Min for me
December 17, 2017 at 19:51 #1332706There’s a shock.
December 17, 2017 at 20:23 #1332719The plot thickens. Altior is still not galloping and Douvan has been ruled out for the season. Opens this race up. I think Altior is definitely a better Hurdler than a chaser. His Ankle victory was rough to watch and he was lucky that the horse making the running fell on the run in. His jumping isn’t fluent enough for a speedy chaser; although his monster gears usually make up for it. Min is a natural chaser and I reckon he could take Altior if the re-match happens.
This makes things a bit clearer for camp Mullins; Ruby will want to ride the 3 best chasers and with Douvan out that becomes a little bit clearer;
Min for the Champion Chase
Un De Sceaux for the RyanAir
Yorkhill for the Gold CupBennie Des Deiux, Djakadam and Bachasson all there for Townend still and Great Field for Barry if he makes it back.
December 18, 2017 at 01:40 #1332761Altior’s winning margin in the Arkle would probably have been similar even if Charbel had stayed upright. Pause the race at a similar point at Sandown and you have exactly the same scenario – Charbel urged along, Altior just about to step up a notch. The same back at Sandown with Special Tiara.
Altior devours these stiff finishes and , on all known form in either discipline, he’s proven himself superior to Min.
I think there are questions about value and fitness but not ability.
December 18, 2017 at 14:14 #1332804I can’t have altior being better over hurdles!
Other than the Arkle where perhaps he wasn’t visually impressive. He destroyed everything over fences. Made Fox Norton look average and special tiara. You can’t base the Arkle on his chase ability from just one race. Every other race he’s looked like a young Sprinter Sacre.
However, I do agree that mom is an absolute monster and I’m convinced those 2 horses will dominate this race and the others are playing for 3rdDecember 18, 2017 at 15:59 #1332814Altior is still not galloping
Have you laid Altior for the QM? Lol.
How do you know that he hasn’t galloped yet? The last update was from NH last week, where he said the horse was walking, which was exactly the program he had set for Altior before the op!
As was mentioned by other posters, Altior’s destroyed everything in all of his chases so far. If anything he may have been overcooked for the Arkle, nevertheless I don’t belief a weak finisher like Charbel would have even finished second, if he had stayed up.
Min has beaten absolutely nothing so far over fences. Let’s see when he climbs above an Irish egg and spoon race, what he can do.
I will say though, that imo Min is a much better and more natural jumper than Douvan.
Over 2m Chases Douvan has been an absolute hype machine. His jumping was average to worse on quite a number of occasions.
December 18, 2017 at 16:51 #1332827Yeah, that was the update I was working off; where he said he was walking. I wouldn’t be absolutely convinced that Min would beat Altior; it’s hard to know but there are definitely question marks over Altior’s fitness
Min has beaten Road to respect by 10 L over fences. he is now a 160 rated Chaser. Min also beat Buveur D’air over Hurdles so that should count for something
December 18, 2017 at 17:31 #1332834I love how Altior might have been possibly overcooked for a race, where he was in the process of being troubled (albeit i still think he would’ve won nicely enough) but Douvan was a complete hype job.
Douvan won every race he ran in before Cheltenham with consummate ease and has picked up an injury. He was one of the superstars of racing today.
I don’t really see what he did to prove himself a hype job.
***I see something has been reported for inappropriate content***
Can’t actually remember what i said, but apologies.

I really don’t think Douvan is a great jumper. He’s made mistakes in most of his races but got away with it.
Personally, I’d love to see Altior front run from when he returns. I believe he has the speed, jumping ability and engine to blow away any opposition over two miles.
On the other hand, if Min front runs in the QM, I could also see him jumping the rest of the field into the ground. Towend riding instead of Ruby, would be another plus for the Mullins horse.

You think Min is a better hurdler ?!
December 18, 2017 at 20:25 #1332865Overcooked for the arkle LOL riggggghhhtttt
December 19, 2017 at 03:58 #1332927And still won by 6 lengths. What a machine!

Townend a plus ahead of Ruby around Cheltenham in March? OK.I hope this reply was made during your Christmas party or something Lol
Townends a great jockey no doubt, but no one touches Ruby at Cheltenham…IMVHO

December 20, 2017 at 09:39 #1333133LOL

Ruby’s been past his sell by date for quite a while now. Maybe your some fanboy that needs to open your eyes and stop drooling though!
Towend, is a great jockey and very dependable and underrated. I’d sooner have him on any horse I back, than Walsh ……these days.
December 20, 2017 at 09:46 #1333135So your username is “Altior” and you are calling people “fanboy”…
I see..
Anyway, like most good disagreements on here they all come out in the wash.
December 20, 2017 at 09:48 #1333137

No Fan boy, but i ask you to watch back his rides last Cheltenham and those previous and tell me he’s past it.
I appreciate good jockeys, both are, one is the best big race rider about which is the difference as after all this is a championship race.
Maybe, just maybe, you are on the wind up….at least i hope.
