Another easy win for England to complete a 3-0 win in the ODI series. Sciver-Brunt strolled to a not-out fifty, barely taking a risk. New Zealand got England four down quite cheaply, but hadn’t anything like the quality to press home a decent position. This happens too often with bat and ball. They made a few more runs this time against an England minus Ecclestone, but depressingly the majority of those runs came from Kerr, Devine and Bates.

Five T20’s to come. Will England go 13-0 over the two series? It wouldn’t too big a surprise, but obviously, New Zealnd should have a better chance in the shorter form.

South Africa hit back to beat India in the opening T20 yesterday. India poor with the ball, and in the field enabling South Africa to rack up up a big score. It could have been very close to 200 had they not stuttered in the last two overs. All seemed to be going well for India until the opening partnership was broken. The rate slowed, and Mandhana threw her wicket away. Rodrigues made a very good fifty, but they never really looked as if they could pull the rate back. A very good first win for captain Wolvaardt.

Fearing the worst for today’s T20 opener.

Unfortunately, for New Zealand the rain stayed away from Southampton, and they suffered yet another humiliating defeat. England played four spinners, but it wouldn’t have made much difference who they selected. Had their fielding been sharper the margin would have been even greater. New Zealnd are supposed to be the fourth best team, but in reality they are probably closer to eighth. In addition to the lack of quality, the benefit of Devine as captain is questionable to say the least. Today she put England in, and they nearly made 200. She doesn’t seem to be inspiring anything but fear.

Second T20 between South Africa and India washed out after the tourists again posted a decent score. It could have been better having been 66/1 after the powerplay the Indian spinners led by Deepti wrestled back control, but this time South Africa made the most of last two overs scoring 31 runs. Right now they are way ahead of New Zealand, and it will be interesting to see what they achieve at the World Cup. A shame for them that Ismail didn’t stick around for another year.
