Do you think there’s much chance of him going Joe?
January 31, 2019 at 22:35 #1394452I’m already on Abolitionist at 50-1, but time to start looking for others.
I put up Ballyoptic earlier at 66-1, and now he’s half that. I think he has a live chance. I see Rathvinden getting a good word on here, and I agree, that looks a good call too.
January 31, 2019 at 22:36 #1394453I think there’s a huge chance. I recall Tizzard giving Thistlecrack a ‘provisional’ entry in that King George. He wouldn’t be pressed before the race about running but after the horse won a reporter asked him, ‘Was he always going to run?’
‘I don’t enter horses in big races unless I intend to run them’
I paraphrase, but that was pretty much the message. He mentions the National a lot when ELegant Escape’s name comes up. I think he only has the owners to persuade. And if he runs and has decent luck he will win from the post to the elbow.
January 31, 2019 at 22:58 #1394464Thanks Joe
January 31, 2019 at 23:53 #1394481Joe, I completely agree about Elegant Escape. On paper at the moment he looks the best bet but don’t know if he’ll run after their Gold Cup attempt. So I’m playing him down for now, but personally I’ve backed him. Also from my list I liked those in behind EE in the Welsh National. Cogry is a strong candidate too but his expected OR might be too low.
Quelle Farce I’ve done a quick study and think Singlefarmpayment has the profile of a winner, but still crunching the numbers at this moment.

Don't mess with mister in between.February 1, 2019 at 08:04 #1394495I would be astonished if Elegant Escape runs in this years national. I wouldn’t be surprised if Native River goes though.
As for Tizzard not entering a horse in a big race unless he intends to run them, dont forget he had EE entered in the 4 miler at the festival as well as the RSA even though he was never realistically going to run in it in that race.
Also Native River had a grand national entry for the 2017 and 2018 grand national and didnt go.
Perhaps Tizzard didnt used to enter a horse in a race unless he intended to run then but he has since become the greatest trainer of staying chases in recent years and will enter horses in top races and not run them. Also if EE wins the gold cup he would potentially have to run in the race off 175 plus which would be insane to ask a 7yo to do.
If he placed in gc then his rating would again rise but there are already a lot of comparisons with native river and they would surely want to come back and have a crack at the 2020 gold cup and try to repeat what native river did.I think Elegant Escape will one day run in the grand national but probably not til 2021 at the earliest.
Colin is the greatest trainer if staying chasers in world currently in my opinion. He is the greatest because he knows what he is doing and as such I don’t believe there is any chance that Elegant Escape will run in this years grand national.
February 1, 2019 at 08:30 #1394497the weights for National be released long before the Gold Cup Potato, so whatever rating EE is just now less no doubt a few pound of encouragement from handicapper to get the “classier” ones into the National will be his rating come April..
Personally ill be amazed if he doesn’t go National this year,, and win or go close
A year is a long time in a chasers career and anything (touch wood) can happened to them
February 1, 2019 at 09:11 #1394498Oh ok yes I guess the weights would be out before gold cup as its only 3 weeks or so after the race. Only ever backed 3 antepost bets in my life so am not too clued up on such matters.
Still, I will be absolutely shocked beyond belief if Elegant Escape ran in this years national.
I’m not the kind of guy to put my head on the block and make bold statements however I really dont think for one minute he will run in that race.
The team think too highly of this horse to risk him in the national aged 7.
They adore this racehorse I can assure you.Anyway let me not post anymore about that horse on this thread for the time being as we dont want it descending into similar lines to the gold cup thread.
February 1, 2019 at 09:21 #1394499Even tizzard knows that EE is a slow boat who needs at least 4 miles
February 1, 2019 at 11:00 #1394511I’m not convinced Colin Tizzard is the biggest fan of the Grand National so I’d be very sceptical of any horse he enters.
Do we know if we’re getting another cringe worthy live weights announcement this year? The last two years have been thoroughly embarrassing for all involved and I’m wondering if they’ll attempt another one?
February 1, 2019 at 11:03 #1394512With the mistakes he makes he’d get rid of the jockey on the way round. Too young and too high in the weights, they wont run.
February 1, 2019 at 13:26 #1394572Did you say ‘IF’ EE Wins the Gold Cup Potato? Bad form! I don’t think they would run him this year as he will probably have had one hard race too many after the Gold Cup.
2020 will be his year Potato. He reminds me on Don Slowly(Pre-Injury) just plugs on all day.
I’m interested in Tea for Two in this now he is being aimed at the Cross Country at Cheltenham. No Bet for me yet though yet.
February 2, 2019 at 01:10 #1394723Potato, Native River can’t go for the National this year. Not in the list which was published on Wednesday. Only the 112 have a chance and one will win it, unless we have a repeat of 1993. My money’s on EE and I’m hoping for his best form to come out in the Gold Cup. Most winners of the Grand National produce their personal best either on their last or next to last run before the National before improving again in the National itself.
Of course they might not go to Aintree and I’m already counting it as they won’t but prepared if they did.

Red Rum 77. If Singlefarmbloodypayment(BF) wins then I’m giving up the sport as it will prove I clearly know nothing about it.
Well after more intensive research I think the run in the CF Roberts 25 Years Of Sponsorship Handicap Chase (Grade 3) at Cheltenham (14th Decemeber) looks very strong to me. The race was used by Mon Mome in 2008 on way to victory in 2009. His OR has only gone up 1 pound since that gallant effort, although Cogry beat him that day, Cogry rating expected to be 141 may not be enough to qualify.

Don't mess with mister in between.February 4, 2019 at 10:35 #1395139Ms Parfois runs at Exeter on Sunday and is being targeted at the Nash. I’ve taken a small swing at 40s with Lads, she’s on a nice mark and will stay all day.
February 4, 2019 at 12:46 #1395155She’s been given every chance by the handicapper. I’m amazed she’s as big as she is in the market…
February 4, 2019 at 16:30 #1395183It looks very winnable as well, but hopefully it wouldn’t affect her mark too much.
I could see her round Aintree
