I think he is priced like that for a few reasons
We don’t know if he returns the same horse pre injury
Too Darn Hot deffo runs in the guineas bar any mishap
Ten Sovereigns looks nailed on to run in the Commonwealth bar any mishap
Calyx has a few question marks regard distance, especially if not getting a prep before the guineas
If he runs in the guineas, how do we feel about him pulling, he has a very fast cruising speed, if the jockey wants to hold him up will he pull or if leading will he hit within the fractions needed to not burn himself out.?

Sure Nathan, but I meant Calyx’ prices for the Commonwealth which are currently very long.
But I can’t say that your points are wrong, maybe I should prepare myself that his chances for the 2000 shrink.
At first I would like to read about his health and then if he wouldn’t get a prep race I would see it as the same old mistake Gosden keeps on making (Cracksman before the derby etc). He surely is a world class trainer, but he really should learn about that..

Calyx is cantering away Hein but that’s about the only info i can get at the moment. As a Guineas backer i’d like some more info also, especially now they’ve released a target for TDH.

Thank you for this good news Kew, as at least it should imply that he is fit and well :good:

Too Darn Hot is also entered in the french 2000, I think he’ll split them, or Calyx goes sprinting.

I’m not so sure about splitting them nwalton. You could be right that Gosden would like
one in either race but I’m not sure that either Loyd Webber or Khalid Bin Abdullah would
want to skip the opportunity of winning a classic just to fit in with his plans. I’d love
to see both go head to head. I hope he doesn’t convince KBA that Calyx should stick to sprint
distances, I think he’s better than that.

I would normally agree with that BigG but if Gosden is adamant that Calyx won’t be beating TDH than Abdullah may go with it. Gosden will say a mile on anything bar good to firm will stretch Calyx’s stamina. He did manage to keep Enable and Cracksman apart and Cracksman owner wanted him to run in those races he didn’t with going being used as the reason he didn’t.

Don’t remind me of that crap, Nathan.
The “management” of Cracksman was a dark chapter in Gosden’s history, and as I wrote above he shouldn’t make this very mistake again. By the way I am convinced he only did this to protect Enable, otherwise it would have been soon over with her invincibility.
I see this a similar case, maybe Gosden will try to protect TDH from Calyx, but Abdullah is a much better and smarter owner than Oppenheimer, and I deeply hope he will never agree with letting destroy the value of his horse.
So I fully go along with BigG`s post, Calyx deserves better than being pushed off to sprinting, and of course the French rubbish will be no realistic target at all!

Was it a mistake though, hein.?
Enable won her races and Cracksman won both Champion Stakes
I think Cracksman could very well have won the Arc with Enable running a little below par on the day and I’m not overly keen on Gosden but he got the results in the end

    Gosden is superb.

Calyx will have a lot to prove on his comeback. Not only whether he can stay the mile, but also, that his ability if retained.

It would be a hell of an effort for him to beat Too Darn Hot in the early season. Remember, Gosden hasn’t a great early season classic record as it is, so there’s every chance Calyx will improve as the season goes on. I very much doubt his season will be focussed around this.

Hope I am wrong for all you Calyx backers but I can see him swerving the 2000. Be that through race fitness or aimed at something else, hope not. Btw it’s not because have backed TDN I have yet to play in the race

Sounds like there’s more chance of him running than i expected TBH.
