I meant in relation to how much presenting percy will have improved since, which to me the ease with which he travelled and won the galmoy hurdle suggests he has

There’s every chance PP won’t actually have improved at all? He’s basically missed a full season. The Galmoy to me showed he was a marginally better horse last year, but with a problem in the GC, i wouldn’t bank on him improving as much as ABP has.

Very promising comeback it has to be said

Guys we,ll all see come March , I’d say a horse that can win 2 Denmans had a fair bit of pace , I just don’t see percy traveling as well as lostintranslation , the biggest positive Percy has is the fellow on his back , I’m sure his next run will tell us more

PS I’d rather have a bet on Percy than Kemboy …Kemboy at GC pace just won’t be able not to make a mistake ……lol I’ll go and win by 10 lengths now

I disagree with that. Kemboy is a very keen horse for a 3 miler. You could see David was trying to settle him and get him some cover coming up to the first fence in the Gold Cup and the horse was having none of it and was puling like mad. It was the fact he was pulling that caused the mistake at the first. Kemboy likes a strong pace and the quicker they go the better for him.

Kemboy has improved into a proper 170+ chaser, no doubt about that. The only thing that could hamper him is the trip and if he will stay the last 2 and a half furlongs and you dont know that until you try. Also, he hasn’t been great at Cheltenham in the past but he has improved a lot since the Ballymore and JLT runs. Hopefully we find out this year.

Pace + Native River don’t really come together i don’t think.

Very satisfactory return by Al Boum Photo. He has got to be favourite now with so many questions about everything else.

Al boum does it again at Tramore. In last year’s gold cup thread I warned that the form of the 2019 Tramore race would be underestimated, not only did the handicapper underestimate it, but so did the betting markets and Ruby Walsh.

Last year he beat the 156 rated Total Recall by 6 lengths and carried 10 pounds more. But the handicapper only put him up to 164, when 170-172 was more accurate. He then improved to 175 in the Gold Cup.

This year he has beaten the 152 rated Acapella Bourgeois by 6 lengths easily, and carried 11 pounds more. Another similar performance, perhaps 168-170.

Best piece of Gold Cup contender form we have seen so far this season.

The Gold cup is wide open , I’ve played native river e.w again purely from a value point of view but it’s feeling very like the 2014 race

He was impressive but i wouldn’t be confident AB is a consistent 152 horse, Shattered Love ran nowhere today and VDR terrible. If i was rating the comeback run i’d go a little lower but he’ll improve for it + is probably the one to beat at this stage.

20-1 EW Native River still sounds good; sure to turn up + give his running, acts on the track, and if the going is soft, odds will tumble. Al Boum Photo a worthy fav at the moment

Thanks for that update Botchy, now just need a few of the others to follow suit. The Betfred markets are a bit sparse, but it’s a start.

Two early selections in this for me.

    Bristol De Mai 50-1 ew
    Native River 20-1

I think that bar Al Boum Photo, there are enough negatives for most of them, and I think these are standout prices.

He ground it out but I can’t help but think at the bottom corner he,ll get tapped for speed n the GC , that mistake cost BDM

I don’t know what to make of that. They pulled a long way clear but I was not impressed with Santini’s jumping. He was awkward at times and he almost walked through the second last. He has clearly got an engine but I think he will have to jump better if he is going to win a GC.
