The injury Inglis Drever sustained (I don’t know the severity, but in general) would be more than enough to end the career of any lesser animal.
8 weeks is more than enough to get him fit, but not enough time to truly get over the injury(imo).
Its very rare you get a warning with horses, and I have always believed that when you do you should take note.
I’d love to see him race again, but hope that connections are sure that whatever they are doing is going to come off.Yes you’re right, although I didn;t say that pin firing them didn’t work, just that it was a waste of time. Its the time that does the ehaling, and pin firing has always seemed a drastic action where shins are concerned, to me.
The one good thing about pin firing shins is that it forces people to give the horse time off, which is preferable to the trainers who think that because you can’t feel them after they have been iced for 20 mins, they are not there.Beckster,
Some vets will still pinfire sore shins.
Gerald,
Tendons are commonly pin or bar fired, as are splints.Pin firing is a waste of time and money for shins or splints, as is blister, as time will heal both. Plenty of horses have been trained, raced and won with sore shins, but they will go elsewhere at some point.
We’ve always given 3 months in the field for sore shins, and they never return.
The only time they ever re-occur in an older horse is when they return from tendon injury.Wouldn’t even put her in training – look at those knees!
Hi cheekster, im looking for an ex racehorse that will be able to hunt, xc, hack etc. Im not bothered about colour or sex, as long as its sound, a ‘nice’ animal and is 16 hands plus.
They would both suit, apart from that the one isn’t 100% yet, and the other is 15hh
.
I do know of a horse that would fit the bill, not a mark on him and ridden by the trainers 12 yo daughter. He’s been roughed off since his last run a few weeks ago, but I dare say you can try him. I think the trainer wants about £1k for him. Let me know if you want the phone number. The whole system is riddled with anomalies – I could give chapter and verse on a horse with a leading trainer that reverted to fences this year and was entered for a handicap despite it’s published official mark being 4lbs above the maximum for the race. Weatherbys rang to inform the trainer his horse wasn’t qualified, to which he replied ‘I spoke to the handicapper last week and he agreed to drop the rating so I could run in this race’.
The horse ran with top weight and won.
The trainer must have better powers of persuasion than most – the old man tries that one all the time and it never works!
Hi Dave,
What sort of horse are you after, I have a couple available. Its so hard to tell from afar, even from a confo pic – you really need to stand them up and take a look from the front and behind.
‘Perfect’ horses from our yard would be Cheveton(bit long in the back for some maybe), Desert Lover, Alasil(neck set on a bit high for some), April The Second.
The nicest horse I have seen for a long time is the aforementioned NH bred yearling, he is near perfect apart from very slight roach back, which I would see as a bonus in any case.Bone is ,techinically, the measurement around the leg a couple of inches below the knee.
Horses with more bone can carry more topline easily, cope with firm ground (although it is usually the no boners that want it!), and stick more racing.
If this filly looks like this as a yearling, imagine her in a year or so – would be like putting a keg of beer onto 4 matchsticks.
Can’t say i’ve ever noted Zarkava’s looks, but I am not against ‘no bone’ as such, I just like it to be relative.
I’ve got 2 yearlings out in the field, 1 NH and 1 flat bred. They would be a perfect example of this as the NH gelding is a tank on tree trunks, and the flat filly is a whippet on matchsticks (both very tall). I’ll see if I have any photos laterz.Physically, there is a difference between ‘forward’ and ‘grossly heavy topped’.
She is a smashing looking filly, but too much top and not enough bone – she will not stick much racing and I wouldn’t have her for £500.
Personally, I use forward in terms of straightness(as in not green), attitude and fitness.I’m not far from Ludlow, and we have had frosts and rain here the last few nights. Yesterday we couldn’t even use the ‘all-weather’, and my car was covered in ice by 6pm last night.

Jockey soother only.
Wouldn’t it be ironic if Sundays headlines were.
"Master Minded defeated as Super-Sub Sam gives Noland a perfect ride to snatch victory" ?
This would be even better:
”Master Minded defeated as Super-Sub Sam gives Noland a perfect ride to snatch victory, before telling Nicholls to stick his job up his a55.”Chin up Sammy Snake, people tried saying AP couldn’t ride not so long ago.
Tirley Gale and Tirley Storm both raced on the same card at Fakenham one day. One is by the other, and I think one of them won if not both.
Withybrook lass and Broadbrook lass (dam) raced on the same card at Brampton Bryan once, i’m sure Jeremy will remember if they won or not.Thats what I thought, but apparently there are ideal places for drainage dykes that can be redirected.
Don’t ask me where, I don’t know!I heard that Arena have had the experts in and that there is a way to fix the problem, but they are not prepared to do it unless the council sell the land to them.
