Towards the end of the last Jumps season, it was reported on this thread that Lord Du Mesnil had been retired. However, I see he is declared for the Veterans’ Chase at Sandown on Sunday.
November 11, 2023 at 20:51 #1670179Happened a few times, just hope he stays safe. Maybe he not one for putting his feet up so they giving veterans chases a go

November 25, 2023 at 19:14 #1671829Wishing him a happy retirement. I was hoping it would be Sceau Royal though. Saddened to see him struggling after he’s given so much for so long.
November 26, 2023 at 01:01 #1671881Wishing And Hoping’s trailblazing win in the Veterans’ final was a real highlight of last season.
It’s a shame we will not be seeing him on the racecourse any longer, but I am wishing and hoping (sorry!) that he has a long and happy retirement.

One of my favourites… tbh I thought Sceau Royal really enjoyed himself at the weekend, Tonge. Got no problem with 11 year olds still racing if they’re enjoying it. Never know, he might not like being retired. The way he travelled, going pretty much the best before the home turn. Maybe bring him back to 2m next time. I know they often stay further as they get older, but to my mind he’s always looked a specialist 2 miler. Like to see him retire in the Kingwell Hurdle as a 12 year old; a race he’s done well in in the past so would be a fitting end.
Value Is EverythingNovember 28, 2023 at 12:16 #1672104You may be right GT (and I hope you are) but I think repeatedly being tailed off will soon dampen the enthusiasm of a competitive horse like Sceau Royal and I never like to see it. It would be nice to see him go out on a bit of a high and the Kingwell may well provide that opportunity. I rather fear that ship has already sailed though.
