    If I think

    Dawn Approach

will get a 11/2m and whether he’s a Derby horse like his Dad,my answer is simple,he was bred to win the 2000 gns and to avenge his Fathers defeat anything he does after that is a bonus.I believe once he’s won the Guineas he will run at Epsom as its a reliable trial for the Blue riband of flat racing,I do believe he will get the trip even though his pedigree says No chance as he’s only just getting into top gear over a mile.

You may be right Gord, but I believe after the Guineas he’ll go for the Irish 2000, I’d be confident of that too. Of course, there is the chance he’ll take in all three just like his sire! They might want to avoid Cristoforo Colombo by then :P

Yes Tommy I have no pretence that

    Cristoforo Colombo

could emulate his own sire and win both Guineas but I have known that since last June.I said then that I expected

    Dawn approach

    and

    Cristoforo Colombo

would go off 1st and 2nd favs for this years Guineas and it looks like I’m right, should both get there of course!I expect a very close run race on genuine fast ground as I’m totally convinced ‘Cristoforo’ is the faster horse but he is a miler through and through and I do think he is very ground dependant. If it comes up soft ‘Cristoforo’ wont even run but that would hand the race on a plate to Jims big horse,I’d like to see the best horse win on Good ground and as long as my names TAPK one of them will! 8)

I backed Matt Kuchar and Charl Schwartzel for the Masters. Ladbrokes were offering a miserly 4/1 for Woods but that paled into insignificance when I heard one of the US commentators say that he had laid into Tiger at EVENS, reckoning that most bookies he knew were going ODDS ON. Sweet Jesus, a tit and his money are soon parted.

On the racing front I took the plunge and backed Just The Judge for the Oaks at 25/1, I am no pedigree guru but I am sure that she will get a little further than a mile at least and she is entered in the race. Something at the back of my mind tells me that I read something years ago about Barry Hills always wanting to win the Oaks and it seems reasonable that the next best would be for the son to do it. If she wins the Guineas the price will tumble quite seriously.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I cannot believe the price of Tiger. Currently 11/4 with Hills, and he’s only 2 under with 3 rounds to go. I’ve also backed Kuchar at 33s and he’s a mean 11/1 now just for being 4 under on the first day.

    I always remember thinking

    Cormorant Wood

was an Oaks filly but I was wrong there,I must say

    Just the Judge

    being a Grand Daughter of

    Rainbow Quest

certainly gives me the impression she could be a 11/2m filly particularly the way she settles in a race,I like her style of running.

Tiger now evens, McIlroy still second fav despite losing three or four shots today. Still two rounds and a half rounds to go, unbelievably poor value.

I agree rich it is poor value in the scale of things but if ever Tiger wanted to win a tournament its this one.First and foremost it will prove that when

    outside forces

are prevalent they will impact on you whatever your profession and the only way to overcome these

    demons

is to persevere. In Tigers case it would confirm that his natural brilliance is still there just that it had been subdued somewhat.I personally hope he prevails and he’s currently showing signs he’s back in the mental zone he used to be in.Fingers crossed but if the demons surface during the next 2 days he’s back to square one again.Golf is the most incredible sport to bet in running as a player can be 5/4 one minute and 20’s in the space of half an hour.

Gord how you see the golf at halfway stage for me it started off well with Garcia and D Johnson making strong starts. Then yesterday Garcia does not handle the wet weather and D Johnson who was 7under after 12holes has a awfull last 6holes now 1under.
I think Garcia and Johnson will put in much better rounds today along with my other picks in ROSE and SCHWARTZEL.

County Carlow maybe the smallest county in Ireland but deep in the heart of this historical landscape nestles Glebe House, home of Jim Bolger and stable to the biggest name in Flat racing,

    Dawn Approach

,trying to catch a glimpse of this imposing son of ‘New Approach’ is said to be more difficult than spotting an elusive Green Woodpecker. As the Crow flys straight over 8 miles of Irelands beautiful lush greenery from Coolcullen, the sleepy town of Kilkenny arrives and with it the 11th Century Castle, climb to the top armed with a good set of Swarovskis and on a clear day according to local myth a Flying Chestnut can be seen striding across the horizon just as the Sun is rising,a White blaze confirms that a new Dawn Approaches and its going to be a beautiful day!I love Mythology. :D

Gord what you rambling on here i got no idea what this means you say strange things you do.And nice to see Lone Wolf hope you been ok but i miss the irn bru pic i do.Gord do you like irn bru best drink ever.

Well I’m amazed Tigers avoided disqualification as had it been anyone else breaking the rules they would have been out of the tournament, that is the sort of thing that plays on your mind and Tiger will now be tested further than he already was.Proves that the 5/4 last night was a joke as he now trades at 7’s with added pressure.I hope he doesn’t lose by 2 shots!!

Sorry for butting in lads but have to say i agree with you Darren i’ve backed Captain Chris e/w 1st 3 places at 8/1 and can’t see him not being placed,he did well to keep with them in the Gold cup with him jumping so right handed all the way round

The form of his cue card race when he almost fell when he was going to put down a serious challenge looks excellent now and the good ground should bring improvement though that could be said for SDC too, also i’m not sure what the stats say but Hobbs and Johnson seem to do pretty well at Punchestown over the past few years if memory serves me right, seem to know the right horses to send, all in all looks a solid e/w bet at least, though i know you’re not really an e/w man

Early days I know and this

    Dawn Approach

is having his 3rd run as a 2yo already but I liked the improvement from his 1st run to his 2nd run when beating ‘Canary Row’, I put it down to the fact that the step up to 6f from 5f played to his strengths,a further step up to 7f will come and again he’ll improve for it,more than that though this ‘New Approach’ colt has a robust physique,a lot like his Sire,he ran with the choke out again like his Dad but he also has masses of scope just like ‘New approach’,I dont like going in early,

    Henrythenavigator

was the earliest I’ve done a 2000gns colt just before the Coventry at 33/1 but this fellow is only 20/1 now and he’ll go 14/1 after todays demolition at Naas. The Dewhurst is obviously the target for this year, then the Guineas,if Jim says he’s not a Derby horse darren,I suggest taking a price now then! We all know what Sneaky Jims like!

    Dawn Approach

    £150 e/w 20/1 Bet365 2013 2000 Gns.

I wrote the above some 45 weeks ago and have waited patiently for the 4th May to come round,in that time I have watched

    Dawn approach

develop into the Group 1 horse he was born to be,obviously as he progressed through his 2yo career his odds tumbled for the 2000gns.With 3 weeks to D-Day and with me sitting on a ridiculous amount of Ante-Post vouchers at prices from 20/1 down I am fortunate enough to start laying just enough off to cover my stakes.I have resisted taking 2/1 but have succumbed to the 6/4 now available on the machine. When you are in a position to protect yourself you have to take it.Foresight allowed me to do this and I can now count the last 3 weeks down without worrying if my horse will turn up.I did exactly the same with

    My Tent or Yours

and we all know what happened there! Thank goodness I did.

Nice piece on Carlow and Kilkenny Gord, very enjoyable read :) In actual fact Louth is the smallest county in Ireland, known as ‘The Wee County’. You might be interested to know that Carlow people are known as ‘The Scallion Eaters’
