I shall be having a small bet on Miss Understanding to turn over the odds on fav in the last at Great Leighs
January 14, 2009 at 17:52 #20390820.50 Kempton
Divertimente could be the one at Kempton tonight. The mile might just be up his street (limited attempts at the distance; one runner up spot achieved). Well handicapped. This one has been noted on several occasions in the past few months (backed last time). Stable in reasonable form. Opposition ropey;11/1 available.
Best of luck.
January 15, 2009 at 05:53 #204030The Dore horse ran a really strange race, but its the AW and it happens. Transpires the horse wasn’t all that fancied either. Still I’m convinced that there is a good priced win in this horse.
I have a dilemma. I’ve been following Bahamian Bay (14.00 SW) after it’s eyecatching reappearance run, where it hacked all over standard sandpit opposition around the top bend before running out of puff in the final furlong. However, the next two runs in Class 6 were long priced and did not build on the initial promise.
Basically, Mel Brittain’s gelding is a banded animal, nothing more, nothing less. Today it finally runs in the right class – the first banded race run at Southwell for a good while – but at the wrong trip (7f). It’s more of a 6f horse. I’ll back it because I am compelled, because the horse is fit as a flea after three runs, and because the race is truly, truly dire.
What does anyone else think? Leave it? A big bet? Or a saver to recover prior stakes?
Cheers!

Had a look at the 2.00 at Southwell and fortunately for you I don’t like Bahamian Bay today. I think if Amber Moon acts on the surface it will take the beating however I wouldn’t want to chance it at the price. If forced to have an interest I would risk a small EW on Martingrange Lass whose sole run over 7F is probably its best effort to date.
Best of luck with BB though.
January 15, 2009 at 17:32 #204070Cheers for that, Aaron. I’m at work, but I’ve blagged a meeting this afto to enable me to get to the races after three o clock.
I’ve had a mug bet on BB (because I cannot face this evening if it wins and I wasn’t on it, a much worse feeling in racing than backing a loser), but as you say, it’s not a particularly good selection.
Are you a Dubai fan? I tried to get some interest last year, but no dice.

I can’t say that I am to be truthful, although I did have a couple of interests last year revolving around Kerrin McEvoy which made me a few bob I think. As mentioned previously I’m having a go at other sports a little more at the moment as I had a bit of success on the football and I’ve had a go on the golf this week in Abu Dhabi & Hawaii so the carnival will more than likely pass me by.
January 15, 2009 at 20:02 #204105Hope you were on EW Max
January 15, 2009 at 21:54 #204126I wasn’t Aaron unfortunately, as when I analysed the race the horse was around 8/1. I’m not much of a place bettor either.
How can a horse with this kind of banded form go off at 14/1? Oh well…

Good luck with the golf.

Is there a more reliable method than backing first and second favourites on the AW in January?

Tough card at Leafy tomoz.

This has been on my one to follow list for a couple of months.January 19, 2009 at 20:11 #205162Sorry abou that! Failed to live up to expectations. Off my list.
January 20, 2009 at 04:28 #205263Very nice punted horse in the last Aaron. You seem to be warming up nicely in time for the Big One. I’ve had a look at Southwell, but it looks very tricky. More tomorrow.
January 20, 2009 at 17:31 #205328I’ve had a small amount on Soba Jones in the first at Southwell in the hope that the low draw will enable him to get a good position. Jordi Roper is the danger and may well also be up there. Can’t see too many of the hold up horses getting into this.
January 20, 2009 at 17:57 #205336I wouldn’t put you off Soba Jones and he is now my alternative as City Of Conquest doesn’t go. I shall be rowing in with Head To Head EW.
Mambo Sun in the 2.00 with Rub Of The Relic as alternative is all I could find extra at Southwell today.
January 20, 2009 at 18:14 #205342Good call Aaronizneez.
