After watching the first semi final I backed Netherlands (don’t like slow songs so if I take to one it must be good) and Norway. I mean, what the hell was that. Loved it. Liked Iceland, too but think I’m swayed by having a soft spot for Iceland. I love Eurovision!

Just looked at the betting, how on Earth is UK second favourite? The others must be really bad, we’re usually last

The commentary is the best part for me. Do miss the late great Wogan but Norton does a decent job.

UK is a false price every year.

And every year people are in denial about how political this whole event is and bet with their hearts and music principles, not their heads.

Bet on what history tells us WILL happen, not on what would happen in an utopian world that only exists insude your own head, is my advice, music lovers.

Usually when seeing something a false favourite (like UK 2nd Fav) that means there’s value elsewhere but given the situation in Ukraine. I think Ukraine would probably win. I think it’s harsh if UK don’t get any points but we probably get just that. Not seen eurovision since Terry commentated on it, and he predicted with very good accuracy who would vote for whom. Proving it’s very much political.

You've got to accentuate the positive.
    Eliminate the negative.
    Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.

It’s all a bit of politically charged fun

Much better than the House of Commons to be fair but not something I’d bet on with someone else’s money.

Why does the UK never do very well in Eurovision? It is a mystery…

The late great Terry Wogan knew the political voting patterns like the back of his hand.

As well as being hilarious, he would accurately predict the recriprocal voting arrangements all night long.

Now it’s by national phone votes, not “juries,” it’s possibly a bit less contrived, but the yearly bias is still there for all to see.

Graham Norton isn’t bad by any means, but he had impossible big boots to fill.

It’s like asking A Plus Tard to be Arkle.

Eurovision must be serious business if it gets the volume on your TV into the lofty heights of single digits Ian.

A 👍 analogy Sircherryade – I met Wogan once in the Grosvenor House Hotel and he certainly had that naughty twinkle and sparkle in his eye and probably thought to run like Arkle when he saw my Nick Ferrari type motormouth moving in on him.

If only UK could bring back the ghosts of old and knock em all dead.

The volume usually gets an outing once the voting is under way.

Any Kenneth McKellar style entries this year ? I live in hope. I haven’t given anyhing the time of day since Gigliola Cinquetti was robbed. I would support a 12 hour pardon for Jonathan King to represent us.

I’ve seen King twice in performance; once trawling through the West End, quite near Eros, in his big unmistakable glasses and less recognisable purring gently Bentley.
By driving at 12 mph he appeared to be stating his claim to fame and looking for something or someone to share the experience with. I did a Dionne and walked on by !
His forceps delivery had rendered his smile crooked and I caught good sight of that through the big windscreen.

The second time was after his retribution, and in a small shop in a rather backwater hip area of Notting Hill, and him, the fallen King, looking old and a bit beaten, but dressed defiantly in a pair of garishly bright yellow trainers. It made me think he’s not normal – but somehow gamble found him endearing.

Little did King think, when he penned gone to the moon all those years ago, that the judiciary in appropriate wig and gown, and the upbeat musical press would much later in life send him there, all on his lonesome and far far from 🌎, to sample the very odd cheese he had created.

Savill seems to be enjoying this more than anyone, and doing the hippy hippy shake gangman style, and suitably slow and in rhythm, to the new viral sensation that was the hand on knees, still in grad school, Jonathan watch-me doing-it King …

I actually really liked that Daz Sampson song. Charli XCX did an amazing set at Glastonbury a few years ago with all of her band wearing gym slips.

Ah yes, a memorable display of Polish culture there BigG.

The political angle of Eurovision is overstated. It clearly exists, but rarely leads to an undeserving winner.

I think the UK will do considerably better than it has for some time. Russia is now the pariah of Europe rather than the UK, plus this year’s song and singer are better than most of the UK’s recent offerings.

Ukraine have shortened to 1.41, around 2/5, at Betfair Exchange and if they don’t win tonight for me it will be the shock of the century.
