Guys
I have watched a lot of racing in my days and I just hate races run like that.
Most enthusiasts want to see a few horses in with chances on the run from the bend.
This Derby was over way out. Any good horse man knew they were gone.We all love a bit of action and we saw none in the Derby.
I had no bet in it so was delighted with that.
The sooner that race is forgotten the better.
Dont get me wrong I am a very positive man but that race was a farce.

July 5, 2020 at 21:14 #1492986Yeah it was as rubbish a derby as we’ll likely to see but I thought that was fitting for this year really!
It maybe jumping the gun Jack but the horses form going into it was rubbish as well, in comparison, it’s more likely than not I think that they’re all just bang average horses, although some will be better over a mile, obviously Kameko isn’t bang average and very interested to see if Vatican City goes to Goodwood.
Even though Serpentine stole it they still should’ve been able to close better than that if they were any good surely? I’ll have a read of that article as well

July 5, 2020 at 21:39 #1492992He won the race with his mid-race pace. It left the closing pack flat footed and they couldn’t get near.
It might end up a rubbish renewal and obviously going forward you are going to use that as an angle for your bets, but to me, i think the pack are not as bad as the result suggests (nowhere near) and i think English King will turn out the best horse. I wouldn’t have touched him due to his price on Saturday.
The horses form was crap yes, but then, they had 1 month to run before the Derby in comparison to others years.
Agree on Kameko and VC. I’ve said it for a while now, but i’d be surprised if Mogul ever lives up to his “rep” but again, it’s early days with him too.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!July 5, 2020 at 22:01 #1492995Really struggling with this argument. The jink greatly reduced Dettori’s (already scarce) options from the start giving away more ground. The RPR argument is poor due to the exceptional circumstances of the season – an assessment on the race should be treated with much more weight when more evidence comes to light.
July 5, 2020 at 22:25 #1493000Greatly reduced? He jinked slightly to the left, I don’t think it made any difference at all actually. Stall 1 did.
The exceptional circumstance of the season has nothing to do with what RPRs they’re running to, most of them would have been ticking over in training until the official go ahead.
I won’t use it as an angle to say they’re all crap Jack, I just mean in the context of a derby they were all crap. I will probably draw a line through the derby form when they run again.
EK could be very good. I doubt he’s special though.
I’ve obviously backed Mogul and not sure I’m ready to give up even now as he was still a little heavy yesterday but I think there is even a question mark about the whole family’s quality now. Japan’s best win was a highly questionable Juddmonte last year. Is he even that good? Mogul has it all to prove for sure
July 5, 2020 at 22:45 #1493004Tinman, serpentine had to do his own donkey work, that WILL account for some lengths, if he was held up like love and it didnt effect his running style hed show that burst he did round the bend, at the end. But i suspect theres a hell of alot more to come from him after only his 4th run
That was not a poor derby/oaks, love & serpentine are above average.
Horses in behind will won group 1s, particularly kameko, wouldnt write off EK, im less enthused about mogul and RE, vatican city has to run at 10 or 8 for me to make my mind up
Best horse won the race, was definitely no fluke.

soon led and went on, reduced lead and pushed along over 2f out, soon went on again and stayed on well, easilyJuly 5, 2020 at 22:55 #1493006I thought Kameko ran quite well in the circumstances. He took a keen hold early. I thought he would drop away but he plugged on well enough.
Coolmore are clearly keen to talk up Mogul. He deserves another chance but based on what he has shown so far there has to be the possibility he is an expensive dud.
July 6, 2020 at 12:53 #1493051Ham I did acknowledge his running style and the way he did it would account for some of the lengths but we cannot be sure that if he’d not injected the pace when he did he’d have been capable of utilising it to the same effect in the latter stages of his race. He got the lengths accelerating at a stage where nobody else was and he had an uncontested lead, he was wilting at the finish as it was that is factual so he clearly overdid it and if he’d been taken on more for that lead he would have overdone it even more battling with the other leader much the same way Passion and Tiempo Vuela did in the Oaks as they had each other for company. I’m not jumping to conclusions about the race, him or any of his rivals because ultimately I doubt we’ll see another Group race run like that to that extreme again this season, time will tell on all counts.
July 6, 2020 at 13:19 #1493055Dettori said afterwards that the way the race was run, and the less than an ideal start his horse got coming out of the stalls, may have cost him a place and that in the circumstances he ran a good race. Sounds about right to me.
July 6, 2020 at 14:11 #1493058The pack had the whole of the straight to get past the second and third and failed to do so. I’m afraid that’s the reality of it. On the day the pack were badly ridden and then couldn’t go pack a maiden in third. God knows how they will finish if they meet again but Kameko and vc will be dropped in trip and I suspect mogul will too. The winner could well turn out to be very good. I think he just might.
July 6, 2020 at 15:06 #1493060Gonna be interesting to see how good the winner is

July 6, 2020 at 20:58 #1493089Have to admit, I find Serpentine quite a fascinating horse. There seems to be a streak of Frankel about his free-wheeling style of front-running. I’ve watched this Derby many times now and I’m kinda wondering that no matter how the race was run by the others, perhaps they were damned from the start … if they went faster trying to keeps tabs on him, would they have paid the price later in the race? Quite possibly me thinks.
I do agree with Ham’s post.
