Good few in here of interest.
Prince Zaltar should win some races for the yard, and Chasingoutheblues looks as if he’s still got improvement in him.
Aworkinprogress always gets a good word from me, for all I’ve never bet him, and the 5lbs for his win last time looks fair. Val Dancer behind him last time, and he’ll always be on my shortlist for races like this, but if anything, he probably had a harder race than the winner
Aworkinprogress looks a decent fav, but equally, second fav Jubilee Express is fairly hard to crab for something like this
As well as Aworkinprogress, JP has Fortunate Man and Wal Bucks in there. Stable form a worry for Bucks, and I found Fortunate Man a bit disappointing at Sandown
The one I’m likely to bet (soon) is Dom of Mary. A regular of mine, but I stupidly missed his win a couple of months back. Seriously considered him for Welsh National, but swerved him on the end, as I thought a race like that just beyond him. This looks more suitable
Edit 9th Feb
Waited too long, snd the 25’s gone. Got small amount at 22’s
Dom of Mary 22’s
February 12, 2026 at 15:18 #1754369Backed De Legislator at 25s , yard isn’t going great but there’s a good hcap in this lad and I’m happy to take a punt at this price
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 16, 2026 at 07:09 #1754928Tanganyika 22-1 ew 4 places as a first pick. Venetia’s horses have perked up recently so am hoping this one does the same as i think he looks nicely handicapped on his Midlands National run.
February 16, 2026 at 10:57 #1754946Weather outlook.
Current ground: soft (heavy in places)
Monday (dry maybe a 0.5mm afternoon shower), Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday is dry.
Friday & Saturday approx 4mm rain totalSome of them horses in the race the more testing the ground the better so we will see how it plays out, it doesn’t look like it will be too terrible if the forecast stays as it is.
February 16, 2026 at 11:31 #1754949I’m taking the Lucinda Russell duo, De Legislator at 50-1 + Whistle Stop Tour if he’s still in the field this afternoon. I was happy to risk one but not both just now
February 16, 2026 at 18:51 #1754982Guard The Moon 12/1 win only
February 17, 2026 at 09:05 #1755015Make-up of the race changes if Mr Vango and Intense Raffles stay in.
Must say, Livin on Luco makes huge appeal weighted at 10-02, but if the top two come out then I’d have to look to see if the weights changed. That could bring Breeze of Wind and last year’s winner Knockanore into it.
Ahh, a proper marathon with no Mullins horses either.
February 17, 2026 at 21:38 #1755082Breeze of wind.
He’s gonna run out the handicap because Mr Vango is going to get his ideal conditions but I think Breeze of wind is progressive, will like the ground himself and very much a stayer going places.
Bloody love these type of races.
February 18, 2026 at 09:53 #1755106Anglers crag. Previous winner and ran really well last time out. Could actually do with it being more testing but i think it’ll still be a slog.
On a side note, prize money is shocking. 41’000 to winner. Less now than 5 year ago. Newcastle is really the poor relation when it comes to ‘grade 1’ jumps. Only gets two meetings a year of note and apart from the ff and rehersal chase this is the best they can offer.
February 18, 2026 at 12:04 #1755117Livin On Luco for me just now at 8-1, and Red Delta will be the bigger bet of the pair, but I’ll wait until he’s actually confirmed
February 18, 2026 at 19:46 #1755150Watched some videos back earlier. Including Knockanores win in the race last year. He absolutely scooted in and could have been named the winner very early on. 10’s will do for me. He’s another to run out the handicap but I’m really not that arsed about things like that in these kind of races.
February 19, 2026 at 11:23 #1755178Mr Vango scared a nearly half the early entries off including Breeze of wind (unsurprisingly really given how far out the weights he was going to be) but also the likes of Jubilee express and aworkinprogress.
They seem to have really come for this Anglers Crag. I usually love the angle of previously won the race in preceding years hence backing knockanore but Anglers Crag has run like a camel for 2 years now bar his win LTO in a weak race at Carlisle.
I’m happy with my knockanore bet @10’s.
Nice work those who nabbed 25’s for Dom of Mary.
Should also be pointed out, 6/1 the field after decs in a ten runner race is glorious!
February 19, 2026 at 14:35 #1755194Val Dancer around 12’s at the moment, and he’ll be second selection here. Haven’t actually bet him yet. Be watching the market
Fortunate Man the frustrating one. Not concerned at all with Sandown, and I’d say he’s a decent price right now. Very interesting for Uttoxeter if it doesn’t go his way Saturday
Dom of Mary 22’s
Val DancerFebruary 19, 2026 at 14:59 #1755197Damn. Non-runner.
Will think again.February 20, 2026 at 19:20 #1755357Red Delta 14/1 win only
February 21, 2026 at 09:24 #1755542Livin On Luco ew 4 places
February 21, 2026 at 09:41 #1755552That’s more like it Mike. I was beginning to think someone had hacked your account when you put something up above 4/1! Glad to know you’re safe and well mate

What happens to the weights in the race if Vango is pulled now? Everyone still runs off their declared weight and out the handicap or are they adjusted to reflect Vango didn’t run?
