Long Run, Syncronised, Bobs Worth, Lord Windermere.
They are the last four Gold Cup winners, which one of those was / is a horse that can "quicken well"?

Depends how you interpret "quickening" but they all flew up the hill faster than the opposition.
February 4, 2015 at 09:40 #504050The biggest worry I’d have about Many Clouds is the ground. All of his form is on soft and I think he’s need similar conditions to show his best form in the Gold Cup.
When it comes to ground conditions I think they are more important to horses at the festival than they are at any other meeting of the year flat or jumps.
February 6, 2015 at 12:35 #5042547/2 Best price Boston for the Hennessy with Sports book, remainder generally around 5/2 mark.
I’ve just partaken. My comments still apply about the trip for him, but 3miles round Leopardstown In a soft grade 1 is definitely not 3 1/4 miles around Chelters at full tilt against genuine grade-oners !
I think the ground is key to him, and it’s currently Yielding, soft in places. We look set for a dry week over here and Leopardstown drains very well so I’m hopeful those soft places will have dried up

Seems like Ruby thinks differently to us. Step forward Master Townend for a big pay-day

I’m quite surprised at that especially with the ground drying. He said after his Punchestown Gold Cup win, Mullins had to talk him into riding Boston Bob over On His Own, so maybe he rates On His Own higher than Boston Bob, which I suppose he is.
February 6, 2015 at 17:24 #504290Maybe it’s just the case that Ruby will ride Djakadam in the Gold Cup, Paul Townend on his old mate Boston Bob and David Casey on On His Own, so it makes more sense for Townend to be reunited with Boston Bob here.
February 7, 2015 at 14:49 #504458Today’s winner Coneygree is as low as 8/1 for the Gold Cup and it has to be said that is ridiculous.
Simon Holt was slevering about him beating seasoned chasers today but they were a disappointing bunch coming in, hence the reason for Coneygree being favourite today.
8/1? (And Jesus Wept)
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 7, 2015 at 15:01 #504463Well I thought that was a fantastic round of jumping from a Novice, just like at Kempton….on a line with the runner up and Many Clouds then Coneygree has every bit as much a chance as him….
He’s on the improve without question….all 3 runs over fences have seen significant improvement….he’s so uncomplicated….and a horse definitely going places….
On a personal level though I hope and pray they stick to the RSA because if Kings Palace is his biggest danger then bring it on!!…..He can win the Gold Cup next year along with the King George…

He put in a great round but there were some cuddies in there really. Taquin De Seuil didn’t settle well and is looking disappointing, while Unioniste looked like he needs six miles today.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Coneygree do the business but I feel 8/1 is a bit farcical for beating a field a good way short of top class.

February 7, 2015 at 16:29 #504512I took a wee bit of 16s, based as much on Johnson’s assessment as the performance. 8s is far too small. And my concern with him, like some other Bradstock horses, is that all-out rip them apart from the start attitude can easily wear out a young horse.
February 7, 2015 at 17:42 #504534With Coneygree being a front runner surely connections will favour the the RSA run on the tighter old course, he will have an 85k race blown to bits turning in. There’s plenty of time to take on the big boys imo.
February 7, 2015 at 17:45 #504535I hope for Zamorston and the horse he goes for the RSA. I don’t believe in going GC first year chasing.
Echoes of Sprinter winning at Newbury before his arkle. Obviously not as taking but putting old hands to the sword. The RSA could be his for the taking.
February 9, 2015 at 22:39 #504883Boston Bob a little disappointing yesterday. I thought Townend had him settled nicely and jumping well, however he didn’t seem to put him in the race until approaching the home turn when he was too far out of his ground. He ran on after a slow jump at the last. I expected him to be bang there, but to my eyes he was running with another day in mind and the owners other horse was the one expected to take the prize.
February 11, 2015 at 15:40 #505101Holywell has been found a nice easy race at Kelso tomorrow. It is not going to tell us much about him, other than that he’s still got four legs.
There are only 4 runners tomorrow and Holywell has 26 lbs in hand on the ratings. The betting has Holywell at 4/11 with Fentara 11/2, Diocles 13/2 and Rose Of The Moon 14/1. Those odds are from Paddy Power, the first firm to offer betting.
Holywell surely has to win this on the bit to warrant a Gold Cup shot and I have to say I don’t like this as a prep for Cheltenham, it couldn’t be more different from what he’ll face in The Gold Cup.
I know a lot of forum members are on at fancy prices but he makes no appeal to me, especially at a shocking 9/1 for the race with Paddy Power. I’ll lay him all day at those 9/4 odds, for a place, in a race that looks potentially a lot more tricky, with improvers coming into the picture, than the race did when Holywell was huge odds and we had just seen three "cuddies" finish 1-2-3 in the race.
Hoe Lay Well, is my advice

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 11, 2015 at 15:50 #505104I’d say you’ll do well to find someone to take 9/4 David

Will be disappointing if he can’t win tomorrow.
February 11, 2015 at 15:52 #505105Shutthefrontdoor misses Cheltenham and is targeted at The Grand National. It was felt too much to ask to go for The Gold Cup without a prep run.

Sadly ‘The Machine’ has been telling us for the past 10 days
Shutthefrontdoor
was looking very unlikely to line up in the Gold cup,a drift from 22’s – 60’s tells us someone knew.It does amaze me how the High St Bookmakers never seem aware of these massive market drifts as the horse has been a solid 16/1 shot for ages.Still a body blow for myself as I rate this horse very highly and my 100/1 vouchers are worthless now.TAPK knows if you want the price to pay,you have to pay the price and today I paid. However my payment will be recouped with interest when
Holywell
wins the same race at 50/1 for me.God knows why he’s bothering to go to Kelso tomorrow as a good gallop round Jackdaws Castle would have the same effect. In fact there’s no positive going to come from tomorrows race,I just hope his jumping is clean as it doesn’t matter what excuses we make about horses, needing better ground, not tuned up etc,but if a horse cant bloody jump we’re stuffed.Fingers crossed and soldier on! Joe your Ass is still mine!!
