I don’t think its necessarily a done deal with Native Trail getting the verdict over his stablemate tomorrow reading these trainer comments at the end of last season.
“We have seen two nice colts. You cannot fault what Native Trail has done and William and I probably differ but I do like Coroebus. As three year olds, when the pace of the race is getting quicker in these Classics, the one thing you have to do is travel and that is what Coroebus does. He has so much speed that no matter how fast they went they would never take him off the bridle before the two pole.”
And we have seen ‘no 1 strings’ being beaten in the 2000 guineas before. Will be interesting to see if Coroebus lives up to what the trainer thought/thinks.
April 29, 2022 at 13:58 #1596077That craven stat is a worry and Appleby must have been concerned to run native trail in it. He originally said the other horse was going there. The more I look at it it reminds me of try my best. He was a great stamp of a horse but never went on. The craven form in no way justifies the price. Had Luxembourg won the craven by three lengths would he be favourite. I doubt it. Native trail could blow them away as could tenebrism in the 1000 guineas. The beauty of the guineas is we only have native trail having run of the principals.
It’s guesswork who has come forward the most. At the price point Lonsdale surely is worth ew at 14/1 rather than the odds on fav. He reminds me of anything van dyke and probably be better at 10 or 12 furlongs but can get a place here. The race is certainly not clear cut as the market suggests. IMHO of course.April 29, 2022 at 14:25 #1596085On the Craven stat didnt Barney Roy run in it or was that the Greenham? He was very unlucky not to beat Churchill and did at Ascot
April 29, 2022 at 14:30 #1596086Shadeed won the Craven by six lengths, then made heavy weather of winning the Guineas.
Over the years, it’s been less of a guide than you might think, given it’s the same course and distance.
But Native Trail isn’t priced up on his Craven form – all that confirmed is he’s alive and well.
I rated him 115 on it, though, 7lb below his OR, but still as good as anything else in the field.
Hoo Ya Mal was runner up today.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"April 29, 2022 at 14:34 #1596088I think the trouble is hes rated on the National Stakes where I dont think we saw the best of the 2nd or 3rd. Was hardly a vintage Dewhurst.
April 29, 2022 at 20:20 #1596167£100 on the nose – Native Trail!
April 29, 2022 at 20:37 #1596171Enough doubt on the form to take on native trail. Hoo ya mall well beaten today. Hardly endorsed the craven form.
April 29, 2022 at 21:16 #1596177Point Lonsdale
LuxembourgVF x
April 29, 2022 at 21:22 #1596180I believe Native Trail will win but also like Point Lonsdale each way with four places.
April 29, 2022 at 21:36 #1596184I did Point Lonsdale after Royal Ascot for this
Native Trail firmly put him in his place so you’d think Aidan maybe wasting his time running, unless they knew PL wasn’t 100% that day or if he has grown wings over the winter.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
April 29, 2022 at 21:46 #1596185backed Checkandchallenge a couple of days ago, just seems like the type who could be anything and with fitness on his side, as well as the temptation of e/w being top 4 I couldn’t say no to 28/1 with skybet. Really impressed me the way he won at Newcastle on his reappearance jockey never had to use the whip or ride him fully and he drew away from the (albeit small) field in the style of a good one.
Not saying I’m confident, but he seems good value.
April 29, 2022 at 22:25 #1596187Have used my bet365 free bet on Checkandchallenge as seems good value, even with price now 16-1. Also couldn’t resist a quid e/w on The Wizard Of Eye 200-1 4 places !
April 29, 2022 at 22:30 #1596188I want to gake on the favourite, and the two for me are Coroebus and Light Infantry.

So don't run, just like the others always do
April 29, 2022 at 23:35 #1596204I’m on Native Trail ante-post at 5/1 and 7/2 but, while I wouldn’t hedge on the machine (not my sort of thing) I’m not particularly confident.
Native Trail is worth his OR of 122 as a 2yo, which is good enough to win a bang average 2,000 Guineas.
But….
– I think he only ran to 115 in the Craven and Hoo Ya Mal got crucified today
– He might not be that well drawn
I wouldn’t blame anyone for opposing him.

April 30, 2022 at 00:42 #1596211That is a possibility Ista I was just thinking about that when you posted and certain that will be at the forefront of their thinking the last thing we want is a hard luck story.
Going back to Hoo Ya Mal he didn’t stay the Mile in The Craven and then he runs over 1m2f and get’s hammered by Nation’s Pride I don’t think that reflects badly on Native Trail who beat him out of sight in the Craven.
I believe in the horse and his will to win and yes I’m superstitious about that dreadful stat which I hope to see blown away tomorrow when Native Trail pulls off the Craven/Guineas double for the first time in 18 years.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 30, 2022 at 01:09 #1596216Best of luck Trip, Ian and everyone else who’s rooting for Native Trail, let’s hope there are indeed no hard luck stories! Fascinating renewal as usual.
