Pity they managed to show the injured horse reeling around in a replay (where there’s really no excuse) today.
May 18, 2023 at 05:13 #1648195“A good card at York featuring strong Group races and competitive handicaps. But ITV think it is only good enough for ITV4
ITV’s main channel is showing “Dickinson’s Real Deal” and something called “Tenable” where “a family of five from Burnley attempt to answer a series of Top 10 list questions for their chance to win a big cash prize”.
Nice to know where racing stands in the pecking order.”Not forgetting CAS that both DRD & Tenable are repeats. Weren’t they dreadful enough first time round? Wouldn’t be surprised if they have both been repeated more than once as well.
May 18, 2023 at 05:45 #1648196This is why racing cannot assume it will always have coverage on terrestrial television.
ITV clearly thought it could get a larger audience for its advertisers by showing two repeated programmes instead of an afternoon of quality horse racing. How long before it decides it does not need to show racing on its main channel or on any channel at all, saying those people who do want to watch racing are adequately catered for via other platforms?
May 18, 2023 at 06:12 #1648198It just shows how ITV’s view of racing – and maybe how it is viewed by their wider audience – has changed second time round.
I remember ITV popping over to Redcar for three races midweek once in the late 1970s.
But in 2023 it’s no longer viewed as the sport the salt of the earth working classes love to watch and have a fun bet on, it’s associated with gambling addiction, hence harm, and animal welfare concerns.
Don’t bank on the existing contracts getting renewed, no matter what the peak viewing figures are for things like the the Cheltenham Festival, the Grand National and Royal Ascot.
I’d add The Derby, but that’s just the pre-match build-up entertainment this year.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"May 30, 2023 at 14:31 #1649611Good to hear Eddie Fremantle on RTV’s coverage from Leicester this afternoon. It is a pity he only ever gets to do these small meetings. Last Thursday it was Megan Nicholls wittering away at Sandown’s Brigadier Gerard meeting, when Eddie only lives just down the road.
May 30, 2023 at 14:50 #1649613As no doubt oft-stated, I don’t watch RacingTV – or any racing channel – but I was at the Epsom April meeting last year and noticed it was Lydia Hislop and Eddie Fremantle on duty, whereas this year I observed it seemed to be Megan Nicholls and Tom Stanley.
No offence to the latter pair, but I’d imagine for RacingUK viewers it was like tuning in expecting to watch Garry Kasparov v Vladimir Kramnik playing chess and find it was Ant & Dec having a game of draughts instead.

May 30, 2023 at 15:24 #1649616Maybe Chezza imagined wrong, then, Gladders – it’s been known!

It’s already happened Ian, they recently renewed for a further 3 years till the end of 2026.
ITV used to show racing from Ripon on Derby Day which featured the Ladies Derby.
May 30, 2023 at 16:19 #1649626Bizarrely enough – because I take scant notice of such things – I did actually know there had been a relatively-recent renewal, Yeats.
But, even aware of that, I stand by what I say.
Woke public opinion moves fast, three years really isn’t so long in the greater scheme of the things, and I wouldn’t absolutely bank on racing being on ITV after 2026.
High viewer ratings and advertising revenue trumps political correctness, of course, but it could be a close call.

June 20, 2023 at 13:51 #1652202I’m already sick of Dettori. Going to be a long week….
June 20, 2023 at 13:54 #1652203Agreed… I’ll be doing the washing up and other household duties between races

June 20, 2023 at 14:07 #1652205Is Royal Ascot on ITV Racing?
Err, good luck with THAT – it’s going to be a LONG five days for you.
Must dash, need to find the remote, polish the mute button, then logon to Betfair Exchange to watch the first….

June 20, 2023 at 16:49 #1652292Dettori’s lack of winners is currently keeping them at bay.
The more I know the less I understand.
