Mike,
Trainers only use tongue ties on horses they believe might need a tongue tie, because many horses don’t like them. Therefore putting first time tongue ties on horses that don’t need them actually reduces the likelihood of running to form. Because the trainer won’t know whether the horse will give its running until under race conditions. Whereas the risk of it not liking the tongue tie is worth taking with one who’s had a breathing issue; because of a greater chance of it solving the problem. The most likely thing is Shadow Of Light’s jockey came back from that poor racecourse gallop and told the trainer he heard a noise / might be a wind issue.

Opposite is true.
Value Is EverythingMay 3, 2025 at 12:03 #1729150So basically, it’s set up for a less considered horse to win. Can see a couple hitting the frame at fancy prices.

The more I know the less I understand.

Got on just after he crossed the line last time out.
May 3, 2025 at 13:06 #1729172Looks like the print form in the Racing Post shows a tongue tie was worn but the on-line version doesn’t.
I agree with your reading of the Dewhurst, GT. I thought he was worth an extra length of two given that he moved sideways over half the track and Expanded had the rail to help him.May 3, 2025 at 13:19 #1729173I hope the draw doesn’t play a big part today.
Most of the pace is in the centre… And although quite a lot of horses have records of liking to be up around the pace, there is no definite out and out front runner.Drawn 5 Wimbledon Hawkeye. So far has raced near the pace without setting it, but you’d think will need a good pace / stamina test at the trip if he’s to be effective at a mile as a three year old.
Drawn 5 Tornado Alert. Has tracked pace on all starts so far… But has a lot to find on form. Is he a pacemaker for Godolphin’s apparent first string Ruling Court? Then again, a slower run race might help owner companion Shadow Of Light.
Drawn 7 Green Impact. Has made the running before but doesn’t have to to be effective. Likely to be at least up there with / near the pace. Strongish run race might help his stamina come into play. Stayed a mile well at two.
Drawn 8 Seagulls Eleven. On race records might look the most likely pace setter, but is not sure to stay. So it’s in his best interests to dictate a slower run race if going to the front. But might even be held up in order to have a better chance of staying the trip.
Drawn 3 Expanded. Led in the Dewhurst. With no Coolmore pacemaker / other representative could do so again. If I were Ryan Moore I’d go for the far rail! Those drawn even lower are Shadow Of Light and Scorthy Champ who are two of the most likely to be dropped out the back… So a switch to the far rail is possible for Expanded. Especially with the two favourites Field Of Gold and Ruling Court being hold up horses drawn 10 and 11 furthest away from / likely to be most inconvenienced if the best pace is far side.
Benevento will probably be held up to get the trip and Yoh Moh under Spencer will Be There at the back of the field.

May 3, 2025 at 15:01 #1729213A shame the other Juddmonte runners are not running here, which I guess is a positive to Field of Gold
Wimbledon Hawkeye 16/1 will be my play has had a run albeit has 4 lengths to make up on Field of Gold from last time the price stands out to meGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
May 3, 2025 at 15:01 #1729214With the tailwind it’s favoured horses racing prominently…
And / or racing on the third quarter across the course (dividing the course into four).
Possibly favouring lower drawn runners.Value Is EverythingMay 3, 2025 at 15:22 #1729224All things considered … I’m going for Field of Gold. The way he handled the dip and then glided over the rising ground still resonates with me. If this horse doesn’t win for Mr Gosden, I don’t know what will.
May 3, 2025 at 15:24 #1729226Refreshing not to have all the hype circus we’ve had over the previous two seasons.
The more I know the less I understand.
May 3, 2025 at 15:34 #1729228Wimbledon Hawkeye 16-1 ew for an interest.

May 3, 2025 at 15:38 #1729231Field of Gold should have won that, he was over confident and let the winner get first run
May 3, 2025 at 15:39 #1729232Glad gets the winner with the first post! Well done and also everyone else on. I wonder how Henri Matisse would have got on, but oh well.
May 3, 2025 at 15:39 #1729233The best horse came second, awful ride
Well done winnersGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
