I agree. It doesn’t happen just in horse racing but the whole spectrum of the media. Sloppy reporting, lack of getting something right and a certain apathy about doing the correct research leads to blunders every hour of the day. I’ve seen it happen over and over again. Ivanjica ……. it’s called mediocrity!

I am very pleased to see Mr Gibson bring to life his grandfather’s famous silks. An icon of British horse racing. Also good to see Mark Dixon carry on the famous R.D. Hollingsworth silks of Crimson, Silver Braid, who I also believe is related.

Super impressive. Nolen rode her a treat from barrier one. Didn’t want to stay trapped on the fence pulled out wide at the half mile. She looked great in the enclosure before the race. How can they beat her? Little rumour around Moody is keen to win 30 with her. Wouldn’t surprise me. The way she’s going she could win 50.

Yeh, kind of laughed when I heard about this. Ridiculous really. But I also noticed 4-5 years ago a jumper in the UK named Kingston Town. Also in South Africa recently I’ve seen ”another” Takeover Target. Quite a bit of it going on around the world where champions from different countries past and present have had their name ”re-used”. Also a So You Think (Foaled in 2009) by Kahal x Thandiwe. Owners haven’t used much mental foresight.

Jonibake, this is not a political forum. If you want to talk racing, let’s talk racing but please stop the conspiracy crap with politcians et al and using it as a tool. This is about a great horse, let’s leave at at that.

Jonabike, give me proof of drugs in Australian sport and I’ll send you 50 quid. Speculation and hearsay don’t count. And dumping on Australia as a drug riddled sporting nation is offensive to say the least. Aussie bashing. That’s all it is. And you seem of the opinion that whatever the media writes is truth. Heard that a few times ol’ chap.

The real question 30 years on is whether Shergar would have succeeded as a stallion. Could he have become the next Nijinsky or Mill Reef as a sire? Studying his pedigree one would doubt it. He was stoutly bred on his dam side and his sire Great Nephew did sire some very, very good stayers but also some very good 7f-8f horses. What did Derby winners like Teenoso, Henbit, Empery, Slip Anchor do as sires? I suspect he could well have been placed in that category. But we’ll never know.

Jollyp, I agree with you totally. The sports drug scandal was a media event whipped up by hysteria and a government that was intent to do anything it could to take the heat off them over the Peter Slipper and Craig Thomson scandals. We don’t have a skeric of evidence to support this. Hearsay, speculation etc, has done nothing to support the facts. The Australian media proved without doubt that they were like a dog with a bone. No evidence but let’s beat it up. As for Black Caviar, despite the lack of opposition breaking the track record which stood for 27 years and really just ridden hands and heels to the line proved her greatness. Moody threw the media a bone yesterday saying the Newmarket Hcp was not out of the question. Surely the handicapper has to give her at least 61kg. But, the William Reid G1 at Moonee Valley looks a much better option which she will start $1.03.

She ran in a unofficial ”jumpout” at Sandown in Melbourne on Tuesday. See it on the link. No audio and she is in the red jacket.

His Derby, Irish Derby and King George wins with Alan Munro in the saddle were outstanding. Remember him with great affection and those Dark Green silks of his owner Fahd Salman. Suave Dancer who was runner up to him in the Irish Derby got his revenge in the Arc. If you can find a youtube clip of his Irish Derby win it’s well worth a look. Shuttled to Japan and NZ as a sire but sired on 15 Group winners.

Really folks, let’s be honest about it. Comparing horses with ratings is an exercise in futility. Timeform ratings has Tudor Minstrel on 144. We have hardly no video footage of Tudor Minstrel let alone still shots. On 142 is Abernant and Windy City, two horses you would be lucky to see a page on the Net. Of Course on the same mark is Ribot, a champion, who has been well documented. All I am saying is as the years go by and new generations of racegoers come on the scene opinions can become a touch clouded. I think that Dancing Brave was a very, very good horse. I don’t think he was a champion though. His Arc win was outstanding. His King George win was super. Sea Bird’s assessment was really only based on two runs. The Derby and Arc. Brigadier Gerard. Beaten once in his life (by Roberto) and in my opinion deserved the same rating as Sea Bird who was also beaten once in his career. As to the quality of opposition that these horses beat can be left to debate at the local pub.

Fair to say that Crowned Prince silks were also halved sleeves judging by the photo you posted? My take on it is Black, Yellow hoops, halved sleeves, yellow cap, black spots?
