That’s positive news about Broadway Boy. I honestly thought he wasn’t going to get up after fall.
That was awful fall by Broadway Boy, which will probably be part of the narrative on the news later.
Just googled it and got the following (it was a horse called Commercial Flyer)
For someone that has won the race three times in the last seven years and having only the one runner in the race today, it has to be Wendrock.
Slightly off tack but i put a football bet on with Ladbrokes yesterday and one of the matches was shown as void, so they settled this as a non-runner; i then used some of these to put some bets on for Cheltenham. I now find that the match is taking place today and because of that Ladbrokes have now taken back my returns and it’s left me in the red. I now just have to hope that this match goes the way i want it, otherwise i’ll have to have a painful conversation with them because i don’t think i can deposit anything for Cheltenham with a negative balance.
Awful news and totally shocked. Words are inadequate but Rest In Peace.
Rest in peace Sir. Unrelated to this I was actually thinking of Shergar yesterday and the Peter Bromley commentary; think i’ll have to revisit it and marvel at the 81 Derby again and also at the wonderful Zarkava.
RIP John. You owned some fantastic horses and I still have a picture of One Man on my bedroom wall.
Fair play BigG. To me it’s a two horse race that will keep me involved after i’ve done my money on Day 2!
Just listened to this for the first time and know Tommo is prone to making mistakes but this sounds like there’s something more to this. Can understand him getting names mixed up but he’s actually lost and struggling for words. What was the rest of the commentary like?
Same but it was much better than the 12.00!
I hope so Wilts, as I always enjoy the Welsh National.
From Harry Cobden this afternoon in reference to the David Power rubbish:
“It’s a great initiative for the jockeys” Of course it is for the likes of you, Skelton, De Boinville etc. There’s only three or four jockeys that can possible win this, so the rich get richer. At random, this is not going to benefit the likes of Stan Sheppard, David Noonan, Craig Nichol, Patrick Wadge etc.Haven’t got an opinion on the race as yet but just like to congratulate Shloer on their continued sponsorship of this race, especially in recent years when you look at the size of the fields there have been. I don’t know how long their sponsorship is in place for but you wouldn’t have blamed them for pulling out by now.
And I do hate it when the trainer turns round and says “at the end of the day he’s an apprentice”. What difference does that make? To me it should have the opposite effect, insomuch that you don’t want to make mistakes so you may ride out the horse more than you should, especially if you’re trying to impress and pick up outside rides.
To his credit Oli Bell raised this on ITV.
No excuse whatsoever. If I was a jockey (admittedly putting several pounds overweight) and especially a conditional, I’d have a reference point, which, aside from the lollipop would tell me I’ve gone past the finishing line.
