Don Cossack had a confidence booster around Thurles after his fall in the King George, unfortunately for Killultagh Vic he won’t have that luxury. It will be a great story should he win.
My long term fancy has been Our Duke, who has hardly had an ideal prep himself, but there were positives in his Leopardstown run. Gowran on Saturday looks the plan for him.
February 14, 2018 at 22:23 #1342267I’m siding with Blacklion & Definitly Red – managed to get 33/1 ew on Black and 50/1 ew on Red
Still great value on them both imo – 25s & 16s
I watched Twiston Davies talk to Matt Chapman last night and i just have this feeling that its been the plan all along for Blacklion to run in the GC rather than at Aintree.
February 15, 2018 at 21:33 #1342430Total recall runs here afterall
February 15, 2018 at 22:26 #1342440interesting stuff, happy that means hes not in the coral cup!
February 16, 2018 at 09:56 #1342464Strange one; I thought he’d definitely run in the Coral Cup as his hurdle mark should still be below his Chase mark. Based on his Whisper form he has no chance here? Unless they’ve bait another stone of improvement into him
February 16, 2018 at 12:08 #1342480I think they want to try the GC as a test to see if he can handle carrying a decent weight. When/if Definitly Red & Bristol De Mai come out he’ll have a bigger weight.
February 17, 2018 at 14:08 #1342712That race will have ended our dukes gold cup chance and presenting percy’s for that matter, dont get why youd give them such a hard race so close to the fes.
February 17, 2018 at 17:48 #1342789Big gross horse only having his second run of the season, I was delighted and so was Jessie.
Jockey choice for Our Duke will be very interesting (Puppy surely chooses SJ).
February 18, 2018 at 01:45 #1342862Ham, last year’s winner won a 3m G1 race on soft 4.5 weeks before festival, each horse is different. OD definitely needed it.
It’s a simple choice for puppy though, OD prob at the level he showed today, which will be well short of GC winner imo.
The 2 form horses are Road to Respect and MB; both are fair prices IMO, especially the former who is improving all the time and arrives fresh next month
February 18, 2018 at 02:06 #1342864Nothing to do with horses being incapable of running to form 4 weeks after having a hard race, but hes had two pretty hard races in 2 weeks after back surgery, i get that the horse needed the run, but they should have skipped the irish gold cup and just used this, did he really need two? Not so sure. Definitely came on for the run in the irish gold cup, looked fit and ready today, i dont believe he will improve any from this run, is the point im making. Should have waited the two weeks and just used today.
One to many given his injury i fear, just an opinion of course and i may very well be wrong, but that was another hard race today, i dont think PP needed that either.
His jumping has been pretty poor his last 2 runs, clouted another today.
Is he definitely going to cheltenham?
February 18, 2018 at 03:00 #1342868I thought that giving a horse as good as PP 7lb and a beating over a trip far too short and on ground that was far from ideal was an excellent prep for the GC personally. He will only improve for the better ground and step up in trip.
Will agree that his jumping has become a major concern now though, still having back issues possibly?
February 18, 2018 at 13:01 #1342894Just a lazy sort that loses concentration apparently. Better ground hopefully help him with his jumping.
Noel Fehily has been confirmed as jockey for him in the GC, delighted with that.
February 18, 2018 at 14:34 #1342910Could be right moyenne, just puts me off slightly, i know all horses are different, but why does our duke need 2 quick/hard races after back surgery within 4 weeks of the gc, but sizing john can be prepped at home, off since december.
Fehily a good booking certainly kev
February 18, 2018 at 15:54 #1342926I think Anibale Fly is worth one more try here at 40-1 each way. I don’t think he would have won a fortnight ago, but he was slowly creeping into it before that ugly fall.
I will add him to my Road To Respect 12-1 and hopefully they can give me some compensation for my non Runners
February 18, 2018 at 19:35 #1342961Cue Card will go here with Paddy Brennan.
February 18, 2018 at 20:54 #1342966Pretty sure the stats for horses winning the Gold Cup after winning /running on Heavy are massively against Our Duke.
Gowran Park is a stiff track
February 18, 2018 at 21:35 #1342968Whilst I’m sure we all adore Cue Card I just can’t see him winning the Gold Cup. He had his chance two years ago when falling three out when looking as if he had fuel to burn. To be honest I’m not he gets the 3m 2f trip. He clearly gets three miles but the extra two furlongs and the uphill finish are, in my view, a bridge too far for him. I hope they go for the Ryanair, I hope he wins it and brings the roof down (not literally). Leave the Gold Cup to Might Bite and co.
