I blame that vile kid doing the singing just before the race
Enough to make any horse feel queasy
June 7, 2008 at 22:42 #167279just heard on the radio? is the horse ok?
June 7, 2008 at 22:45 #167280What a shame, a real shame.
June 7, 2008 at 22:45 #167281Virtually pulled up in the straight, being scoped in the stables now- not obviously lame.
June 7, 2008 at 22:45 #167282Horse is outwardly fine moehat. Jockey eased him right down when his chance was gone, but he walked back fine.
June 7, 2008 at 22:50 #167283and is looking for that kid so that he can stamp on his head
June 7, 2008 at 22:52 #167284Moe, they’ve just said he’s fine.
June 7, 2008 at 22:55 #167285glad he’s ok; but what an anti climax for all the people over there….
June 7, 2008 at 23:00 #167287Thank **** the horse seems ok.
June 7, 2008 at 23:14 #167290Is ‘got at’ a possibility?
June 7, 2008 at 23:14 #167291Oh dear. That is the opposite of what US racing needed, with the Animal Rights lot protesting about the race outside of the course and all. The facts won’t matter.
June 7, 2008 at 23:26 #167292Zorro, just before Big Brown came round the top bend I was thinking of Gorytus. The way he was shaking his head from side to side…
June 7, 2008 at 23:40 #167295I don’t really follow the US scene, but I was drawn to the action at Belmont tonight to witness an historic triple crown attempt by Big Brown.
What an arrogant a@@ his trainer is!! Talking about the horse ‘doing a Secretariat’ and the possibilty of his jockey showing off.
He then had the audacity to challenge Curlin’s connections to a match race ‘if they turn up’ (Didn’t the US learn their lesson with Ruffian).
Surely they can’t be that keen to see Curlin’s backside?!
Glad to see the horse is OK.

Is ‘got at’ a possibility?
Wouldn’t that mean withdrawing his drugs?
June 7, 2008 at 23:55 #167298Rick Dutrow’s stomach would probably reject humble pie.
I don’t think Big Brown has many facets to him at all. Like what has been said, Curlin would make him look second rate.
June 7, 2008 at 23:57 #167299I hope Rick Dutrow has learned an important lesson today…
…never wear a blue shirt on a hot day!
June 8, 2008 at 00:08 #167301He was just another Smarty Jones – a class apart over ten furlongs, but not good enough over twelve (though Smarty did make a fight of the Belmont at least).
Prior to tonight Big Brown had beaten mediocre horses well, in races which were run to suit. The slow pace and step up in trip clearly didn’t agree with him and he was duly trounced, admittedly having pulled incredibly hard for half a mile (Desormeaux’s solution being to pull him to the outside, rather than cover him up).
I can’t buy in to any theories of the horse being ‘got at’ for the simple fact that the withdrawal of Casino Drive was almost predictable, a proverbial laying down of the red carpet for the champion elect.
As Sharon Stone might have said had this happened two weeks ago, is this karma?
I will be interested to see how vocal connections are in the coming days, especially with regard to their challenging of Curlin – he isn’t within 10 lengths on tonight’s evidence, let alone within reach.
