Between 74-83 fillies/mares took the race six times and were placed on several other occasions. Perhaps success encouraged success?

Much of the fillies lack of success may be attributed to simple variance. Whether there was bad luck in running, lack of the best fillies running due to circumstances/conditions, due to running into a very above average colt or because simply there was a few down years for fillies. I won’t profess to know the exact answers, but saying "don’t back fillies" because of their bad record for awhile, or "back fillies, look at the past 5 years" is far too simplistic a view. You need to know why either of those may have merit to them.

Are you familiar with term "nobody likes a smartass"? Some people like 10 year trends, some do not.

Why don’t you proffer an opinion instead of analysing and ridiculing other posts?

    Do you have Diabetes too?

Maybe you need to have a day with the dictionary.

I offered an opinion … an opinion that without actual understanding of the trend, the trend itself is limited in use. If you don’t understand a stat, don’t use it.

I gamble, not at horse racing, but outside of greater complexity issues or simple understanding, the most common mistake is misusing statistics and the unwillingness to challenge and look at statistics. I don’t imply anybody in this thread is this as such, but good old Peruvian Chump unzips his trousers before his witty mouth once again.

    Good job buddy!

I’m going to Longchamps for the Arc So can any tell me if I will be able to access an English commentary for all the races when there? Last time I was there 2001
I seem to remember that there was an earpiece you could hire? Anyone know what is available is anything?

Montheton, if you can’t get access to the English commentary, then listen out for this in the closing stages:-

Il n’y a qu’un seul cheval dedans, comme Orfevre va clairement les quatre longueurs et pisse vers le haut dans le Prix de L’arc de Triomphe

Interestingly that translates back into English on Babelfish as:-

"There only ‘ only ‘ one horse inside, as Goldsmith will clear four lengths and piss upwards in the price de L’ triumphal arch"

Well, Orfevre means Goldsmith, so that was educational at least.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

At least if you’ve been there before you’ll know that the sprints are run on the other side of the track and not wonder where on earth the horses are which happened to me the other year. Thought they’d gone so fast I’d missed them….

Backed Orfevre at 16s. Still think he’s different class to these. Wins on the bridal.

£80 traded at 14 on betfair. Unless there was some special somewhere was never 16’s with the bookies.

No, the "Geek" will come to take the pair!!

Speaking of which, anybody know if his half sister ever saw a racetrack? I cant find any record of her. I believe he is very classy but what with all that sprinting ability on the dam side, their has to be a big doubt of intello lasting.

Orfevre does mean Goldsmith, but can also mean expert or master, which is probably what the owners are going for when they named this fine horse.

Also, ‘Un travail d’orfevre’ means a fine piece of work, just to add some more usings of the word.

You are probably correct Rich. "Master" would be a more logical interpretation, unless they were fans of the late James Goldsmith.

I was lazily going by Babelfish and the free machine translation, which is rated as only 70% accurate but a human translation costs over $2, so to hell with that.

I fondly remember getting the following translation regarding an English football pundit during the World Cup:-

"Nous detestons la colline de Jimmy, Il est un homosexuel, il est un homosexuel"

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Haha I love incongruous translations like that…

I did a degree in le francais, but some words like ‘orfevre’ can be open to conjecture about their actual meaning in context.

I once had a funny experience in France when on business, after a very nice main course at a restaurant I turned to female colleague sitting beside me, leaned towards her and whispered, "Je n’ai plus femme." I thought I had said, "Je n’ai plus faim" (I’m no longer hungry) but something about the shocked look on her face told me otherwise (I’d actually said ‘I’m no longer a woman)…
