May 5, 2013 at 23:03 #438821Well done TAPK, never a doubt that Dawn Approach wouldn’t win the Guineas much like myself
To see him win like that and to be there was, for me, equal to the day Frankel won. Jim Bolger’s team are fantastic, no airs and graces, and after the race when he was cooling down in the stables adjacent to the pre-parade ring, the Lad walked Dawn Approach over to us and let us make a fuss of him, that made my day even better
Great pictures on here of both Dawn Approach and Toronado and other runners.
Sky Lantern made it a Guineas double for me today, she looked a different horse in the paddock today, she was very burly looking in the Nell Gwyn and without the 3lb penalty she took the prize in great fashion.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 6, 2013 at 05:13 #438826Good morning Gordie, i too would like to add my congratulations on Dawn Approach`s victory on Saturday.
As you know, i have been one of your fiercest critics ,particularly in your day to day betting in recent times, but you have certainly shown your ability to spot horses for the future from a long way off and follow it through to the conclusion, well done and a superb outcome – keep up the good work in this area. Will certainly be on the lookout for the next crop you put up for early gambles
May 6, 2013 at 06:06 #438828Apologies for hijacking your thread somewhat Gordie, but i have just noticed an earlier post from Gdc1 and i have a couple of questions i would like to ask him.
Firstly, why would you think that Ginge would feel the need to be jealous of Gordie when he makes his own regular decent profits?
And secondly, and i would ask for your help here, as i cannot seem to find any posts where Ginge has selected 8 or 9 runners in a 12 horse race – perhaps you can direct me there?
Thanks in advance.
May 6, 2013 at 07:27 #438829Well done TAPK, never a doubt that Dawn Approach wouldn’t win the Guineas much like myself
To see him win like that and to be there was, for me, equal to the day Frankel wonA Very Well Done yourself Jac,like yourself the moment I set eyes on
Dawn approach
I just knew he was a Guineas Winner even when he was beating ‘Canary Row’ over 5f,what struck me instantly was his tenacity, his willing head, his Powerful stride and having looked at his pedigree back then, the fact I believed Jim Bolger had bred him purposefully to avenge his Sires defeat I knew it would take a special horse to get past him.Nothing that ran last season ever over concerned me that they could progress to the big chestnuts level of form,Yes ‘Kingsbarns’ was impressive in the Racing Post Trophy but a ‘Belmez’ winning a Guineas….Nah! ‘Cristoforo Colombo’ I still believe is a Group 1 winner in waiting but he really does need fast ground. Then came the mighty impressive ‘Toronado’,his Craven victory was visually impressive but I was totally convinced the horses behind just weren’t fit,I saw him as a serious 4/1 threat but for him to be fav on the morning of the race with Corals beggared belief,at times like that I look for moral support and those were the times I would often look at your own posts as like myself you stand firm, you stood solid when others were questioning
our
fellow and your own judgement was vindicated on Saturday. The day itself came round as does everyday but I was getting twitchy so I said to the Missus even though the Champagne was on Ice that I had to be there, she knows by now what I’m like when I really really really fancy one!
So off I went and it turned out to be possibly,(it still hasn’t really sunk in) my greatest achievement in Racing. You know how I feel,as does Jonibake with ‘Frankel’………Am a still buzzin!………….Trading Leather
for the Derby though is my Ante-Post selection,he wont beat ‘Dawn’ at Epsom but a place behind would suit me fine, the forms there!
Last word on Jim Bolger, the Guys redeemed himself, his ‘New Approach’ to the public has made the wait a lot easier than it was during the 2008 Derby build up and even though he looked nervous on Saturday,(understandably)he handled everything with aplomb.Well Done again Jac!May 6, 2013 at 07:43 #438831Good morning Gordie, i too would like to add my congratulations on Dawn Approach`s victory on Saturday.
As you know, i have been one of your fiercest critics ,particularly in your day to day betting in recent times,
Cheers softie, you are quite right about my Day to day betting and tipping its pretty poor I agree and I need to do something about it.Thankfully I am ‘The Ante-Post King’ not the ‘GingerTipster’,we are both well named!
You have inspired me with your criticism to naming my new thread………‘Its Jus Dawned on me’
,a thread with my usual original and pretty unique style but a serious betting platform all the same, one that will cover all aspects of racing but it will be geared to Group/Graded races on both flat/Jumps,I will still have opinions of handicaps particularly sprints but will try not to P*ss my Profit down the Pan on them.I am working on something locally at the moment regarding meeting up with fellow racegoers at my local courses what would be good is to arrange a meet up somewhere, doesn’t matter where to me but to organise a big TRF day out where we can all meet the ginger one in the flesh drink Champagne and generally take the P*ss,if it ends up a mass brawl all the better!
(Joking)!May 6, 2013 at 08:08 #438832
I’m still buzzing, hope that Champagne went down a treat

I backed New Approach the day he got beaten in the Guineas by Henrythenavigator and now his son has come and finished the job in dazzling style, I can’t help smiling every time I think about it, like yourself.

Was beginning to think that I was the only one who thought he ran a terrific race in the Dewhurst, and yes he did take a while to get going but once he hits the front nothing is going to pass him.
Jim Bolger took him back to Ireland and ironed out all the creases and brought him back to Newmarket a stronger and in good spirit for the task ahead and he delivered in spades. When we saw Kevin Manning stoking him up before the dip and striding into the lead it was mission accomplished.

Will certainly have an each way on Trading Leather too at your suggestion.

Couple of nice New Approach 3yo’s went into the notebook for me from the Guineas meeting. Centurius who ran 2nd to Windhoek in the 6th race on the first day came from a Cl.5 win to Cl.1 listed and looked a picture in the paddock (real chip of the old block
) and yesterday the filly Talent who won the Pretty Polly.New Approach is turning out some beautiful progeny but Dawn Approach is the Jewel in the Crown, what a season ahead, good luck…Jac
xThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 6, 2013 at 08:30 #438835Well, as i said credit where it`s due, and it certainly was in this case.
Looking at this section of the forum, it is clear that there are a number of members who have very good tipping strengths, and good profits can be made from playing to those strengths.
All tips are put up in good faith, and i wish everyone well for being brave enough to put themselves in the firing line, and to be honest, many have their own style away from the norm, which can be a great asset.Always up for a days racing so a TRF day out could well be a good idea, although Ginge would be the first to admit that his sense of direction aint the best – if you suggest Sandown, he`d probably end up in Salisbury!!
Best of luck with your new venture.
May 6, 2013 at 09:24 #438840Toronado
may have been my enemy but he’s a bloody handsome horse!

Great photo Gord. I have stolen it for my avatar as this horse will be back(I hope). I’m of the belief that wasn’t his true run and when Richard phoned me and told me what you did offering to look after Toronado whilst he had a crafty puff on a fag and if you take a look at Toronado’s eyes he looks a bit spaced out. You didn’t share any of that wacky backy with him did you? No wonder he was coughing after the race you old rouge…….

Only when I have a drunk navigator Softie.

It’ll have to be at Newbury then.
If you are still coming to the Lockinge Gord, I’ll introduce yourself and Joni to Softie. All TRFers welcome, champagne is on Gord, although it’s a Diet Coke for me.

Bring Gdc and we can bury the hatchet completely.
