Yes, that was stated by PN when Ruby made the choice last week. Should kauto not make it then Ruby would ride Denman since he is the stable jockey

    irish-racing.com:

Kicking King was 13-lengths back in third but afterwards his trainer Tom Taaffe remained upbeat, "They have gone a real good gallop on tacky ground and he has jumped as good as he ever has on that ground.

"Obviously I would be much happier if he won but if he is fine after this it is onwards to the Gold Cup. Barry (Geraghty) said he would come on for the run and I said I was training him for one day and I still am."

i do remember a certain king george winner being all but ruled out of the 2005 Gold Cup before reentering the picture only weeks before hand – he went on to run quite well if i remember correctly :D

    ….here’s hoping Kauto makes it

    hopefully its an over reaction

i would imagine that the fetlock is now swollen and needs to be treated/iced over night and p nicholls is hoping that the swelling will go down and that the horse puts it under his weight..fingers crossed but it could be a few days before we know our faith..fingers crossed as this would rob cheltenham/nh histroy of somethign spectacular…typical of our sport though

the fact that he is continuing to drift on betfair is now suggesting the worst….backed at 5.5

though it wouldnt be the first time that punters have over reacted on betfair

This would be disastorous. It depends on how bad the sprain is and if the tendons have been effected much

Wouldnt they be better off running DPI in a handicap rather then ruining his mark against horses on level weights.

It is the festival and the Festival/ryanair chase is now a big one but I would have thought a more suitable target could be sought for a horse who is still merely a novice. Not sure hwta else he could run in though. The grand annual might be a little fast and the Racinpost chase is over 3 miles

Is Don’t push it going to run before the festival?

I thought ‘ZAARITO’ was very impressive over the weeked. It looked like useful bumper and was travelling very well turning for home. 3rd bumper win which is a rare occurence – though many bumper winners dont run that often

I’m thinking of going on Saturday, but only if kauto Star runs

Anytime I have watched national Hunt racing at Ascot on tv it has looked quite dean with the crowd very far removed from the racing..Anyone been there this season?

Is it worth the trip? Kauto Star apart

This is a fascinating thread in my opinion

For me I still think it will be Kauto – I just can’t get his king george win out of my head. He just demolished high class horses

I was dissapointed with Denman in the Lexus but having watched it since I think he was better then what I thought. They didnt go much of a gallop and they really sprinted from the second last. No doubt he is a class act but to beat kauto fair and aquare then willm need to be one fo the greats, a machine. Maybe he is but its a huge ask

Gold Cup will be amazing not least the build up on the day. The good steady pace I think will suit Kauto, for me its when a sudden injection of pace is thrown in to the race that kauto starts to panic. This year he has jumped great expecially in the betfair and King George and see no reason why a nice even gallop should not suit him.I just hope Denman doesn’t burn himself out before they turn for home

Can’t have Snowy Morning for the National this season either after that, just looks a little too novicey still. Just guessed too mush at his fences and look like he could take a howler if he does that at aintree.

I do think that 12/1 (16s on betfair) or so about Exotic dancer is too big a race for such a talented horse. What this does tell us is that we are in for one helluva race if a quality horse like that is not in single figures

I would prefer to have ane ach way bet on him rather then take the same price on either of the big 2 to win (although i think i will saviour the race rather then taint it with a bet)

I would love for kicking king to be back to his best however the form of his return to the racetrack has not been upheld since. Both Newmill and nicname were dissapointing for me. You can even tie in Nicknames form with the poor runs of schindlers hunt and Mansony at cheltenham.

Time will tell in few weeks and providing they all get there safely it will be a joy to watch the tactics of the race as it unfolds. I think the buzz at cheltenham that day will be immense

All season Katchit has struck me as a horse that will be very hard to keep out of the first 4 in the champion – however he has never looked to me like the winner. We know he’s game, will stay up the hill and is very consistent -he is probably the most reliable hotse in the field

I do however think that triumph hurdle horse get a little over rated as the horses that they race against are generally not as good as the main novice hurdles. A bit like the brit insurance hurdle, or whatever its called now, the winner may wll be over rated due to lack of strength in the opposition – or course both races can still thro up a champion but the form of the majority of the fields generally doesn’t stack up in the subsequent seasons

I certainly hope Katchit runs well but would really like to see him improve quite a bit to be a justified winner – maybe he can!

    Good luck Katchit!!

Cheers guys and thanks for the links!!

I’m particularily intrested in a large print of the picture above so can someone please contact me if they come across it. I’m aware of paintings where the edges are faded but I would prefer it as it is in the photo

not to stray off the topic but the first 3 races at the 2004 Cheltenham festival were something special

    Supreme –
    1) Brave Inca
    2) War of attrition (Is it just me or did he never seem to not show, although a hell of a good chaser, the same turn of foot again when he went chasing)

    Arkle –
    1) Well Chief
    20 Kicking King

    3) Ch Hurdle
    Hardy Eustace

The winners of the next 2 Champion hurdles and Gold Cups as well as a great Chamopion Chaser in Well Chief

hmmm..i have to say I’m against him running in the Grand National

If he did run I think he would have a very good chance as he has the touch of class, is quite game to be be able to carry a lofty weight, will stay and well he tends to jump slow and deliberate as opposed to make mistakes so he might school around for the first circuit. I don’t think he need soft as he easily won the punchestown gold cup on fast ground.

I know some of you may say I’m contradicting myself but despite all of the above I think that the tragedy, if we were to lose him to the national, would be horrendous. He has one 10 grade 1’s or so and I still feel that such a class of animal deserves a sound retirement and be enjoyed by connections for the next 10years as opposed to risking him in a National etc

However he isn’t my horse so what will be will be…

I’m sure this debate would be fascinating if he was declared to run – would be very interesting to see if the pundits and public would take to him
