I would not swap him for anything at this stage m8
October 16, 2017 at 01:20 #1321872Gustav Klimt is a crazy price. Highly unlikely to run until the Guineas now and the form of his last win is stinking the place out to a hellish degree.
The Superlative Stakes has seen one winner (A handicap off 83) and that winner has been beaten in three handicaps since. Runner up Nebo has lost four times since, the latest at 4/11 Fav in a three horse race in France. The third horse, Great Prospector, failed in two sales races and got pumped in the Dewhurst.
That’s your lot then, one winner, in a Handicap, from 20 runs to come from the Superlative. Will probably line up after ten months off the track, and the form devalued further still, the horse had a reported small tear in a muscle recently. He is probably about a stone behind US Navy Flag now. 5/1 Fav for the Guineas with one firm?. That’s got to be nonsense.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Took another bit of the 40/1 around for kenya
October 29, 2017 at 22:52 #1324096I like Kenya too ham but have only backed him for the Derby, good luck with him he looks one to follow next season.

Mightily impressed by Roaring Lion’s run in the Racing Post Trophy yesterday where he came with a blistering turn of foot to take the race but threw it away by jinking left and bumping Saxon Warrior in the final throws of the race. Hopefully John Gosden will train that out of him in the months to come and this horse just screams 2000 Guineas, you just have to look at his form and experience of the Rowley Mile and I’m really excited about his chances.
Took 25/1 with Bet Victor straight after the race and put him in Pat’s ante post tipping compy, now he’s confirmed to run and is as low as 10/1 with Ladbrokes.
Long way to go but this will get me through those long winter months of waiting until the flat starts again in earnest. Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 8, 2018 at 12:09 #1341244Thought I would retrieve this thread from page 8 and try to keep it closer to the front with any news leading up to the race.
There is a chance that the Guineas trials in France may be switched from Maisons-Laffitte because of flooding problems and could take place at Deauville instead.
The Prix Imprudence and Prix Djebel have sometimes produced contenders for the Newmarket Guineas as well as the French versions.
Unbeaten Sacred Life, who had been due to run once more (Saint Cloud) last season, was scuppered by the strike that saw the meeting unable to go ahead. It has been reported that he could possibly go to the Djebel before a tilt at the Newmarket Guineas.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 8, 2018 at 12:28 #1341245I have not given up on Verbal Dexterity yet,now that steve has brought the thread up, I think I will have a wander up to the ‘book’s and have a few shillings ew at 20s( have to cos I thought 16s was big lol)
I’m with Jac (but not at the prices she has nabbed) will through a few pennies ew Roaring Lion 10s. Hope they hold onto him a bit longer, the obvious worry is the hanging left esp with the cut away, but at tens he’ll do as my only other bet.
Don’t normally play AP but getting into the swing of the flat season now.Counting down the days to my annual trip to York dante meeting, although did the Ebor last year and for this old boy it was to busy. lol
February 9, 2018 at 00:32 #1341338Interesting to ponder how many O’Brien will send and whether they will have prep run?
I reckon Saxon Warrior goes straight to the race, en route to the Epsom Derby.
Gustav Klimt is one I would prefer to see have a prep run, because he has been away from the game for a wee while now.
US Navy Flag has had a lot of racing and I feel some of these will improve past him, the final furlong may also be a problem for him. I would think they go straight there with him and then form plans for the rest of the season depending on how he runs.
Roaring Lion is probably a shade under-rated here. He’ll get the trip and comes after an excellent second in the Racing Post Trophy. His form is stronger than Gustav Klimt at this stage and he looks solid enough as a threat to all here.
Expert Eye is a big question after his dismal effort in the Dewhurst and would be bigger but for being a warm favourite for long enough. Not recommended for my money until we see something positive coming forth.
Wootton looked special to me on his two starts so far and has won at the mile looking as if he could drop a furlong without a problem. Has won on varying going and just looks the type with a potent turn of foot. With Godolphin not having much else looking capable I feel he will come over for the race and he’s unexposed, not too much to find and I see value at double the odds of some of them.
I’m on at 16/1 for my first proper bet on the race.
Wootton 16/1 win only. The trainer seems excited about him. I may be too come Guineas day.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 9, 2018 at 01:03 #1341340Roaring Lion (10/1) and Elarqam (16/1) both of interest to me – just not sure if Elarqam is better suited to the Derby for which he’s 25/1
February 16, 2018 at 13:31 #1342505as steve was saying (now confirmed) Djebel and Imprudence have been moved to Deauville
February 16, 2018 at 14:25 #1342509Elarqam should have this as a first target, his breeding is so suited to the race it’s unbelievable (Attraction and Frankel). I’m on at 16/1.
February 16, 2018 at 16:24 #1342521Elarqam is impeccably bred and unexposed. I thought he was a good bet for the G3 Tattersalls and duly stuck a few quid on him. I felt he won in pretty straight-forward fashion that day and he’s clearly very promising.
The concerns for me start with the fact that the Tattersalls has nothing to speak of in terms of winners going on to win the Guineas. I am also a bit concerned about the quality of the latest renewal. Tangled has been stinking Meydan out this year and it doesn’t look a good piece of form.
The other major worry is the trainer. Mark Johnston is usually quantity over quality and even then it’s like the Enigma Code trying to fathom when to back them. It never seems a straight-forward journey and plenty promising debutantes seem to flop next time.
Regarding the Derby, I don’t think Elarqam looks that sort of horse at all. He’s a big unit, who seems to be a point and shoot type who runs with the choke out most of the way. I doubt Epsom would suit at all and I can’t see him staying judging by how he runs. If anything I would say he may do well sprinting.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 16, 2018 at 16:53 #1342523Time to get on Expert Eye IMO…
February 19, 2018 at 08:45 #1343004I’m on…. at 7/2……
with Harry Kane for top scorer and Man City to win the league.February 24, 2018 at 22:23 #1343885I had enough on Expert Eye to cover my earlier bets if he wins it. Typically, he flopped and went out in the betting.
This year’s Guineas does not seem to be inspiring anybody and I wonder if there is a mediocre renewal ahead of us?
Perhaps it’s another Camelot year ahead and a Derby contender can pop up and prove fast enough. I won’t mind that, as long as it’s Saxon Warrior who proves the one to take advantage.
There has been next to no movement in the market and we are only 4 weeks from the Lincoln. Typically there seems little information on the French contenders and it seems punters seem to have nothing they want to get involved with yet.
It seems ripe for whatever Ryan Moore rides on the day to be a warm enough favourite as the old “O’Brien’s the one for me” panacea will be the most popular choice to solve the conundrum.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
February 25, 2018 at 09:55 #1343921Tip Two Win won again yesterday in Doha and will be aimed at the 2000. Ran well, but well held by Elarqam in The Somerville last september
