Obama, McCain, Bush, Palin, your boys took a hell of a beating.
going to be an especially bad fortnight for those two!
October 26, 2008 at 04:12 #186513$319 exacta

Why didnt I just go for a couple of quid on the forceast

You boys got 29-1 then for Ravens?
October 26, 2008 at 04:13 #186514Did Johnny Murtagh leave his brain at Dublin airport? Anyone watching this meeting could see that you need to be the last to challenge, preferably on the outside, yet he rides the Turf and the Classic aggressively hitting the front far too soon. Not really pocket talk as the Classic was a good result, but brain dead riding.
Murtagh’s mounts in both races are blatantly not quick enough to challenge late and wide so he was forced to be more aggressive. The fact is that both Soldier of Fortune and Duke of Marmalade were hugely unlikely to adapt to racing in California and were only there due to their previous exploits. Remember that Murtagh has been the most tactically sound rider in Europe this season.
October 26, 2008 at 04:20 #186517I haven’t seen the race but I’m thrilled with result! I’ve followed Raven’s Pass all this season and always thought he was the biz.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

What was the winning distance/margin?
October 26, 2008 at 04:23 #186519Well, I decided to do a Lucky 15 today for a bit of fun:
Buccellati (won at Newbury)
Piedmont (won Great Steeplechase at Baden-Baden)
Muhannak (won first race at Santa Anita)and……..
Casino Drive! DOH!!!!
To be honest, I wouldn’t have touched Ravens Pass. I just couldn’t see him staying 10 furlongs, but I’m delighted that I’ve been proved wrong, and that for the first time ever, a British trained horse as won the Breeders Cup Classic.
After seeing how well the British and Irish horses have generally coped on this surface, it will be interesting to see how many of them will run next year, as the BC will be at Santa Anita again. Seems that Pro-Ride suits the British runners – certainly better than the Monmouth Park quagmire of 12 months ago!!

October 26, 2008 at 04:25 #186521If you look at Coolmoore’s horses at this years Breeders Cup, it is those` who have had hard seasons that run poorly. Henry did run well but he ran to form last time. Soldier is not quick enough, they had to ensure a strong pace, but they went too strong. He is also best with more give, McCrirrick was right, the price was stupid.

Value Is EverythingOctober 26, 2008 at 04:25 #186522most of the winners on the aw seemed to be drawn mid field [was it last year that they were all drawn 1 or 2?]
October 26, 2008 at 04:27 #186523For me the fact that Tiago ran past Curlin who has slammed him is sweet having, see Curlin getting floored by a pair of turf miler makes me howl given the americans love of dirt courses….
Sweet Revenge for Frankie, and for the most beatuful Princess Hya of Jordan, what a year, her horses win the worlds two biggest flat races, the wun in the juvinile turf wasnt bad either.
Her husband has not had a bad meet going one two in the dirt juvinile cotls event with Diobilical coming second in the turf sprint as wella s the filleis filling the second and third spots in the fillies classic, the fact the winner of that race is a street cry makes it even sweeter and the winer of the male classic was an by another darley sire, what a meeting.
October 26, 2008 at 04:28 #186524So now we now that Dirt horses aren’t world champions.

well said, let the yanks send them over to epsom for the derby and we will see how good they are

It could be the start of something beautiful
October 26, 2008 at 04:43 #186528So now we know that dirt horses aren’t world champions.
Nonsensical statement. The results of this meeting just underscore (:D )that synthetic racing and dirt racing are poles apart- on dirt you need to be able to grind out a fast pace and keep going, on synthetics the dynamics are similar to turf and a change of gear is required. Curlin ran with great credit and performed a lot better than any of "ours" would have done on dirt. That’s why 5/2 Raven’s Pass for the Dubai World Cup is the lay of the century (as long as they don’t change the surface!) just as Curlin was tonight. He’s still a champion on his own surface.
I also predict that the result of the Classic will be a major setback for the synthetic cause in the U.S.- they won’t like a Euro one two in their premier race one little bit.
October 26, 2008 at 04:49 #186531Just hearing that the Duke and Henry have actually been immediately retired to stud too….
October 26, 2008 at 04:50 #186532In future lets appreciate what we have. European racing is THE best racing in the world and our horses are often the best. Every year the yanks have "the best horse in the world" whilst we tend to agree and in comparrison talk ours down. Let them come to the UK and challenge us. You will never stop the Americans over-hyping but lets learn a lesson and stop jumping on their bandwagon.
Raven’s Pass was awesome tonight and to think they messed about holding him up early season worrying about him getting a mile.

Brilliant night for British racing tonight, makes you feel proud and makes you appreciate what we have.

John G 2 out of 2 at the Cup. Makes you realise what incredible form he’s in.
Makes you wonder though….would it have been 3 out of 3 if Rainbow View went over?
October 26, 2008 at 05:10 #186537Just hearing that the Duke and Henry have actually been immediately retired to stud too…. :(
Zarkava, New Approach, The Duke and Henry all whisked off to stud.
The 2YOs look a fairly modest bunch and you have to wonder where the superstars are going to come from next season.
Let’s enjoy tonight. We’ve beaten the US in their own backyard for just about the first time with an army of talent that will not be duplicated for quite some time.
Don’t think the US will take this lying down. They’ll be back with a stronger team next year and a point to prove.
Like I said, this is ONE victory. Before we become all arrogant and knock their talent, let’s see if we can beat them in Dubai and again at Santa Anita next year.
Dettori has many detractors, but he bounced back in the style of a champion and he was THE inspiration tonight. Let’s not forget that in a hurry.
He’s a true superstar and a great ambassador for British racing. We’re very lucky to have him.
October 26, 2008 at 05:21 #186539I agree we do tend to talk our horses down.
But Curlin did not run to form. Whether that is because of the pro ride I don’t know. Has not been at his best since Dubai, even when winning.
Whether even at his best he would’ve beaten Raven’s Pass, I doubt.
