Thanks Ginger, I will probably need it. I did notice that you have also turned it around since Royal Ascot. Food for thought.

That’s more a question for those who will be betting on plenty of the fodder and losing. Tomorrow, I have just had two bets, this one without the favourite which is pretty speculative, and the race at Deauville which I am quite hopeful about. It could easily have been none. As I said elsewhere I clawed the Royal Ascot money back betting on tennis/racing and have perhaps been a little too cautious since, missing a couple of nice price winners. It will be a struggle for me to even find 3-4 for the competitions on here.

That’s just four races out of how many, and just because a race has a classification doesn’t mean they are up to a general standard. The Eclipse itself centres around one horse.

You could be excused for thinking tomorrow is a bank holiday given the number of meetings on offer. Needless to say it’s nearly all bookmaker fodder. When isn’t it?

I had vowed to avoid See The Fire like the plague after her abysmal effort in the Guineas. She ran a bit better in the Coronation, and I am pinning my hopes here on the extra distance being a big plus. That together with the opposition not being anything special. So an each-way dart without the favourite.

Agree with the negative comments about Stewart above.

I normally watch a fair bit of the election results, but last night didn’t bother. All sides made a real song and dance/or tried to, of the obvious. It was as tedious as the campaign itself.

Standout result for me is that 21% actually voted for a party who have racked up a massive majority. 4/5 People didn’t have enough faith to vote for them. That shouldn’t sit well with anyone.

The only ‘good thing’ about the present system was keeping Farage and his right-wing cronies down to 4 seats.

Those that did vote just voted against the Tory party, not for anything of note promised by Starmer. I hate to think it was the antics of Ed Davey that inspired the Liberal result. What an absolute chump he looked this morning. Sadly, another sign of our dumbed down times.

No idea why he didn’t hang on for as long as possible, but I do have some sympathy for Sunak. Given Johnson, Truss, Covid, and the Ukraine war it would have needed something akin to a miracle to turn things around.

The in-fighting – which will no doubt continue – and the potential lurch to the right has been unwanted distraction. Then followed Reform’s intervention in an attempt to hoover up the far right’s votes.

He hasn’t been in charge that long, but at least he has got the ecomony back on track.

D-Day was the only obvious mistake he made during the campaign, but in reality the writing was already on the wall.

I felt he out performed a very wooden, and cautious Starmer in the head to heads, but seems to have counted for very little. I doubt the campaign in general has seen much mind changing.

Starmer has banged on and on about change. Yes, he has changed the Labour party to something unrecognisable to try and get them elected. The performance of a weasel type character, not to be trusted. Does that contrived change extend to the population?

Will the boat saga get any better?

Will the NHS & Care situation improve?

What will happen to public services?

I would have big doubts about all of those. This has very much a feel of change for change’s sake. Labour can’t be any worse, can they? The vast majority who longed for Brexit are no better off, and I think this could well up with exactly the same scenario.

If I had to make a list of the most tedious sports to watch, I would have formula one and cycling right at the top.

I would just ask if there is any greatness associated with the sport isn’t it bestowed on those who actually win the event.

Even though I haven’t followed the sport I had heard of Eddie Merckx from a very young age. Surely his achievements are on a different planet to Cavendish?

Another easy win for England to complete a 3-0 win in the ODI series. Sciver-Brunt strolled to a not-out fifty, barely taking a risk. New Zealand got England four down quite cheaply, but hadn’t anything like the quality to press home a decent position. This happens too often with bat and ball. They made a few more runs this time against an England minus Ecclestone, but depressingly the majority of those runs came from Kerr, Devine and Bates.

Five T20’s to come. Will England go 13-0 over the two series? It wouldn’t too big a surprise, but obviously, New Zealnd should have a better chance in the shorter form.

Gauff has had a very easy draw. I am hoping she is in for a very nasty shock in a couple of rounds time.

Wolvaardt duly completed her century, but once she departed, there was minimal resistance and the home side knocked off the runs to win by 10 wickets, and gain another impressive win. I have a feeling that India have now moved ahead of England as the main opponents to Australia. South Africa are fourth in line, but as these results indicate there is a very big gap to the top three.

Why? It’s you that quoted the past as evidence, so surely the future is an unknown. What I said was true, but for some strange reason you have decided to have a little pop.

In my eyes it’s a rubbish choice. As a long time Labour voter, I should be cheering, but I’m not.

Deja vu in the second ODI with England demolishing New Zealand again. It would have been even easier, but for a contrived finish enabling Bouchier to complete a century. New Zealand used Rowe as the scapegoat for the first defeat, but were just as bad. They appear to be at rock bottom, and in need of radical rebuild. They are playing with fear, and a total lack of confidence. Of course Bates and Devine are first names on the teamsheet, but what difference are they making beyond clogging up two places which could be used to blood new players? It might help long term if both of them stepped aside now.

In the one-off test between South Africa and India having been forced to follow on the tourists are making a decent fist of trying to save the game. On the verge of a century Wolvaardt is probably the key to achieving the draw. Mandhana had earlier registered her third century in four innings. The cricket here is a different level to that being played out in this country.

As I said people are voting on the basis ‘things couldn’t be any worse’. They have zero evidence that will be true.

It’s not a very fair comparison. Piggott was a part of a different age when jockey’s were not expected to answer questions straight after a race. He also wasn’t very fluent, and consequently, a man of few words at the best of times.
