See the Sun – York 3.30Question for the historians. Has a horse even won the Coventry on debut ?
I have a friend of a friend who is linked to Margeson yard as a former owner. Apparently, his horse Any Guest who is yet to run is meant to be extremely useful.
Margeson has told him to back it each way for 2016 Guineas and is comfortably the best horse he has had.
Highly unlikely it can win this on debut, but this horse is the apple of his eye by all accounts.
Thought I would bump this up as this horse finally makes its debut today in the 3.20 at Ascot.
It has been entered about 4/5 times since the Coventry and pulled out on each occasion. Clearly the trainer is taking his time with this fella.
He opened up at 20s last night
now down to 8/1.Margeson is adamant this horse is the best he has had.

3.45 Newcastle – Angel GabrialNot sure you can blame Doyle for Always Smile, the horse clearly has a quirky edge and drifted last time out. Horse lost the race , not the jockey.
Trainer is the one who has to iron these quirks out. If Bin Suroor said don’t use the whip , then fair enough , Doyle is at fault.
I think it’s safe to say these were not his instructions though.
I didn’t think it was too bad to be honest. I mostly watched RUK’s coverage as its aimed at racing followers more, but I did flick over and watch chunks of C4 coverage and found it to be decent enough.
I think it’s very easy to be critical of it, almost fashionable to criticise it.
It serves it’s purpose and brings the racing world into the mainstream without getting to specialist. Let’s be honest, if you want a more specialist coverage of racing for these big festivals, then RUK is required.
Same as above really. Sir Isaace Newton was unlucky and is improving all the time. The Corsican showed that he is also improving rapidly and looks well up to contesting major group races.
I would throw Provance in too, only second attempt at 10f and ran well held up off the pace, despite getting worked up before hand.
I thought Soumillion was very classy on Ervedya. He timed that to absolute perfection to beat two very good fillies who both ran very well and up to their form.
Something that was maybe missed throughout the week as Ryan Moore deservedly got most of the riding attention, but James Doyle produced some fantastic rides , mostly in defeat. Thought he was excellent on Entertainment, Temptress and Mr Singh.

5.35 Risen Sun , Tazfinn (Rive Gauche)Normally you want a horse who stays a mile very well and arguably is suited by a bit further as it’s such a strong run race.
After reviewing the draw, I’m struggling to find an obvious pace angle this year. Most of the strongly fancied horses tend to come off the pace and are drawn low to middle.
I really fancy Ayaar but stall one and no obvious pace has dented a bit of confidence.
Of the more fancied horse, GM Hopkins is the one who stands out as having raced just off the pace in the past. I just feel he is a better horse with a bit of cut in the ground.
Maybe I’m over thinking things, but it’s becoming a bit more of a puzzle after the draw.

5.35 Steady Pace and Opal TiaraI have had a few quid EW on Eltezam. I was quite taken with its debut in what looked a decent race, whilst it was only workmanlike for its win last time out, the horse never really hits its stride until last half a furlong and won with a bit in hand imo.
i think 16/1 looks a very fair price for what the horse has achieved so far.
