I would be all over Apt Approach over fences….supposedly he is up with Sports Line in Willie’s estimation for a first time jumper

See the entries for this. I am guessing that Willie will be aiming horse’s of calibre at this race
November 24, 2009 at 19:13 #260343Tom might spoil the party!!
November 24, 2009 at 19:14 #260344I really like this Fionnegas….come be another star. 4 run 4 wins in top class bumper’s. Come be anything as they say
November 24, 2009 at 19:19 #260346He’s the one out of all his novices that I like too. I think he’ll be the main hope in the novice hurdlers going to Cheltenham. I’m presuming he’ll be a Ballymore (or whatever they’re calling now Mulryan has hit hard times) horse.
Any word on Lios A Choill?
November 24, 2009 at 19:25 #260350Sean Mulryan(
)…has no worries about money.Em tbh i don’t think i heard about this horse in a long time. I assume he will be Bumpering this season. Did you hear about that Tom Taaffe horse Soverign. One to look our for bought for a huge sum by Gigginstown
November 24, 2009 at 19:30 #260351Thousand Stars
Keep a luck out for that at Fairyhouse
November 24, 2009 at 19:40 #260356Mulryan could still buy and sell me but he’s been scaling down on the racing both in terms of sponsorship and horses. Must be tough forking out Mick O’Dwyer’s salary to manage the Wicklow footballers!
Heard about that Sovereign alright – half brother to War General who looked good before he met his sad end at Cheltenham. I heard similar things about Table Talk last year and I remember hearing plenty of people saying that they thought Merdeka could be as good as Kicking King a few years ago! In fairness to Taaffe though he told everyone in the Glenroyal last March that Ninetieth Minute was the best handicapped horse he had ever sent to Cheltenham. Half of north-Kildare was on for the Coral Cup
November 24, 2009 at 19:42 #260357Lol….Tom Taafe has a bare enough yard tbh baring a few horses. Hopefully he can get a few winners and good un’s. The Bumper at Fairyhouse could be sum thing else. The 2 old Warrior’s Magnier and EOG reliving the good times with that horse thats entered up there. Cost 300k or sumfing
November 25, 2009 at 11:23 #260414Naas off – feckin rain
November 25, 2009 at 14:01 #260431Slippers rides War of Attrition in the Hennesey.
Could be start of the end of Russell with Gigginstown.
November 25, 2009 at 18:12 #260458I doubt Mike O’Leary would be too pished off with him going to ride Solwhit.
November 25, 2009 at 18:31 #260463Damn!!!!!!! hahahah
November 25, 2009 at 18:35 #260464A couple of horses I was looking foward to following this season but are not anywhere to be seen are ALEXANDER SEVERUS and FOLLOWTHEPLAN thought both of these didnt have things go their way at cheltenham but still had a lot of promise for this season. Neither has had an entry since chelters and no entries at the minute.
When looking for a horse in the Albert Bartlett last year, I wasnt really that impressed with the british horses so went through almost every irish horse in the betting, and came up with Caim Hill and Weapons Amnesty. Weapons Amnesty everyone knows about by now, but CAIM HILL looked a really good horse on the up. I liked the way he stuck to his tasks in his races and the sheer size of him, he looked like he could hurdle chase fences this season. He’s out in the Drinmore and hoping he can do something but think he’ll be one to follow over further.
The LAST DRAW I’ve already mentioned, that horse WILL win graded races by the end of the season, and hopefully a grade 1 too, watch this space.
Captain Cee Bee obviously deserves a mention, very excited about seeing him out again.
MOURAD also intersts me as he has an entry in saturdays long distance hurdle and it will be intersting to see if Mullins steps him up in trip.
DANCING TORNADO is another who I think has better things to come, he is another like Tranquil Sea who was given no chance at chelters with a terrible ride, but I feel there is more to come and neither we, nor the handicapper has seen the best of him yet…
Won In The Dark is one who I have always had a soft spot for and will keep backing him when the ground is gd-sft or better and there looks to be some sort pace in the race.
RITE OF PASSAGE intersts me if he is to go 2mile hurdling, and it will be interesting to see how well he fairs there.
Think there are some nice ones in ireland that i’ll be keeping an eye on this season.
November 25, 2009 at 18:39 #260466Rite of Passage is exciting No doubt about that.
November 25, 2009 at 18:42 #260469On another point.
Are Irish Horses at such a disadvantage due to the consistent ground of Heavy during the winter. I can’t help feel that we don’t see the best of a bunch of horses due to the deep ground and as a result are unable to be "Festival Horses".
There is no chance of a Irish NH horse geting anything better than soft which compared to England is barely raceble
November 25, 2009 at 18:53 #260470Ground at Leopardstown was quite decent last Christmas wasn’t it?
I think many UK (and some Irish) punters dismiss certain Irish horses when it comes to Cheltenham as they have only raced in heavy ground. This could give the impression that they require cut to be at their best but plenty of them will actually improve on a quicker surface. Better prices to be availed of I suppose, couldn’t believe some of the prices that were quoted about Cooldine only a few weeks before the last festival for instance.
I’ve a feeling they’ll campaign Rite Of Passage over 2m4 over hurdles. Given the way he stayed in deep ground in the November Handicap, he should get that trip. DK will probably be keen to avoid Dunguib – apparently he told Philip Fenton after Punchestown last year that he thought Dunguib could be a Melbourne Cup horse!
