“Once to Calyx when drawn on the wrong side and still only got beat a length”
Advertise was a length behind Calyx despite Advertise being on the right side of the track and Calyx on the wrong side, Raymo. Calyx beat his side of the track by a considerable margin and it’s highly probable he’d have beaten Advertise by more than a length had the two raced together.
Value Is EverythingMarch 20, 2019 at 14:01 #1402840maybe Advertise and SP got racing to late when the bird (Calyx) had already flown nearside
March 20, 2019 at 14:34 #1402841If wanting to take sectional times in to account, Advertise actually comes out the third best horse in the race. Had all horses run equal fractions Sergei Prokofiev would probably have beaten Advertise too.
Value Is EverythingMarch 23, 2019 at 09:40 #1403039Looks like Ten Sovereigns could be aimed at the race
March 23, 2019 at 13:59 #1403076I suppose it makes sense to run TS in the 2000 Guineas. Seems as though he’s unlikely to stay, but just as well run him just in case and if settling and/or if they go a slow pace favouring speed – you never know.
My pocket hopes he goes for the Commanwealth Cup and TDH wins the Guineas; but TS turning up at Newmarket would be best for the race.
Value Is EverythingMarch 24, 2019 at 09:00 #1403666Aidan would have to be somekind of a genius if Ten Sovereigns were to win this
even a slow pace would more than likely see him pull his chances away such is the speed he travels at.

March 24, 2019 at 14:30 #1403715If AOB had any doubts about this horses stamina then he would not be going for the guineas of that im sure. This guy has trained the guineas winner 9 times in the last 21 yrs, which all different kind of horses. He knows what kind of horse he needs to win so that is good enough for me
March 24, 2019 at 14:52 #1403716Those winners didn’t have sprinter pedigree though
Aidan didn’t have any doubts about Air Force Blue and that horse never went a yard as a 3 y/o and he was a warm order favourite going off odds on.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
March 24, 2019 at 16:52 #1403724AOB had major doubts about Air Force Blue, Nathan.
With a horse who’s Champion two year old and easily won the Dewhurst last time out – ie Done bloody well without a tongue tie… A trainer does not put a first time tongue tie on for the Guineas, without the horse showing something at home to suggest there are doubts about whether he’s going to show that same two year old form.Value Is EverythingMarch 24, 2019 at 17:02 #1403726If AOB had any doubts about this horses stamina then he would not be going for the guineas of that im sure.
AOB will run the horses he believes have the best chance of winning, newyork. So even with TS a probable non-stayer, standard of ability still makes him one of the trainer’s best two chances of winning. ie Even when a probable non-stayer, “probable” does not mean definite; there’s still a chance he’ll stay and if he does has the ability to give TDH a good race and possibly win.
Value Is EverythingMarch 25, 2019 at 10:00 #1404710Finding it hard to find a horse worthy of taking the fav on with. Considered Jash, but having raced solely over 6f i can’t be confident. Given Quorto + Persian King aren’t running, i think Line Of Duty might end up worth a little play. Him and Zakouski are probably Appelby’s runners and he’s improving with every run. Supposedly starting off here after having spent some time in Dubai.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!March 26, 2019 at 11:55 #1405913So it’s possible Line Of Duty heads to France…..Zakouski might well end up “the one” for Appelby

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!March 26, 2019 at 12:51 #1405915Hope I am reading it wrong but between the lines (Gosden interview) it’s going to be touch and go whether Calyx makes it. Fingers crossed he does
March 26, 2019 at 18:57 #1406732I read it as it’s highly unlikely Calyx will be running in the Guineas. To be honest, I think this is Gosden’s way of keeping Calyx and Too Darn Hot apart for that bit longer but he doesn’t want to say that publicly i.e. TDH runs in the Guineas then gets moved up in distance. Calyx is brought out after the Guineas and low and behold they avoid racing against one another.
I hope I’m not reading too much into it but I find it baffling that a trainer of his standing can provide positive updates about Calyx last autumn/winter only to reveal that he’s only just done his first piece of half-speed work last week.
Will be really disappointed if they don’t try to get Calyx back for the Guineas. No one wants him to run Calyx if it could re-injure the horse but if he’s fully recovered, which is what we were previously led to believe, then it sounds like they’ve left it too late to get him fit and ready which is really poor planning. My suspicion is they’re going easy on him in case he hasn’t fully recovered in which case perhaps his previous statement last autum/winter was overly bold.
March 26, 2019 at 18:59 #1406733Why should Calyx not make it?
If he didn’t run here, it would have different reasons, which I would call quite dubious
March 26, 2019 at 19:09 #1406748Hein – I’m just reading between the lines and perhaps I’m guilty of reading too much into Gosden’s comments. I hope I’m wrong. Gosden quoted as saying….
“He is coming back from an injury and hasn’t run since June. You can’t just rush forward – you have got to go very diligently. I’m not going to set a date with him, because that is wrong with a horse like him – coming back from what he has been through.”
March 26, 2019 at 19:49 #1406792Hein as Cheltenham says I am also reading between the lines, with comments like,I am not going to rush, it could be April it could be May etc, just don’t sound too promising. I could well have read it all wrong, for Calyx backers, i hope he turns up
