I’m rarely impressed by 2 year old form but Native Trail looks an absolute beast. That said, I wouldn’t take 3-1 about ANY horse even running in the Guineas at this stage, let alone a physical freak (in the nicest possible way) like NT.
Will we see another transformation like snowfall or poetic flare come may.
I doubt it mickeyjp. The beaten horses look a mediocre bunch even by last year’s standards. Possible exception (for me) is Bluegrass. I suspect we’ll eventually see him running over far shorter than the Zetland as a 3yo and this could well bring about the sort of improvement you’re talking about.
October 10, 2021 at 18:07 #1562980Not sure this is often the case with the colts. Can see it with the fillies as AOB always seems to have one recently improve from nowhere.
There wasn’t a standout colt really for a Guineas this year, all of Aidan’s where going close at 2 but not looking exceptional. Godolphin’s didn’t come in with superb claims either.Twitter: Jackh1092
Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!October 10, 2021 at 21:45 #1562989Agreed re bluegrass. Horses who improve dramatically tended to have interrupted seasons and we saw that with tenebrism. Cant say its a vintage 2 y o crop and as has been said it’s 3-1 them turning up. I’m sure Hannon will find one who goes close at a big price. I’d say the dewhurst second is a rapidly improving horse and would be my one to keep an eye on. Wouldn’t be surprised to see big priced winners of both next year’s guineas.
October 10, 2021 at 22:52 #1562992Sea The Stars won a G2 as a 2yo, the Beresford.
BUY THE SUN
October 11, 2021 at 03:38 #1562997Yup. For sure! Just like Pinatubo did…
October 11, 2021 at 06:04 #1562999Native Trail is a completely different profile from Pinatubo who was not overly tall but had a good range. He in no way disgraced himself as a 3yo he just came up against some very good horses one being Palace Pier.
Knowing those facts now you can make that comment but perhaps come back this time next year before writing Native Trail’s 3yo career off. Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 11, 2021 at 09:49 #1563006Forgot sea the stars had won the Beresford. He went of 6th fav in the guineas.Nobody knew he would turn into a champion.
October 18, 2021 at 17:24 #1563900Native trail can only beat what’s in front of him, he’s a decent horse
Think it’s obvious Ballydoyle have a problem and maybe we’ll see lots of improvement from those that have run or maybe few 2 year old’s who haven’t set hoof on racecourse.
October 19, 2021 at 21:40 #1564006I’ve bet Glounthaune for this at 40-1 ew. I was relieved to see him
win at the weekend, and it gives me a glimmer of hope after his very average Dewhurst run.October 20, 2021 at 00:07 #1564014Good luck with Glounthaune Kris he certainly won his last race well and deserves to go into the mix. Down to Group 3 level but a real confidence booster.

Noticed he stumbled at the start of the Dewhurst so who knows how much closer he could have got to Native Trail.
40/1 EW could look very good if he winters well.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 20, 2021 at 22:41 #1564071I like Roger Varian’s Bayside Boy only 2½ lengths 3rd behind Native Trail in the Dewhurst and didn’t have the clearest of runs, before that he just beat Reach For The Moon in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster and seems to be improving with each of his races (around 6/1).
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 20, 2021 at 23:35 #1564073So who do you think is going to win the Futurity on Saturday and possibly make the betting for the Guineas next year?
Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...October 20, 2021 at 23:58 #1564078Godolphin certainly have the top two at the moment. Native Trail and Coroebus don’t quite have the form of Pinatubo going into a Guineas. However, Native Trail’s form and breeding is still excellent and unlike Pinatubo they both have beautiful conformation. Latter making them both (unlike Pinatubo) pretty much nailed on to train on and (again unlike Pinatubo) could well improve their form in 2022.
Been a lot of talk on this thread about which of the two TRFers prefer. Why choose? If someone asked me if it was going to be one of the two or one of the rest? I wouldn’t know which way to go. However, not knowing also means it’s 50 / 50, Evens / Evens… Around 3/1 Native Trail and 6/1 Coroebus means they’re offering 6/4 about what I consider an Even money shot.
Value Is EverythingOctober 21, 2021 at 00:33 #1564081Snowfall on Saturday was Aidan’s 38th straight loser, highly unusual for him and in all probability has a virus in the yard. Although there are one or two signs of better (2 wins from 17 at good prices and some others have run well since)… Unless things really pick up in the next couple of days I’d be against Luxembourg for Saturday. Wouldn’t surprise me if losing at Donny and yet still turns out to be Coolmore’s best chance of Classic glory amongst the 2022 colts. However – by Camelot – appeals far more for the Derby.
Also want to be against the second fav, Royal Patronage. Flattered by the run of the race when beating Coroebus. So for something to make a splash in the Guineas I’d say you’ve made a good call in Bayside Boy, Jac. Or possibly Angel Bleu. However, can’t see anything usurping the Godolphin pair at the front of the market.
Value Is EverythingOctober 21, 2021 at 00:39 #1564082I’m hoping to see Angel Bleu romp into the picture by winning the Criterium International Saint Cloud on Saturday. Looks like a good race (if they all run)
October 22, 2021 at 18:23 #1564262You’ll note we’ve cleaned up this thread a bit, leaving the racing stuff on.
Couple of things, you need a thick skin on this forum and sometimes the comments can be very direct. No problem with straight talking or unpopular views on here.
But, secondly, always on the lookout for the troublemakers whose sole raison d’etre is to prod and provoke so will deal with these as and when they (sadly) appear, less frequently these days but still on our guard.
October 23, 2021 at 11:59 #1564358Nice to know David..thank you.
