Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Hein but it’s looking like Calyx is going Pavilion stakes at Ascot before Commonwealth Cup/Jersey stakes.
I wasn’t enthused by Gosden’s words about TDH either, will work him this weekend then decide if he goes.
Persian King docket could be back on, depending on what the Godolphin lot do in the Craven tomorrow.
April 16, 2019 at 16:57 #1417805Agreed Kev,
If TDH misses Newmarket can see Persian King coming over – depending on the Appleby Z Craven horse.Am a great fan of the favourite, but I’ve laid a bit of my 13/2 back @ 11/4. Although you’d think Calyx might be re-routed here if things don’t go right with TDH… which in turn suggests they think he’ll make it here.
Ten Sovereigns is weak on betfair too compared to his bookmakers odds.
If TDH does not run and Magna Grecia is thought in A1 condition – can see TS missing this for sprinting.Do think the ITV team have got it wrong though. Not that TDH “needs give” in the Guineas itself. Just be best to have at least some give underfoot training the horse after the injury.
Value Is EverythingApril 16, 2019 at 19:11 #1417822It wouldn’t be your fault Kev, so don’t worry
If Gosden is clear in his mind, he should send Calyx here, sprinting would be the terribly wrong decision.
But there is still some hope that he uses the thing under his filthy hat telling him if he wants to have a winning chance here, then take it with Calyx!
As eventually Too Damn Hot will turn out to be what I have kept saying for a long time:
Just an extremely hyped 2 year old..April 16, 2019 at 19:16 #1417823Read a form book, Hein.
Value Is EverythingApril 16, 2019 at 19:19 #1417824Thanks for your advice, old man
You and others may feel free to still believe in the fav,
I haven’t and I will never do
April 16, 2019 at 19:51 #1417830Whatever happens with TDH I am happy in the thought that ADVERTISE is going to turn up for the guineas and that he seems to have grown a bit too!!
No way am I jumping ship as I think his form is top class and the mile will suit him down to the ground!!

Just an extremely hyped 2 year old..’Sorry Hein but that is based against absolutely all evidence we have seen.
April 16, 2019 at 22:45 #1417847I’m not sure on my position on this race.
It really does depend on if TDH and/or Calyx turn up. I’m very keen on the latter but doubt he runs.
If the former makes it, I’d be inclined to trust his fitness and get stuck in to anything north of 6/4
April 16, 2019 at 23:00 #1417849Probably you are right MoM
I’m just fed up with this extreme hype, but the horse himself is not to blame for this
For me it is also a matter of fascination, and I am indeed quite hooked on Calyx and still hope
Gosden allows him to run here to go one better than his dad
We must face the growing danger it won’t happen, but the chance is still there yet..April 16, 2019 at 23:43 #1417859Why is TDN extremely over-hyped then, Hein?
Instead of just repeating it over and over, please explain the form.
Anyone understanding sectionals knows this is the real deal.
Value Is EverythingApril 17, 2019 at 02:22 #1417871Royal Marine was a great bet for the craven tomorrow at 9/4.
I make him about 11/8.
He won a G1 on Arc day and was the second favourite to a maiden winner. I find that baffling.
April 17, 2019 at 07:51 #1417874I’ve backed Magna Grecia 5-1 in case TDH 6-1 don’t make it.
April 17, 2019 at 09:07 #1417880Don’t worry Ginger, it’s not that I don’t understand sectionals, but they are not everything.
From your big and long contributions I know that you are the type who likes to calculate everything,
but sometimes horseracing is much more than Maths!
What I mean with hype I had explained earlier, but especially for you:
TDH showed some good forms as a 2y, but for me they don’t justify these extremely short prices months before,
and to make a 2y old a stallion is even ridiculous to me.
As we know a stallion should at least breed soundness, health and toughness, but if TDH disposes of these qualities is yet to be found out.April 17, 2019 at 10:16 #1417895Gone through the whole thread looking for an explanation of why TDH is over-hyped and can’t find one, Hein.

Please could you could point me too it, as I might learn something.
Value Is EverythingApril 17, 2019 at 10:25 #1417898I still think that Gosden wouldn’t be fair to Calyx as he is probably a bit drunk from the TDH hype himself,
but of course I hope I’m wrong here and we will soon find out.Hein, what would you consider “fair” to Calyx?
Take yourself away from the fact you love Calyx for a second and answer this

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!April 17, 2019 at 10:28 #1417899Its ultimately overhyped ginger as the horses price is based on 2yo form and these horses are now 3yos.
No 3yo can ever be classed a good thing based solely on 2yo form.
April 17, 2019 at 10:41 #1417902I’d be concerned if I was sitting on nice prices for TDH for Guineas, asides from the families frailties (tho obviously exceptionally talented) the one thing always sticks with me and has since Kingman lost his Guineas is Gosden has never had a 2000 Guineas winner.
Now in no way is that anything to do with his ability as a trainer, I think he is exceptional, but these trainers, their creatures of habits, his methodology / regime obviously just isn’t based around getting a 3 year old to be peaking first weekend in May – he manged to get Kingman beat by Night of Thunder in a Guinease, tells me the horse just wasn’t 100% fully tuned / forward on that day
one of Obriens for me for the win
