Was scratched yesterday Griff .
Led out today , just headed then took crashing fall second last . Didnt look good , commenrator said he was up , will check stipes later as that was a nasty one . Hopefully Maher sends him to retirement paddock if he walks away from that , hes been looked after but at 10 not much improvement in the old boy .
Noonday Gun goes in novice hurdle tomorrow , ex Hannon , Dubawi out of Sky Lantern , some blue blood there .April 30, 2025 at 06:12 #1728741“Noonday Gun goes in novice hurdle tomorrow”
I looked him up- last run in Europe finished a neck behind Rubaud in a listed race in France. Rubaud won the Pendil this season.
April 30, 2025 at 07:48 #1728746Nelson and the horse he brought down both walked away , jockeys not so lucky both in hospital .
Id hope Nelson is done on racetrack and retired .
Normandy Bridge ran in novice yesterday , was third , was in the pack behind St Marks Basilica in French guineas and French Derby 2021 , had a couple wins on flat in OZ .May 16, 2025 at 22:31 #1730561Not in the outback but one ive been waiting to watch , Delius 1.3 Million Guineas from Tatts HIT sale makes OZ debut at Doomben today , red hot Fav under top weight , two trial wins to get in trim .
Ex Fabre trained , Coolmore horse . Now called Sir Delius as there is an ex Godolphin owned 10 yo gelding rattling round outback Queensland called Delius .
I remember decent Dickenson trained jumper called Delius from 80s too .February 4, 2026 at 21:14 #1753526Youthful Sprit , 8th in 2021 Derby and 5th in St leger is in at Walcha on Saturday in the Walcha Cup , has not won since 2021 Chezter Vase and looks up against it over 7 furlongs but has had a break . Looks a nice little country course , race on turf , and Cup day looks a big day out .
February 4, 2026 at 21:41 #1753527It’s odd how many middle distance types from Europe drop to shorter distances Down Under. The last thing I’d have thought that Youth Spirit wanted was a drop to seven furlongs! It’s interesting that (according to the RP, at least) he’s still an entire… at the age of eight.
February 5, 2026 at 00:24 #1753531He was gelded a while back . Horse like Youthful Spirit not many options in wop wops , 2000 a staying race out those places .
Aussie trainers seem to be able to adapt training to put some speed in the legs , Vauban for example . Its not like 1600 and below OZ horses are inferior , sprinters 1000 to 1400 are so so superior, 1600 it evens out , 2000 upwards European breds way better imho. They adapt training methods .
Also training mostly on track the horses step up in distance to increaee fitness in a prep , where in Europe long steady canters , uphill slowly build up fitness . Thats why so many imports come in fresh up and hose home v Aussie trained, not many home trained come straight in at off break in staying race .
Youth Spirit has been hopeless in OZ tho but must show hobby trainer something .February 5, 2026 at 00:25 #1753532Theres another ex GB doing rounds all over Bill Peyto his name , goes everywhere , must love horse box and travel well .
February 5, 2026 at 00:32 #1753534Youthful Spirit has the car park draw in 13 gate .
Bill Peyto goes in race before , the stayers event on the card over 1700 !!! , he drawn better in 8. His 96th run. Legs must be made of steel , impressive effort . Although some of these old horses go well in these places , one i saw ay another Dustbowl Downs meeting in Queensland this weekend 10 and in for 117th run. - AuthorPosts
