    How did this happen?!?

Two Mickey Bowen runners flash past the post together, one with its head up and the other’s down and the judge calls the result within 60 seconds. But he calls it the wrong way.

The photo finish operator eventually raises the alarm but only after the weighed in announcement has been made which means that although the official result is changed, punters who backed the real winner are not entitled to a pay out.

If you view the photo finish still you can see that the horse with the head up has won but it is difficult to see which horse has its heads up. However on the freeze frame it is easy to see that Fiskardo on the near side is the horse with the raised mane.

A really poor mistake to make.

I can easily see how that happened I suspect many people would view that picture wrong.

The more I know the less I understand.

Does the judge not have access to the racetech footage, only the photo finish picture?

You can easily tell from the freeze frame rather than the photo finish that Fiskardo has his head in the air.

Poor mistake. On first sight it looks like the other horse won. But if you check the mirror image and look closer it becomes pretty obvious Fiskardo has won.

I’m afraid the judge just wanted to get home for his tea and made a hasty decision.

Wouldn’t be happy if you’d backed the winner.

Dave Smith was sacked after making a similar error at Kempton.

No excuse judging from the RaceTech photo finish print in the RP

A lazy, poor mistake at best, made in exceptionally quick time. How do we know corruption is not involved with millions of pounds at stake?
Can we expect a lengthy suspension for the judge Fraser Perratt as happens when jockeys make a “mistake”? Maybe he should just hold his hands up and resign.

Millions of pounds at stake? In the last race at Perth own a Friday afternoon? Think that’s stretching it a bit…

Yes, it’s a poor mistake to make but we’re all human. Although no doubt some of you have never made a mistake in your lives…

With all the betting outlets are you really saying there aren’t millions at stake on every race Gladiateur?

As Greg Wood said when Dave Smith got fired for a similar offence.

I wouldn’t think there are millions bet on a minor race at Perth, no. The Grand National has £250-300 million bet on it, for comparison.

Maybe I should have put potential millions. Not sure how relevant the quality of the race should be to a judge.

Betfair must have a record of how much money was traded on the race on the Exchange. About £40,000 was traded on the photo.
