I don’t think anyone is so blinkered that they’d think there’s no corruption in racing, but if it’s "gone to the dogs" surely legitimate owners/trainers/punters would have washed their hands of it long ago.

So why pick on AW only. What about the shite run on the turf and over the jumps :?:

I make no distinction. Horses do not run on merit in all but the top grades and I sometimes have my doubts about the highest echelons.

I can understand people’s reticence when it comes to betting on the AW. However, surely nobody would pass up the opportunity to enjoy the AW Championships by, say, entering a risk free competition. In particular, a competition with a prize as handsome as Gary Wiltshire’s book "Winning It Back".

As a matter of fact, there just so happens to be exactly this kind of competition on this very forum!

Why not give it a go and who knows? Maybe the prize will make you think twice about ‘not betting on the AW not now not ever’.

If you want to get away from the AW racing Ricky, why not join me at the Lambourn Open Day?

Ertijaal was only half fit the last time, used up a lot of speed early on from a wide draw, pulled when Hanaghan tried to slow him down once in a good position and still won, only just. Will hack up on Friday.
Sorry Ricky if the price is right I’m having a tenner on.

Easy game this all weather trash…………. :P

The irony about this thread is that I’d be doing the complete opposite and not touching racing on the turf for the time being.

Ricky does make some slightly valid points about the AW, but he is far too narrow minded and maybe should have the blinkers removed next time :)

Yes there have been some instances this season that have made me slightly skeptical about the AW such as the Barney Curley coup and Stephen Arnold attempting the same but miserably failing or did he? I wouldn’t be surprised if he had someone laying his horses.

If you take the time to educate yourself you may find it profitable you may not. I’d definitely say its easier to come to grips with 4 AW tracks than all of the turf tracks and there different intricacies.

Have you thought about analysing your bets on the AW? To see if there is a particular trend with the result? Sometimes the unexplainable happens, just because a horse would appear to be the best in the race it doesn’t mean it will repeat that today.

Well what a thoroughly good day of racing that was today, long may it continue. Looks to have been a success.

First winter I haven’t been jumping and have stuck solely to the AW. I have always profited on the AW and this season has been no different on that regard. In fact, it has been more enjoyable having sidelined the jumps.

With the introduction of the AW championship, sectional times around Lingfield the progress can only be applauded.

There are plenty of races that present betting opportunities over Autumn to Spring and those that don’t, no different to any other code.

Synthetic program is here to stay and it is growing, sure, there can be improvements, but as far as I see it is going in the right direction.

One set of realistic results at Lingfield does not mean a great deal. Congrats to form readers who were on the winners, well done.

There have been plenty of realistic results.

Tbh today I didn’t find it a great betting day but an enjoyable spectacle. Form worked out pretty well but thought a lot of the runners worth pursuing were on the short side.

Viewpoint was my only winner from 3 bets after a nice drift before the off. Had quite a few runners set up to bet but prices were not quite there for me.

Did you know Wolf dear, if you had backed every horse in class 7 this winter that won their previous race you would emerged with a small profit of about 3-4pts.

Measly I know but with 6 of 16 winning at a 37% strike rate that isn’t too bad for consistency right?

Personally I only had one bet in a class 7 this winter, her name was Medam and she dances in the sand. I thought she was an absolute banker until some yak called Foie Gras pipped her a neck at the line.

Medam went on to be rated 62 this winter and won off 50 and 58 and placing well off 61 against Fab Lolly who ran in the mares race today, so at least I was somewhere on the ball park that she was a bit too good for a class 7 handicap.

Maybe I’ll just go back to the hoppers and try and guess who is fit any time before March.

I don’t bet these days but I will often select a few just to laugh at some of the unlikely outcomes on the AW. I wrote down four runners at Lingfield today and three of them won. When I’d picked myself up off the floor I realised that today was the one day when I should have had a bet. It simply reaffirms the view that lower grade racing should be avoided at all costs.

    Horses ..

Its not going away for sure ..indeed its probably going to grow even more if the true rulers of racing get their way ….and they usually do

The only way AW will shrink and go away , is when punters lose faith in it , in my opinion thats only a matter of time

    Happy Easter

    imo

    That’s good to hear Ricky!

I believe the BHA are holding a meeting on sectional timing next week. Ideally sectional timing would be available on all courses but there first port of call would be to have sectionals on all of the AW courses, which would be fantastic.

Don’t let it defeat you, learn from your mistakes and gain a greater understanding of the AW.

That’s the only problem I suppose, but do you expect the average punter to be paying any attention to them?

Do you calculate your own sectionals then?
