Jollyp, Shaftesbury Avenue wasn’t a squib. Ran 2nd in a Japan Cup, he also won the G1 George Main Stakes (1990), Emirates Stakes (1990), Lightning Stakes (1991), Newmarket Handicap (1991), All-Aged Stakes (1990), Caulfield Stakes (1991). In regards to Kingston Town, won 30 from 40 starts. At his best no horse in the world would have beaten him but ran on three legs for most of his career. His win in the BMW (Tancred Stakes) at a mile and a half at 3YO was just unbelievable.

Looking at the silks for Lord Dewar, his silks were White, tartan cross. My First thought was it could be a cross of St George, ala Mill Reef (Paul Mellon) but finding a pic of Lord Dewar’s Tudor Minstrel his silks were White with a Tartan X (hence cross).

The latest update on BC is that trainer Peter Moody has sent her to the paddock to freshen up for a month then bring her back for possibly two Group 1 races. The first being the G1 Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville in South Australia over 1200m (April 28) then possibly the G1 BTC Cup at Doomben in Queensland over 1350m (May 12). Moody wants her in England 3 weeks before the Diamond Jubilee. I

    Welcome Blackbarn.
Isinglass and Invanjica have been stalwarts and put a lot of time and effort into this thread and appreciate everything they have done.
It’s very unique and may I say bloody brilliant.
Thanks so much for your input. Much appreciated.

Trainer Peter Moody seems to have had a bit of time to sleep on it after Saturday’s win. He said Sunday morning he may have been a bit premature in saying the Futurity was out for BC. Moody added, she pulled up great, eat her feed bin clean and looked none the worse for wear. He said that he will nominate her on Monday for the Futurity and sit down with the owners on Tuesday to decide on a start.

Moody said after the race highly unlikely she’ll run in the Futurity because she had a fairly hard run. Why wouldn’t they take Hay List to UK for the King’s Stand? He’d win that easy. BC for the Diamond Jubilee would be great double for Australia.

Robust debate to say the least. A lot of hyperbole being bandied about. Sounds like we are talking about Australia v England Test match at Lord’s. The way I see it re-Black Caviar v Frankel, it’s like comparing apples to oranges. Let’s all be honest (fair dinkum) about this. Both camps have different agendas. Frankel’s aim is the Eclipse against So You Think and I believe Black Caviar has the Diamond Jubilee and possibly the July Cup as the aim. Digressing for a moment. When both finish racing what chance when Frankel becomes a sire and Black Caviar goes to him? How much would that foal be worth????

What I will say on this thread is one thing. Frankel has more to lose then Black Caviar. And here is my reason. Regardless what Black Caviar does now she is valued between $6-8 million as a broodmare. Frankel on the other hand, if he stays unbeaten is worth $50-100 million as a sire, if he loses he’s probably worth $30-50 million. Khalid Abdullah has more to lose.

Black Caviar coming back from 7f to 5f in the G1 Lightning Stks at Flemington on Saturday and meeting her arch rival Hay List who is having his first start since April last year. Probably the best field she has met for a year and attempts to win 19 from 19 and equal the Australasian record. I believe trainer Moody’s train of thought is that he would have given her a 1000m track gallop on Thursday so instead why not go for a G1 and go for $400,000 first prizemoney. Then Feb 25 run in the 7f G1 Futurity Stks at Caulfield. Bookies are betting 1-10, best price she’s been since early last year.

How can you compare the Cesarawitch to the Melbourne Cup and Ascot Gold Cup to the Melb Cup?? To a previous post that the melb Cup will never be on the same scale as the Ascot Gold Cup. Tell him he’s dreaming. The Cesarawitch is 3600m and Ascot Gold Cup 4000m. Please, comparing apples to oranges big time. Ascot Gold Cup winners have come to Australia and get beaten a furlong. Double Trigger, Yeats, and look at ”the best stayer in the world” at the time Septimus, he got a stitch in the straight. The French and Japanese have got it right. They are bringing 13-15 furlong horses to Australia and its paying dividends.

I think we’re drawing a long bow with Sea Bird and Frankel. Sea Bird was supreme at a mile and a half. As for Frankel beating So You Think by 6 lengths over 10f is hyperbole to say the least. If Frankel is beaten in the Eclipse, what then? Do they go back to a mile? Many questions still to be answered on his ‘greatness’.
