Ryan is a great jockey and a really nice guy, who laughs and jokes with his fellow riders in the weighing room. He is not at all swollen headed and very down to earth. He can assess how a horse is going and get the best out of him. He rides a very strong finish, using his whole body so if the horse has the ability he gets it out of them.
He has a brilliant Coolmore team behind him which he acknowledges and gels with well. You cannot compare him to brilliant jockeys in the past, Cauthen, Eddery and Fallon because their style of riding was different back then. Lester was a legend, but also was a very rough rider in his early days to his fellow jocks as there were no cameras everywhere back then. Imagine Lester being grilled by a camera thrust in his face after winning. What would you punters be saying about him !!!

That he’s more loquacious than Ryan.

100% edfiggyrock. I have often thought about the consequences of thrusting a microphone in Piggott’s face after a race on live TV. If it had been technologically possible, I reckon it would have been a short-lived experiment!

It’s not a very fair comparison. Piggott was a part of a different age when jockey’s were not expected to answer questions straight after a race. He also wasn’t very fluent, and consequently, a man of few words at the best of times.

I think Ryan Moore is a sraight out gent . Always give it straight up , just does the job . And its a pressure job with breeding values at stake . Aussies love Purton , Bowman , J Mac but look at where they ride , same tracks day in day out in the main . J Mac travels a bit but nothing like Moore , not same ballpark .

I take it that you’re not familiar with the infamous Derek Thompson interview immediately after Teenoso had won the 1983 Derby.

I don’t remember it, though I would have been watching. Is there a clip?

I can only presume it is this, from 17.50.

The more I know the less I understand.
