Well so far, the best performance has been put up by Gosden who once again got an owner to swerve the race with a horse that was a realistic danger. :good:

Another case of aftertiming from me. Having failed to ever back the winner of any derby (or oaks) anywhere at any time, I have two Derbys in two days.

Victor Ludurom would never beat Gosdens horse no matter what. I think he is the best 3 year old Iv seen this year. His performance in Riyadh as a novice early this year was wonderful really. He looks very tough. I wonder if he might stay 1mile 4?

I don’t think the result is a fluke though. Sure, he got a freeby. However, I think time will show this horse is proper group 1. He was powerfully eye-catching last week against exposed but useful horses.

He would have been much shorter if he hadn’t run a week ago which looked liked a crazy prep race.

Also, I wouldn’t blame the chasers. They were outsiders and why should they make themselves sacrificial lambs for those behind them. They probably got the best positions possible.

Delighted to see Marquands horse run well.

Had Serpentine along with a battery of others. Those who left him off though clearly were not watching the curragh last week. He had serious form.

Love has it in the book. Im going against Gosdens. Maybe something like Royal Wand can improve to challenge.

Mogul is now a backable price. If he has progressed the way we are hearing, I now think he might win. Vatican City is puzzingly long priced. Not guaranteed to stay, but the family suggests he might.

    Very open race though.

I hope English King doesn’t win, purely because I don’t like to see a jocking off rewarded.

A cross between General Franco and PT Barnum.

Often ignored by the adults in the room.

What we know now is that the quicker you lock down, the more effective it is. The UK went a week too late and had a lot of mixed messages. It was without the doubt the worst handling we have seen and did little for the reputation of Whitty and Valens (most scientists don’t believe they were behind the main decisions).

How one feels about lock downs and the curbing of freedoms VS risk and fatality rates is a separate argument. Sweden made its decision and was willing to pay the price for that. Easy to be brave though when its other peoples neck on the line.

All very well… However, this really only blew up when cheltenham was on. There was no government advisory telling people not to travel. We depend on our government to cut through the confusion and give us the best advice.

I get what your saying. Diet is also that which kills most of us. But there is also the way we die that is the state of emergency. We can convince ourselves that even though we smoke or over eat, that we wont get cancer.

When these kind of events happen though, death and suffering is more acute and in our face. Our normal lives are disrupted by it simultaneously. That said, you can probably get use to anything. The war and the spanish flu made death became a part of life and we just kept going through the unpleasantness probably with less commentary than we have today.

Being outside is one of the healthiest things you can do. Draconian rules about staying at home are certainly more about controlling a population than a disease. Most of the local cafes here are open but with restricted seating etc. Pubs have been shut though now.

Bit strange to keep your schools open though. Little people are the worst spreaders of everything.

The country is not being asked to go into a permanent and full lock down. That’s obvious. It’s about managing the situation.

Boris Johnsons response had initially seemed a bit psychotic though.

The simple fact is we don’t want another Italy where the doctors are making decisions to just let certain people die.

My wife is in her 40s and is immuno compromised. I have a mate with Cancer and and my parents are pretty old. When you overwhelm a health service, more people die from lots of things and they are all in the firing line.

The current fatality rate in Italy is somewhere closer to 5%…which is alot of people.

Of course we can’t hide away all the time from every disease. This is new and we are trying to buy time until we decide on a new norm.

Who knows, it might mutate and dissappear soon. But that still won’t make a lock down the wrong decision

The lock down is needed to slow down or flatten the curve.

It allows the vunerable to better protect themselves and the medical resources to be better prepared and utilised. Without that, quite a lot more people will die needlessly.

The rating seems generous. Fascinating race though. Hard to work out what the principles have achieved in slaming opposition
