2013…?
Wayne Rooney had a good game back then as well.
Horse preferences can alter, Yes, Cue Card goes well on good going but I’d rather look at recent form and the evidence is any race without a bit of cut in it he has been beaten.
I believe if Thistlecrack is up against him the going will be too quick for him to win it whatever the going.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026

Apart from Wetherby, Cue Card has only run twice “without a bit of cut” since 2013, which are:
Second in the 2015 Melling Chase where, yes, below form. But he was also below form in the race before (5th in the King George) and the race afterwards (4th in the Punchestown Gold Cup) BOTH times WITH give in the ground. Indeed, he was below form on every run that season due to the EPPIGLOTIS problem… Do you really want to disregard the eppiglotis problem and all other runs that season to believe the Aintree poor run due to good going? There can surely only be a very, very small chance of it being due to the ground? ie A very small possibility, NOT a “probability”.
The only other run on Good going since 2013 was in the Gold Cup and I ask again:
Had Cue Card not fallen last year when still travelling strongly/best of all (on GOOD ground)… where is the evidence he would’ve been below form?

2013…?
I believe if Thistlecrack is up against him the going will be too quick for him to win it whatever the going. Now you’re trying to dimantle the goal posts and reassemble them in another continent.
Value Is EverythingNovember 20, 2016 at 16:24 #1273595He was fit enough at Wetherby

November 20, 2016 at 16:28 #1273597I give up.
Do you ever answer a question, Nathan?
Not going to ask the same question a third time.Ignoring the evidence won’t make you right.

Still waiting.
Value Is EverythingNovember 20, 2016 at 17:01 #1273601There is less evidence to suggest he would have won
Why didn’t he do so well at Wetherby
Was his jumping fluent that dayGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026

very poor imoThe horse is getting older, the EPPIGLOTIS problem will not make his legs run any faster, I’d would say he is more a stamina horse now than speed

Was his jumping fluent that daySo, is what you’re saying – Although Cue Card was fully effective on Good going (including in the Gold Cup) – he suddenly changed to being unsuited by good going in the Charlie Hall?
…There might be a very, very small possibility of that. To think it is a “probability” is nonsense without further evidence.
As I said earlier: When Cue Card disappointed in the Charlie Hall, I originally thought – because of connections confidence beforehand – he was spot on and therefore age was probably catching up with him. However, I was wrong. It’s fairly obvious to me now – that just like the previous year – he was NOT fully fit.
In this season’s Charlie Hall all other prominent racers – Virak, Dynaste and Wakanda finished in the last three places, where as winner (who recieved 4 lbs from CC) Irish Cavalier and 2nd Menorah were both held up. So – considering pace and weights – a 3 1/4 lengths 3rd was of a similar form standard to winning by 3 3/4 lengths at level weights from Dynaste in 2015…
So in hindsight, it is not that surprising Cue Card improved from Wetherby reappearance to Haydock by a very similar amount as in 2015 (a lot). He reportedly “blew for 45 mins” after the Charlie Hall, which also suggests Cue Card was unfit.

Now who’s editing?
Edits did not change the questions…
Still no answer to the Gold Cup question.
You just can’t answer it. :lol:Value Is EverythingNovember 20, 2016 at 23:30 #1273634edited

November 21, 2016 at 00:22 #1273637Well done Cue Card….tough day for me yesterday…most deflated I’ve ever felt coming out of a racecourse…didn’t even stay for the last race…which I would have backed the winner if I’d stayed!! Would have been my only winner aswell which kind of summed up my day! Grim and lonely journey home in miserable weather over the M62…..
November 21, 2016 at 08:56 #1273657connections confidence beforehand
Cue Card was unfit
Have you reported your findings to the BHA…?

November 21, 2016 at 10:20 #1273660Commiserations, Zam. I recognize that feeling too well. But your horse ran a mighty race. CC got the plaudits – rightly so as he’s a freak of a horse having been at the highest level since he was 4 and, it appears now, going through most of his career with a wind infirmity.
But to see Coneygree run and jump as he did and watch the others, bar Cue Card, fall away one by one was a sight indeed. The best news for you and for racing was that the big horse walked out sound on Sunday (there’s a lovely short video clip of Sara leading him through the village: it’s on Mark Bradstock’s twitter feed). I feared the Bradstocks had been foolhardy running in that class and that ground first time back. A bold move which seems to have paid off.
There will be other days.

Hopefully not too disheartened Zam. Coneygree ran a super race after 12 months on the sidelines. When Johnson knew he was beat he wasn’t hard on Coneygree at all so could have been a little closer. I’m sure he’ll come on for the run and if he gets his conditions come March I think he will be a major player. Cue Card is some animal though.
November 21, 2016 at 10:36 #1273662I THINK BOTH HORSES RAN SUPERB RACES ON SAT. SARA BRADSTOCK SAID YESTERDAY THAT CONYGREE WAS BUZZING AFTER HIS EXERTIONS WHICH IS GREAT TO HEAR FOR THE FUTURE, CUE CARD FOR ME WAS DEFINATELY NOT FIT FOR THE CHARLIE HALL, ITS WAS JUST THE WAY HE STOPPED, THEN TIZZARD SAYING HOW HE HAD BLOWN ALOT,
NOT SURE ABOUT C CARD IN GOLD CUP AS IM 1 THAT THINKS HE WONT STAY THE TRIP ROUND CHELT, BUT DO THINK CONYGREE WILL COME ON A BUNDLE, AND IS VERY MUCH IN MY THOUGHTS FOR GOLD CUP DOUBLE. AS WE SAW JOHNSON I THINK GAVE HIM 1 SLAP BETWEEN 2ND LAST AND LAST, SO NOT HARD ON HIM AT ALL
CANT WAIT FOR THEM TO MEET AGAIN THOUGHNovember 21, 2016 at 10:38 #1273663The going will probably be too quick for Cue Card come March
Think you’re taking too much notice of connections excuses Nathan. Brennan’s comments about Cue Card’s Wetherby reappearance being due to the ground don’t seem to add up. Other good ground performances… Going really well in last year’s Gold Cup when coming down (every chance at the time – had he won would they be saying good ground doesn’t suit?). Aintree and Kempton came with the Eppiglotis problem… And one of the best performances you’ll ever see by any novice when second to Sprinter Sacre in the Arkle. Also has an action that should suit good ground.
I must admit I was also a little puzzled with the Brennan comment regarding the ground.
