He went wrong immediately last year joe, was pretty obvious, you dont win that amount of grade 1s by being a poor jumper i dont care what anyone sais.
You can only rate a horse on what hes done, which is plenty.how many grade 1s has he won again? At what point did you come to the conclusion hes overrated, i fail to see your arguement of why here, how can you say a few months back that BDM deserved his rating, for that one special performance but douvan hasnt for atleast 10 of those.
March 15, 2018 at 11:26 #1346680To be fair ham, number of races a horse wins only shows his consistency – not the rating. ie If a horse puts up the same standard of performance to win 10 in a row its rating will be the same on the tenth as the first.
Joe isn’t saying the horse isn’t top class, just that in his opinion the rating is bigger than it should be.
Value Is EverythingMarch 15, 2018 at 13:17 #1346699Consistency of winning grade 1s is my point, he has to be a good jumper to be THAT consistant,
That ist what joe said, he said the horse has long been overrated, what rating would you give a horse whos consistently won as many grade 1s as he has, beating horses ranging from 140-160 as he liked by a massive combined average distance, what other option is there other than to rate him top class? If you can say that bdm justified his rating he got for his win at the start of the season, how can you then say that douvan does not deserve his rating when hes proven time and time again that it was no “fluke”, confusing…
This is nothing to do with altior or anyone else, altior proved yesterday what he is, im only talking in relevance to douvan here.

…And that’s my point, ham.
Consistency is an atribute, it has absolutely nothing to do with a “rating”.
I often make a consistent racehorse with a lesser rating as having a better chance than an inconsistent one who has a better rating.A “rating” is only the level of form shown.
There is top class and then there’s “top class”.
If we are talking non-novice chases:
Horses can win uncompetitive Grade 1’s with a Timeform rating of mid 160’s. That’s top class form.
However, some Grade 1 horses win by putting up a rating in the 170’s. A few 180’s and – once in a blue Kauto Star – 190’s. Douvan was rated early 180’s in Timeform and (if I am right) Joe is arguing he’s over-rated, ie should be in the 170’s – 170’s is still “top class” and enables him to win loads of Grade 1’s.Value Is Everything - AuthorPosts
