..this one’s a bit of a laugh…

..I also prefer the British system, this just totally ruined what was a great finish, and besides, the French are not always so rigid….otherwise Dylan Thomas wouldn’t have kept the Arc would he…and took them 30 minutes to reach the decision…
lol !..Drone..shocking !… I wonder if that makes her right or left handed..?
..I think the dog has the right idea…
.lol.!… I quite like him…
..what is she doing with her left hand..?….
oh..pulling a pump…
..I’m not sure I wanted to know that Drone…lol…
…I see there is a Steward’s Enquiry…presumably placings will remain unaltered…
..but perhaps he’d like to give it back…should they do an ‘Ian Smith’…Part 3

It wasn’t you Ugly Mare who Jon and Michael use to chat up?
..been many things but never a bar maid… the chap in the back seat sounds quite nice…
The irony is that the overwhelming majority of the Scots who voted NO more than likely support any football team who play England – and that will never change.

…it’s for reasons such as this, and all jokes aside, that these days I prefer the Polish people, in the main. They have little in the way of historical beef with us, theirs is mainly with the Russians or other neighbours…
..in fact, it would probably horrify some to know that, during the recent World Cup, working in retail as I do, I sold Union Jacks to Polish young men, and many of the Polish families enjoyed the Royal Jubilee celebrations going on here earlier…
..personally I find them to be a refreshing change, and welcome their presence in the UK…
…so this is Democracy?
these are the people who could have voted:-”It doesn’t matter where you were born but you do need to be living in Scotland now. You also need to be a British, Irish, other European Union or qualifying Commonwealth citizen”
…but not living in England, Wales or Northern Ireland…
that’s not democratic, that’s exclusive, it’s elitist…it’s privilege… you were privileged to be able to vote on a serious issue that affected all of us in our country, the United Kingdom…
..it’s surprising that the Scottish, who generally are known for their dislike of privilege, seemed quite happy to go along with this…
..a few thousand Poles, recently arrived, with no other connection to the UK, could vote, whereas the rest of us with long term investments, could not…
..and you call this Democratic..?
I have no time for secession… no more than Abraham Lincoln did…I believe in a strong central Government… and I would ask any ‘yes’ voter… what do you think the 20th Century would have been like, how our lives here in Europe would have unfolded, without a United States….?
I’m very surprised to read you were a ‘yes’ voter… that you threw common sense out of the window in favour of absurd patriotism favouring a venture into the unknown.. a venture that, I see as selfish, self centred nationalism, that is inward driven, thinking only of itself and caring nothing for the rest of the UK population who would also have been very likely adversely affected…
I see a ‘yes’ vote as nothing to be proud of, moreso coming from a racing person.
Common sense prevails, at least from the Scots, (if not from Westminster), which I think is something intrinsically British and to be proud of, even though we seem to be gradually losing it, especially in England, given recent events in Rotherham and suchlike… and this referendum, which I think should never have been called has only served to bring out the worst in so many people…
…however, I do think the Scots are essentially Nationalist at heart, which I think would be considered irrational, nonsensical even, to most in England…and the Yes voters would have got a majority if it wasn’t for fears about the economy.
..a post-referendum poll of 2000 people found that nearly 50 percent of ‘No’ voters did so because of concerns over Scotland’s economic prospects, the NHS etc…as opposed to any affection for, or attachment to the UK…
..I think we know where we stand…
..that Treve had a nice easy race today. Jarnet did nothing on her, and didn’t need to win it, it’s only about one race with Treve.
Yes, that narrow defeat, ricked back and getting beaten by horses rated a stone and a half lower are the ideal prep trio of runs for the Arc.
Maybe this is a Barney Curley type of coup in progress. Watch her odds dip from 10/1 to Evens by sun-up

..you don’t need to win the Vermeille to win the Arc..
..last year Treve beat Wild Coco and Tasaday 1-3/4L and 3-1/2L… how close do you think they’d have got in the Arc..?

..this is what I can’t remember Stilvi, whether it was Kempton or racing specific or not, but according to Patriots post above and others, it seems to have been so, but that doesn’t lodge in my memory… I always thought that we couldn’t watch the t.v. without putting money in…but very possibly I misunderstood the whole thing…. we couldn’t have had this for long, perhaps only a few months, which might explain my confusion… sorry can’t help you any better here..
We were amongst those that had Pay Tv in the 60’s, but as mentioned above, I don’t remember it lasting very long either, but was annoyed on occasions as we had no money to put in the box and I couldn’t see the race I wanted.
This might have been the Kempton meetings at Christmas… I don’t remember that exactly, but my father was really annoyed by not having the money, so I think it may have been when Salmon Spray won [?] what is now the Christmas Hurdle in 1965 [?]… guessing here a bit… as Salmon Spray was his favourite horse of the time… all a bit vague..
Alternatively, I just might have wanted to watch ‘I Love Lucy’..I remember David Robinson, who later became a rich racehorse owner, was very much involved with rental t.v. and it might have been one of his initiatives, but I’m speculating there. He made millions. Had lots of horses with Michael Jarvis in the late 60’s…. in the Horses in Training annual I remember him as being one of the foremost owners at the time.
3 Channels then were better than over 100 today,… in my opinion… it was quality, not quantity, apart from the awful summer interference, where the reception was almost unwatchable…
..but doesn’t this put you off the land that you love, Drone..? I mean, 1 in 2 people there want out, and it seems to have nothing to do with the economy. Prepared to do so without a currency…
I find that depth of feeling unsettling for now, and to be truthful, I won’t be holidaying there again, even if the ‘No’s’ win… and I’m sorry about that…had some lovely holidays in Scotland…..perish the thought…never quite understood the attraction in Kate Bush…nor Blondie for that matter…
…Nationalism is such an ugly thing…I can’t abide it… best let Scotland go their own way and hope that we here do not pick up this contagion…
..well, I’m rather glad we didn’t move there after all..
Too many seem to be showing their true colours and it’s not very nice.old thread…but quite relevant today. ‘Lekha’, who I think is the lady that is now Clerk of the Course at Warwick, was quite insightful here I think…amongst others…
