CAS – Wishful thinking on my part but I think you are right – lets face it if Golden Horn (who won an Eclipse & Irish Champion Stakes at 10F as well as the Derby & Arc at 12F) is becoming a dual purpose sire (aka a NH sire), what chance does a proper 12F horse like Westover have.

Ginge – I have no doubt that if that is where Westover’s future really lies then he would potentially be a great addition to the ranks……could well see him being like the dual Derby winner Old Vic who produced the likes of Kicking King (Gold Cup & dual King George winner), Our Vic (Ryanair, Ascot Chase & Betway Bowl winner), Comply or Die (Grand National winner) and Don’t Push It (Grand National winner).

Breeders are led by market demand.

    Westover didn’t win a Group 1 as a 2yo, and the Group 1s he won as a 3yo and 4yo were at 1m4f.

Neither precocious nor speedy enough to satisfy the “instant return” world we now live in.

He’s never going to sire a Royal Ascot juvenile winner.

    NH sire.

It wasn’t at all surprising when Golden Horn did not live up to his racing career as good a stallion prospect.
For sure he had the 10f Group 1’s.
…And had Cape Cross as his sire, the same sire as Sea The Stars.
But Sea The Stars had the same dam as Galileo.
A horse by Cape Cross is far less certain to produce a top sire when paired with a lesser mare.

Ginge – one of my favourite horses, his French Derby performance was one of the most visually impressive front running performances I have seen – Cauthen at his best (I would argue it was even better than the Slip Anchor ride).

It was such a shame injury ruled Old Vic out of that year’s Arc as it was originally going to be a race that would decided who was the better Derby winner, him or Nashwan…ironic that neither actual ended up making the race (after Nashwan flopped in the Prix Neil and was retired).

The fact that the Arc was won by the notable soft ground performer Carroll House is even more gauling as I think Old Vic (who loved soft ground) would have walked it – the horse that finished 7th in that Arc (Norberto) just 4L behind Carroll House….was the same horse that was 16L behind Old Vic in the aforementioned French Derby.

Poor Kauto the King went horribly lame behind on the run up to the second last yesterday at Exeter, RTV showed the replay (urgh) and nearly a second time until one of the presenters shouted at the producer to stop the tape but thankfully the outcome was better than expected, noted on twitter as retired. https://twitter.com/DansDailyTips/status/1712476242522538307

Father_Jack thanks for this update. I feared the worse when he looked to go wrong before the fence. No time for hockey to pull up then ploughed through it falling heavily
I was surprised when saw him standing
Glad he is now retiring with stable lads

7 runs over two seasons, and retired…..Marvellous. What a sport, eh? Far too small a sample size to be calling her a great.
