All the vibes from Darley suggest NA will have his last race on Saturday and then retired.
October 16, 2008 at 04:35 #184982In a report I did about the Breeders’ Cup a year or two ago – I realised that if a European can come across the pond and win the Breeders’ Cup Classic, the local Americans will slap an ENORMOUS stud pricetag for doing so.
Giant’s Causeway ran second, but he stayed in the USA and the breeders flocked to gain a piece of the Storm Cat colt.
Same goes for Duke, possibly. Family of Lemon Drop Kid and A.P. Indy.
October 16, 2008 at 17:45 #185030It seen to me that Famous Name is going to end his year without another win just like Casual Conquest. What a shame. Both were horses with incredible futures and both lost their way.Casual Conquest followed up being placed in both the Irish and the English derbies with no more races. Was he injured or what?We will never know.Famous Name was touted for the Juddmonte International following a brilliant run in the French Derby but failed to turn up.Now he is gone for the season without a victory to his name. Neither horse had a hard year so how explain the cockup?Seems to me that Dermot did far too good a job of planning their future .Is he planning an assault on Ballybrit next year with these two lightly raced thoroughbreds?
October 19, 2008 at 01:55 #185341Hi Folks!
Dell Yount, here… reporting live from sunny Southern California.

I went out to see the Richest Race Horse in North America
do a bit of schooling, in preparation for next weekend’s Breeders’ Cup Classic.
It really is too bad that Big Brown is injured and out of competition. Wouldabeenagoodrace!Unfortunately, this is as close to the Breeders’ Cup as Big Brown is ever going to get…
October 19, 2008 at 02:03 #185344I took a few photos to share with the group.
Hope you enjoy.
…and now, Ladies & Gentlemen:
Heading for the paddock for a bit of schooling…

CURLIN
October 19, 2008 at 02:10 #185347I wore my BIG BROWN shirt to the race track on Thursday,
to see CURLIN school in the paddock @ Santa Anita Park…
A gentleman from the Curlin camp said to me as he passed by:
“You’re wearing the Big Brown shirt. You heard the news, right?”
Then he gave a look and shook his head as if to say, “Yeah. We’da kicked his…”It really WOULD have been a great “Match-Up!” in this year’s BC Classic.
October 19, 2008 at 02:16 #185348CURLIN in the paddock…

CURLIN in the Walking Ring @ Santa Anita Park…

He’s a handful… a big strapping fellow who exudes confidence and class.
October 19, 2008 at 02:17 #185349Nice photos, Badactor. Thanks for sharing those – a lot nicer weather where you are.

Sorry about Big Brown. It happens. I happen to think BB would have won the race. There are still some nice horses coming over to play though, Sir.

Best of luck.
October 19, 2008 at 02:21 #185351He gave me quite a dangerous look as he boldly strode by,
as if to say: “…a Big Brown shirt!?! What the…!!!???!!!”

CURLIN is a beast of a horse and will be tough to beat next Saturday.October 19, 2008 at 02:27 #185354Thanks Badactor for sending in the photos.
He does look a mean beast, oh and Curlin looks mean aswell.!!!

October 19, 2008 at 04:26 #185367Great pics Badactor, thanks for letting us see them! I’m really looking forward to next weekend!
October 19, 2008 at 04:53 #185374Shame Big Brown got injured, i was din too see him and curlin settle the horse of the year title.
I wihs Zenyata’s conections would have the balls too run her in the classic, seeing her taking dead aim at curlin then gunning him down deep stretch would be interesting.
October 19, 2008 at 07:04 #185379Great pictures, Badactor.
I was lucky enough to see Curlin win last year and he is one BIG boy. I hope he wins again this year (although I won’t be too downhearted if one of our boys win).
I think Zenyatta’s connections have made the right decision. If all goes well at Santa Anita and she continues to progress, there’s no doubt in my mind she’ll take on the boys next year.
Just wish I was going this year. It won’t be the same watching on TV.
Has the potential to be one of the best Breeders Cup we’ve seen.
October 21, 2008 at 04:46 #185654Lovely photos of Curlin, Badactor, thanks for posting those! I dig your enthusiasm, and I hope it’s rewarded with a great Breeders Cup.
I think Curlin is a great bet at the price. I think he will win if they keep him up with the pace. Being a dirt-specialist, I would think that he would need to use his stamina at this trip on polytrack.
I can’t see either of O’Brien’s horses winning: both of have been over-raced and this is an afterthought (much like with Dylan Thomas last year). I may place-lay Henrythenavigator depending on the price. Raven’s Pass is going up 2f which puts me off (I prefer him to O’Brien’s two though). I think Casino Drive, who has a prep. that I like, is an outstanding EW bet. I’m thinking of going in heavily on it.
October 21, 2008 at 10:47 #185656Badactor: can you drop me a line at myles@racenet.com.au? Thanks.
I can’t see anything come within Curlin’s shadow on the homestretch.
A penalty kick without a goalkeeper for mine.
October 21, 2008 at 14:59 #185668Write off Raven’s Pass at your peril I think..

His price of 9/1 seems big to me. Why’s he bigger than Henrythenavigator when he’s just beaten him (in what was a prep. for this), and has had a lighter campaign than him?
