Disaster as I was confident of going through the card at Wolverhampton today

A speculative Yankee at Lingfield for me today so stay clear of these
145 A poor race and I’m giving Samson Quest another chance to score today with Ma Ridge who finished a short head in front LTO the most probable danger.
215 Fantasy Fighter has run well the last two times it has run over C&D and a reproduction of either of those runs should be good enough today. Simpsons Gamble & Whisky Creek should fight out the minor placings
315 Bollin Franny is a worthy favourite but I’m going to chance Green Velvet picking him up late on. 3 lengths behind BF after being awkward at the start and with a 3lb pull she’ll do for me at around 8 or 9/1.
345 This could be a bit of a muddling pace so I’m taking on the odds on favourite with outsider Play Up Pompey reunited with Richard Kingscote who won on him last month.
January 6, 2009 at 06:26 #2018813.40 Southwell. My impression of video replays for:-
Came Back – needed a strong drive from Daryl Holland to push it out to the line. Not sure that with Ann Stokell on board this horse will be able to repeat the success.
Jack Rackham – first impression of last run was that most of them seemed to be a poor bunch and the pace in the final furlong appeared slow.
Charles Parnell – was impressed with the way he came from 3 to four lengths down in the final furlong and even the commentator said that it was unusual to find horses coming from the back at Southwell. He seems to have a good turn of foot where it matters.
For that reason, my choice is "Charlie is my darling"January 6, 2009 at 19:02 #201954No time for a full write up I’m afraid as a meeting calls

210S Benedict Spirit – Unbeaten at Southwell and won OK LTO over 11f
310S Rebel Duke has to have a great chance but the price is way too short for me so I’m taking a chance old boy The Tatling can score at a decent price
340S Came Back & Luscivious for me with preference for the former
350K Always Certain (EW), plus speculative rfc with Lord Laing
420K I like Onenightinlisbon here to just get the better of Aphrodisia
450K Too Grand seems to have every chance of following up Saturdays course winJanuary 6, 2009 at 21:47 #201981Just to let you know, Aaron, that I’m still following the thread but there is no point me contributing as I am colder than a witches tit. No idea whatsoever how to change it.
Just been down to Southwell for the last three races; backed two heavy losers and First Order who got beat by your mention, the colossal Quinlan punt Rebel Duke.
If you get the chance to see Annie’s finish on First Order you ought to; your mate Hazza Hill would run it without a funny voiceover on TV Burp.
Anyroad, in the winners enclosure after, First Order who is a BEAUTIFUL looking, fine, big animal (testament to her training skills?), peeked over the barrier and nearly licked my head, so I’ve forgiven the Stokell’s once more.
Connections speculated that the horse was unsuited by today’s extra deep surface (my fat a**e was it unsuited; it hacked all over Rebel Duke and will win at the sandpit at some point!), and needs it like a road – which it will get on Sunday at Gt Leighs where the horse will have a tasty 8 stone 3 pounds.
Whoever the oldish fellow who assists Annie might be, he had a twinkle in his eye when he revealed this.

To be fair I’m not much warmer myself. I don’t spend the time that I used to, to be honest as the Racing Post site drives me mad and the time will possibly come when I’ll only look at the horses when I’m actually going racing which wont be much. I’ve had a bit of success on the football so I might concentrate on that a bit more and maybe look at some other sports too.
January 6, 2009 at 23:12 #201996Ah, I could never not bet on horses, Aaron. Sports betting is the poor relation imo.
I go to watch football every week, but my team is doomed to extinction (like many others), because of the feudal dominance of the Devil’s Quartet.
I’ve never liked any other sport much. Except cricket and, lately, darts for some weird reason. We’ll be buzzing by Chelters, I’m sure – been a shocking season so far.
January 7, 2009 at 16:52 #202189Max
Don’t get me wrong I still love the horses (Cheltenham tickets on the Thursday already purchased) it’s just that the time it takes me now to look at the A/W is probably twice as long as it used to be with the new RP site and I’m getting to the stage now where I can’t be bothered. At least with other sports like football there are plenty of places to find any information you require quickly. As for darts , its a great sport (or game if you prefer) to watch and to play. I used to play three or four times a week in my younger days and loved every minute of it.
Anyway,
Backat my favourite AW track Wolverhampton with some big priced fancies.
250W I’m opposing the in form favourite (yet to win at Wolves) here with Gainshare who has run well twice over C&D with todays pilot aboard recently. For a bumper forecast I’m putting in Incomparable who finished a short head in front of the favourite in December and who is 12lb better off today.
320W I have this between Betws Y Coed and Autumn Morning with slight preference for the former to finally break her duck
350W Yet again I’m opposing the odds on favourite and sticking with Hi Spec who did me a turn LTO. Mocha Java a short head behind that day for the forecast.
420W Royal Amnesty in this one for me back over 9 1/2 furlongs after his poor run over 12f LTO. Rebellious Spirit who ran well over C&D after an eight month break LTO would be a danger.
550W In the lucky last I’m relying on Heathyards Pride to follow up his comfortable win over C&D LTO. Aypeeyes who is returning to Wolves for the first time since winning over C&D last year is the forecast pick
I’m still pretty useless at Kempton but will be investing to small stakes in the 255 & 355.
255K Mr Chocolate Drop is two for two over C&D and is in form after winning over further than ideal at Wolverhampton LTO. The consistent Marmooq for the forecast
355K Bonus needs things to drop right but if in peak form can take this. My Gacho to chase him up
January 7, 2009 at 21:33 #202304I haven’t got much of a clue at present and even good old Wolverhampton is against me.

