Ed loves to play on tragedy.

    “a human interest story”

These are everywhere now and embody the dumbing down that has occurred over the last 40+ years.

I think there’s a balance Gladiateur. The focus on these stories is often too heavy nowadays (definitely by ITV!), but something like the Bob Champion human interest story of 40 years ago gave the race great publicity and seemed to resonate with a lot of people.

Agree it is becoming ott but anything that gets folk watching is a good thing. You can find a human interest story in every horse if you wanted but itv don’t seem to want to look at the actual racing ones.

It’s getting to the point where every single winner has to have a story, preferably a link to some adversity, tragedy or similar. Tiring.

    Anyway….the jumps team –

You keep 4, you cut 4, you bring in 4 – who stays, who goes and who comes in.

If Ian Davies was still allowed to post here, no doubt the words “mute button” would have appeared!

For someone who had the mute button on, he didn’t miss much of what was said.

Ed Chamberlin just seems to get worse. He’s constantly going on about horses drifting and how worried he’d be if he’d backed them (eg Notable Speech & Rosallion) It makes no difference in the sort of races ITV show whether a horse contracts or drifts unless there is an obvious good reason that we can all see.

Some drifters will win, some will lose, the same as applies to horses whose price contracts. Personally unless I’d taken an early price I would prefer a horse to drift in the market as you get more back if it wins.

Yesterday he stated than Oisin Murphy should be congratulated as he was the only jockey to speak to the person holding the pennant behind him lol
How would he know that? He just comes out with so much drivel.

How anyone would prefer him to present a horse racing programme rather than Nick Luck remains a mystery. The yanks know better.

I did have to cringe when hearing Chamberlin say that about Oisin.

Then you got comments (I think it was from Francesca) about a horse Royal Dress who’d never run over a mile, before winning at Goodwood in a slowly run race because “its stamina kicked in”.

Matt Chapman divides the crowd but anyone with a more positive opinion of him might like to know he was a guest on the Barstewards Enquiry podcast yesterday.

He severely criticised the rides Paul Townend gave to Galopin Des Champs and Gaelic Warrior. When the hosts asked him why he does not make such comments on ITV or SSR, he claimed there is insufficient time.

Even the much-maligned Rishi Persad is totally different on Racing TV than he is on ITV. It appears that each presenter has their role to play on ITV and that doesn’t necessarily show them in their best light.

I think we have to accept that broadcasting on a terrestrial channel with a large audience and advertisers to think about (i.e. ITV) presents a different proposition to a specialist channel. And then again appearing on the Barsteward’s is another different proposition again. It allowed Chapman to ‘have his head’ and talk more freely.

Rishi Persad was on with the Barstewards two weeks ago. He was very good, particularly on affordability checks.
