So another one bites the dust without any worthwhile changes being made. They are like little children in a playground, ” it’s my money and you can’t have it “. Well, do the Data Rights for declarations actually belong to the racecourses? Do they collect the initial race entry data -NO. Do they collect the five day entries data – NO. Do they collect the final declarations data – NO. Weatherby’s do all of that work so how come the racecourses claim ownership of Data that they do not collect ? Racecourses are a venue, licensed and regulated by the BHA and should push come to shove licenses can be revoked. It is rumoured that ARC may wish to distance themselves from the BHA and align themselves with World Pool betting. If they wish to become flapping tracks with no BHA officials, no owners ,trainers or jockey’s allowed to participate then they should feel free to go their separate way. The fixture list needs to be reduced and Racing must become more competitive. The BHA should stick to Regulation and Licensing and Racecourses should put on the best possible show to attract the public. Just stick to what you both do best.
March 3, 2026 at 14:25 #1757013I hope someone like Leo Quinn can throw his hat in the ring for this job. He’s an owner. I did some work as a supplier to one of the companies he turned around from a failing major business into profitable performer.
He loves racing and has experience in turning around complex organisations with multiple waring factions and differences.
March 4, 2026 at 23:16 #1757201It has proven itself one of those catch22 jobs, anyone appling for it would be unsuitable by the very act of applying.
Intellectual copyright laws can be complicated, but I wonder what would happen if each owner trademarked the name of his horse(s) and made a charge for use?
March 4, 2026 at 23:48 #1757207It won’t matter who takes up the job as regardless of how much they speak about coming together for the betterment of the sport, when it comes down to putting their collective monies where their mouths are, none of these groups want to give up any of the power they hold.
They don’t seem to understand that in order to move things forward, there will need to be painful sacrifices made but if any one of the groups refuse to budge, then what reason do any of the others have to make their own concessions to get things rolling.
Its a vicious circle which will continue to go nowhere until one group bites the bullet and agrees to a concession. I wouldn’t be holding my breath that the status quo will change anytime soon and all that means is that the one loser in all of this sadly will be……….racing.
March 6, 2026 at 10:17 #1757273Sadly your right LD73- it needs a dictator / person who can drive change and force people to make uncomfortable choices.
It feels like that change will only come when its collapsed in a heap and there’s no choice but to change.