Time to stop for a while me thinks.
January 8, 2009 at 03:11 #202415You were very unlucky with Mr Chocolate Drop, Aaron. That found all sorts of trouble in running and finished like a train at 12/1. I could not have found the winner of that race with celestial help, which is the AW season 2008-2009 expressed in a sentence.
Great joke in the Lounge, btw. I’m still rolling.
January 8, 2009 at 16:30 #202491Two each in the last couple at the sandpit which I’ll back in singles and doubles and possibly a couple of Christmas covering forecasts.
3.20 Elusive Warrior (course and trip specialist back in a handicap after giving weight in sellers; the "word" on Tuesday)
Certain Justice (based on old form, this one would win this half the track; conditions perfect, a big price and Liddiard is currently a 40% trainer. Go-to jockey Fenton rides).Conditions perfect for both and doubts about the opposition.
3.50 Everything (pipe opener last time; all in place for big run under Fenton)
Phinerine (can’t win on form, but looked in much better shape earlier in the week: a Berry improver? 20/1 +)January 8, 2009 at 16:41 #202497Max
You’re in trouble as I have Elusive Warrior as the bet of the day, Whitbarrow is the danger for me.
I would give Everything a chance to, but preference is for Haamasy with Blakeshall Quest possibly one to sneak a place at big odds.
Beat The Bell would be my best choice at Great Leighs in the 3.05
I don’t think I’ll be bothering today however so I won’t be putting the full kiss of death on Elusive Warrior for you
Best of luck
January 8, 2009 at 19:10 #202536Just been out to back these horses, Aaron.
The good news is that the bookie in my shop tells me that EW has been today’s buzz behind the counter which kind of takes the emphasis of our decision making and gives it to the marketplace.

We can only hope. Certain Justice is fancied there too.

Our sparkling run continues apace

Short prices at Wolves today
205 Amber Moon
235 Ahlawy
305 Wilkandoo
335 Hi Dancer
405 Sarahs ArtAt Lingfield
200 Ten Down
230 Space Pitrate EWJanuary 9, 2009 at 19:17 #202790Indeed, Aaron. Alan McCabe won’t be sending us any Christmas cards next year.

Best of luck with the accy.
My sparkler today is Derek Shaw’s improved Westwood Dawn (16.05) who was given a very, very quiet ride at GL last time out and should creep into a place on his third run after a long break – and the transfer from now retired Norma McCauley.
January 9, 2009 at 22:06 #202820Two winners from seven and one unlucky second at 8/1, Aaron. You’re banging on the door, it seems.
Don’t rule out Westwood Dawn though. 20/1, three lengths fifth (eased down) after Williams went for an ambitious run up the rails and found a ton of trouble when the real party was going on down the outside. The horse is a twicer though, so it won’t be next time; a fast run 5f would be the ticket, probably at the sandpit.
It will turn soon.
January 13, 2009 at 16:21 #2036201.30 Southwell.
Gayanula A possible improver back at his winning trip. Hard not to be impressed by his win two runs ago. Not harshly treated by the handicapper. A tasty looking 7/1;up against some fairly rum sorts.
Best of luck.
January 13, 2009 at 19:00 #203676Gayanula drifted like a barge but ran well, I think it bodes well for Benedict Spirit in the 3.10 Great Leighs.
