What you guys think of today
Dunboye Express.looks top class horse won easy today
Glor Na Mara was dissapointing after all the hype
And in the maiden Pathfork. Was really impressive going really well and win going away another horse to follow.
July 19, 2010 at 20:52 #307374Well I might as well start up now.
Gerald – I’ve been through every single Derby entry individually and Abdulla has loads of entries, loads of them.
I backed Dunboyne Express since I remember Mordin raving about him on his site but you can rule him out of the Guineas. Ran in a Group race over 6f, tut tut.
Zaidan, poor winner of a poor race and the poor form’s been franked in another poor race. The Superlative and the Chesham are just about the worst quality pattern races for 2yos there are.
Native Hall, yes, I agree. He won a historically very strong maiden and has the RPR to suggest he could be very good indeed. The last 3 winners of that maiden to have recorded a RPR of 91+ while doing so were Elusive Pimpernel, Rio De La Plata and Dubai Destination.
Interesting to look at the Tyros entries. O’Brien usually lays one out for this but there’s really no obvious contender. High Ruler flopped before winning, Zoffany’s had 4 runs already & Jackaroo and Emperor Hadrian are obviously rubbish. Zoffany I’d expect to be his main contender but I can’t have him as a Guineas horse.
The Friday evening maiden at York may possibly be something to keep an eye on. It’s only existed for 2 seasons but Vale of York was last year’s winner. Although the only thing that looks possibly decent is the unraced Claret’n’Blue for Meehan and he doesn’t even hold a Derby entry.

Are there any intresting 2yos in France so far
Any unraced horses you like for the derby next year
And while i agree Chesham is not the best race for 2yos the winner Zaidan looks a very good horse. the way he went in the race was very good and won the race well.
Nice to see you here as well Zarkava. now all we need is Gerald and Wallace to come here more often
July 20, 2010 at 13:22 #307504Darren, I have 128 horses on my Derby shortlist, so you tell me. I’ve only come across names for 58 of them, at least 16 are trained in France and 20 of them are trained by undesirable Derby trainers. 29 of them don’t even have a trainer listed yet.
I should say, that of the 128 on my list, as far as I can tell Ecliptic is the only one to have made it to the racecourse yet.
July 20, 2010 at 13:34 #307508I’m cutting back on my ante-post, especially for Classics, Darren.
Didn’t start betting on the Derby until March/April, and ended up putting a tenner on the 2000 Guineas winner @ 85 10 minutes before race, just because it was the Djebel winner.
I can’t comment on horses that have just run, especially Irish ones, because I don’t see them run.
I’ll take a lot of notice of the Richmond at Goodwood next week, as Dick Turpin and Buzzword both came out of that.
July 24, 2010 at 05:21 #308159Holy Roman Emperor has currently been overtaken by Iffraaj 17-15 for the leading First Crop Sire. We need a quality journalist to cover this epic battle.
July 29, 2010 at 22:11 #309840I’m afraid absolutely sod all’s happened since my last post. Been looking at the maidens but can’t find anything even remotely interesting. Dewhurst entries next week, Guineas winner should be entered in that.
EDIT – Ecliptic looks very interesting. Very unlucky not to beat King Torus LTO and finished 1/4L behind the July Stakes winner on his debut.
July 29, 2010 at 23:21 #309847Well I’ve just been through all the entries again. I think I’ve managed to eliminate a further 6 or so while I’ve got names for quite a few more which makes things a lot easier and faster when checking in future.
So only 124 names on the shortlist now.
Very interesting Ballydoyle newcomer has maiden entries. He’s got a rich vein of Group entries, although he has entries for a couple of maidens at non-Group 1 tracks too. The horse in question is called Outrider and I’ve not come across another Ballydoyle juvenile on my shortlist with more Group entries than him. Entered for the Champagne, Futurity, Derby, National, Royal Lodge and Middle Park.
Actually, found another Ballydoyle juvenile with even more entries but he has about the worst possible Derby profile I could think of. A mid-May foal by Storm Cat. Factum.
The 7f maiden at Leopardstown on August 5th looks a good one. It was run over 6f last year and Beethoven was the winner, so it looks like a maiden Ballydoyle like. I’d say if Outrider runs there, it’ll put him very high up the Derby shortlist at this stage.
EDIT – One of the 124, The Mongoose, runs in a Goodwood maiden today. Genius Beast of Al Zarooni’s is another with entries coming up.
July 30, 2010 at 13:46 #309966I thought there had been a welcome change in the Forum in the past couple of months without having so many people Ballydoyle obsessed. However, I suppose that when we start to consider next year’s Guineas and Derby, Ballydoyle is still our first port of call.
July 30, 2010 at 22:02 #310104Gerald, I only mentioned Ballydoyle in my last post because of the 124 names on my shortlist, only 2 have run and only 2 have maiden entries.
To be honest though I may have ignored the other entry. The breeding’s not bad to be fair, I’ve seen better. The horse is called Genius Beast, trained by Al Zarooni, and he’s by Kingmambo and out of Shawanda…has a very nice foaling date too, mid-February. He’s entered in the same maiden as Outrider and also in a Sandown contest on Thursday night over a mile. I’m going to have a look around and see if I can find 50s for each of them, provided they’re declared. I really wish Betfair would open up an Antepost Derby market already.
July 30, 2010 at 22:19 #310110Sorry Zarkava wasn’t having a go at you, was a swipe at others, the Ballydoyle mania during the close season becomes intolerable pour moi.
July 31, 2010 at 00:52 #310115I know exactly what you mean and I’ve avoided Ballydoyle like the plague in the Derby recently, but it’s so difficult to ignore them when it comes to breeding. They have a partnership with the biggest breeding operation in the world, home to 3 of the very best stallions in the world. And when you think about the broodmares they have, they become even more irresistable.
O’Brien trains 17 of the 124 on my list, while a good 30-odd still have unconfirmed trainers according to the Racing Post. Amen is another that has pretty decent entries.
July 31, 2010 at 09:41 #310157Zarkava
Do you still think Zaidan is a poor horse after all he beat King Tourus at Ascot. And that horse has won his last 2 races
Very impressed by Peter Martins.Last night a Noseda horse won well.
July 31, 2010 at 10:35 #310172I fancied Zaidan to win the Coventry Stakes before he was taken out of it.
Zaidan is the best 2YO I’ve seen this season.
July 31, 2010 at 11:00 #310178The first 2yr old Group 1 is on next weekend and Ballydoyle have nothing to run other than Zoffany.
Dunboyne Express is by far the best 2yr old Colt in Ireland and Seeharn is by far the best 2yr old filly.
Looks a match between the 2.
Of interesting Horses as Zarkava Pedigree wise from Ballydoyle
Amen (Talking Horse)
Factum
Eagle CanyonThen you have the really good Jessie Harrington horse Pathfork. He looks the real deal
August 3, 2010 at 17:06 #310786What you guys think of the debut of Peter Martins at Newmarket last friday. He beat nothing i know but looks a very intresting colt with a bright future and is in my notebook
Strong Suit
Native Khan
Zaidan
Duyboyne Express
Peter Martins
PathforkAugust 3, 2010 at 21:54 #310831Dewhurst entries in a couple of days, I’ll sit down and look at the Guineas then. The winner will be entered and any Ballydoyle horses that aren’t entered are no good.
