50 horses better than shaftsebury avenue? Name them.
I will give you he was sometimes enigmatic, but he was a bloody good horse when everything was going right. In my opinion better than both Starcraft and Haradasun who both won group 1’s at Ascot.
March 4, 2012 at 10:33 #394778Jollyp, Shaftesbury Avenue wasn’t a squib. Ran 2nd in a Japan Cup, he also won the G1 George Main Stakes (1990), Emirates Stakes (1990), Lightning Stakes (1991), Newmarket Handicap (1991), All-Aged Stakes (1990), Caulfield Stakes (1991). In regards to Kingston Town, won 30 from 40 starts. At his best no horse in the world would have beaten him but ran on three legs for most of his career. His win in the BMW (Tancred Stakes) at a mile and a half at 3YO was just unbelievable.
March 10, 2012 at 05:56 #395651Hay List just got there in the Newmarket Handicap giving weight away. Good performance, but I think there may be some questions on whether or not he can definitively be called the world’s second best. The jockey did take a hold of him early and Hay List resented it a bit which lost him a length or so and maybe sapped a bit of energy from him.
2nd horse Buffering run over just before the wire. I actually hold him in higher regard than most; always been overlooked. Twice well-beaten by Sepoy last term, but he had to give weight away and didn’t always get the ideal run.
The "record-breaking" weight carried by Hay List is quite a bit of hyperbole; more a statement about how conservative the trainers are than a mind-bending task. Horses in other jurisdictions carry more weight to win relatively frequently.

Absolulely no Hyperbole Presto, this is the Newmarket, the best 1200m sprint in the world.Horses may carry more weight in other jurisdictions, but the are not meeting the class of a Newmarket when it comes to sprints and being a handicap it takes a great horse to win a Newmarket with 58kg or more.
March 23, 2012 at 12:07 #398139Foxwedge just did Hay List by three-quarters of a length. Pre-race his trainer intimated that the horse was too fresh for the Newmarket, and used himself too much early when unable to find cover.
But he had a huge weight swing that day as well. Back to weight-for-age terms today Foxwedge stalked Hay List & Buffering and beat them both. Hay List had an abscess on his foot earlier in the week so maybe we’ll find out more. Strange one. - AuthorPosts
