October 23, 2023 at 20:12 #1667908Sounds like Paddington will soon be the next one to toddle off too, maybe a last run in the BC – not sure why they are in such a hurry as physically he looks the kind to likely inproveagain for another year on his back and it is not like he was defending an unbeaten record or anything and Coolmore aren’t exactly in desperate need of another stallion needing to start asap.
October 23, 2023 at 22:55 #1667914Time for frozen eggs/frozen sperm to keep the top horses running for much longer. STS and Frankel were only 2 yrs apart!
October 24, 2023 at 00:55 #1667921Hmmm. My friend has a 5 year old eventer by Voltaire- who died nearly 20 years ago.
Allowing frozen semen would turn a hairdryer on the TB gene puddle unless numbers of foals registered per stallion had an annual cap (something that I think should happen with natural coverings too, but it won’t).October 24, 2023 at 11:14 #1667945Sea The Stars really is the only horse where going into retirement that the comment ‘he had nothing left to prove’ was applicable…if you wanted to be hyper critical, the only thing you could say was that he was never asked to face the challenge of trying to give weight against the following seasons classic generation (would have been interesting to see how he would have got on against that year’s Derby & Arc winner Workforce especially in a heavy ground Arc of that year) or how about a level weights clash against Harbinger in the King George!
Freezing sperm……..that would be a valuable commodity to have if you are talking about the likes of Frankel or Dubawi and might also make for a tempting target for theft as those two charge £275K and £350k respectively a pop and they both easily cover 100+ mares a year.
October 26, 2023 at 12:23 #1668081Chaldean, 2000 Guinea winner also retired to stud

October 27, 2023 at 18:57 #1668199Paddington retired.
The more I know the less I understand.
October 29, 2023 at 13:47 #1668534It was good to see Vieux Lion Rouge in the parade ring at Aintree today before the Veterans Chase. He could have passed for half his age.
I also enjoyed seeing a few ex-racehorses being retrained as show jumpers. These included Definitly Red. He looked on very good terms with himself. The difference in quality between him and the others was stark.
October 29, 2023 at 17:30 #1668559Happy retirement Michelle Payne, I hope you win the Cup as a trainer too
October 29, 2023 at 18:00 #1668564Shaquille retired to stud

October 29, 2023 at 19:20 #1668567That is a surprise there is no evidence he is injured.
The more I know the less I understand.

November 3, 2023 at 01:23 #1668880Westover has been sold to stand at stud in Japan – kind of makes sense as they will most likely make better use of a proper 12F performer rather than him being eventually turned into a NH Sire if he stayed on these shores.
November 4, 2023 at 22:24 #1669370Cody’s wish goes out on a win
Also noticed in non racing agreements is national hunt horses Mercian Prince

November 9, 2023 at 22:18 #1669871I had the same thoughts rtb, and I’d have liked to have seen Shaquille one more year. Happy retirement to him though
