Hi folks, I’ve created this topic, as it often happens that your horses come over to Germany and sometimes they are hard to evaluate for me. On Monday this is the case, and I would ask you for your help:
In Cologne there will be a listed race for 3yo fillies over 1600m (nearly 8f) and the favourite is an English horse called Delectation (by Delegator who died last year) who is now trained here by German champion Andreas Wöhler.
At 2 she won the Firth of Clyde Stakes at Ayr, a Group 3 over 6f and my question would be, if anybody knows her and could assess her skills over 8f?April 13, 2017 at 10:43 #1296626Quote lifted from her former trainer Bryan Smart, who clearly thought 8f would not be a problem:
Delectation was sold after Thirsk with the idea of going to Australia but now I’m hoping they will leave her with me so I can train her for the 1,000 Guineas! I think she’s special and I think she will stay
Don’t know what happened to Australia!

April 13, 2017 at 13:26 #1296635Thank you very much Betlarge, this quote sure helps me out!
She was sold to new owners called Australian Bloodstock, there are also Germans involved, and now they stationed her here.April 18, 2017 at 09:38 #1297255Delectation won pretty easily at a decent price of 12/5!
Racing Post assess that run at 104 which is really only Group 3 territory, but clearly stays 8f and improving so I’m a bit surprised they haven’t entered her in either the UK or French 1000 Guineas.

Yes, that was an impressive win and she also benefitted from a top ride by Eddie Pedroza!
Maybe they are modest and will be content with winning the German 1000 Guineas, as there is no opposition in sight for her if she just repeats this form..May 10, 2017 at 12:40 #1300242Hughie Morrison’s Nearly Caught is running in Berlin in the Group 2 Oleander-Rennen on Sunday.
I think he will have a very good chance with Adam Kirby up.May 13, 2017 at 10:06 #1300633Just noticed that Delectation is running in the ‘Pouliches’ today, French 1000 Gns at Deauville.
Currently 4th favourite at 10/1
EW shot ?
haven’t really looked at the race but O’Brien runs a few and Haggas has a couple.
Of the home team I like Via Ravenna currently 11/2 ………..looks a fair bet !
August 6, 2017 at 08:00 #1313059Hi people,
I would have a question to you:
Today there are the German Oaks at Düsseldorf, it is a classic group one for 3y old fillies over 2200 meters. The ground is announced as good to soft.
Here are 15 German filies taken on by Wuheida, and the difficulty is, that she has only run over 7f and 8f so far.
So I have absolutely no idea, if she could stay nearly 11f,
could anybody of you please assess her chances?
Thank you in advance !August 6, 2017 at 08:35 #1313065I don’t know anything about the German horses Hein but Wuheida is clearly a good horse winning the group 1 Boussac on only her 2nd start and kicking this campaign off going down narrowly against a very good one in Roly Poly who if it wasn’t for Winter could be a 4 time group 1 winner herself and that after suffering a setback in April ruling her out of the 1000 guineas.
Wuheida was pulled from the Nassau so I don’t think they will want if too soft for her but She will certainly be a 10f and 12f horse in time, the trainer has said stepping up in trip will suit so it has been the plan. The sire produces plenty of high quality horses that stay 10f and beyond to name a few recent ones Postponed, Dartmouth, Al Kazeem and Time Test.
The Dam Hibaayeb won the fillies mile as a two year so stamina should not be a problem.Blackbeard to conquer the World
August 6, 2017 at 08:38 #1313066There may be a slight doubt about her stamina but providing the ground isn’t too tiring her class should get her home.
August 6, 2017 at 11:08 #1313086Thank you for your answers, I’m heading to Düsseldorf now..

This horse has a lot of potentialBlackbeard to conquer the World
August 6, 2017 at 18:07 #1313130Sorry Nathan, I had left before reading your post, so I missed taking photos..
Wuheida’s stamina didn’t suffice indeed, and she ended as third.
I played the winner, but only on place, that was my only idea for this race.
My friend Jim Crowley was also involved, beforehand I thought, this is a nice booking,
but his horse would be a hopeless outsider, but he showed his jockeyship and became second .August 6, 2017 at 23:51 #1313151It was a funny start to the race, Buick got Wuheida out quick but nothing went with her and the jockey was looking around for something to take up the running for him to get the horse some cover, I reckon he went deliberately wide around the first bend to give away a bit of ground so something could lead.
Well done on your selection Hein, you are in the groove a bit like how Lothar Matthäus was in Italia 90…….Blackbeard to conquer the World
August 7, 2017 at 16:43 #1313194What was the going like Hein…..?
It looks like Appleby is giving up on the idea of staying after just one try at it….http://www.attheraces.com/news/2017/August/07/charlie-appleby-has-matron-in-mind-for-wuheida
Blackbeard to conquer the World
August 7, 2017 at 23:46 #1313235Yes Nathan, I found that odd too.
But apart from tactics I would say stamina was the decisive factor, and the winner Lacazar had plenty of it and Andrasch Starke on board (he’s the winning jockey of Danedream’s great successes).
Jim Crowley really showed a gala performance on Megera, and I would say he’s a champion not only by his number of wins, but also a very qualitative one!
My real star of the day was a horse called Walsingham, he did a very good performance in a listed race, and I see him as my Leger horse in my hometown Dortmund with his wonderful mix of speed and stamina.
Thanks, my form is really on the up, today I put 50€ on Holmeswood in the last race at Ripon, and what a wonder, he won too:-). I just didn’t post him, as most of you don’t like playing low grade horses, but there are also some gems to find.
Lothar is a big compliment, at least physically when he was in his prime..
The going was described as soft, but that was at 8 am. They didn’t change it afterwards, but it stayed dry and sunny and so I would say it turned to a mixture of soft and good.
I am sure Wuheida wouldn’t have won on any ground, German stamina power was too much for her ..August 8, 2017 at 14:39 #1313273German stamina power was too much for her
Maybe I shouldn’t have written it like that, I was still quite enthused by the outcome of the race ..
