I like Sword Fighter for this as well, he seems decent staying type, much more so in my opinion than Idaho who’s currently a third of the price.

That said I’ve also picked out a couple of long shots, they’re big prices for a reason right now but I don’t mind a bit of speculation and if they don’t improve enough then so be it.

Corinthian needs to learn how to settle as he’s run pretty green in his two races to date, but I think he might turn out to be pretty good if/when he does.

Crimean Tatar actually hasn’t even raced yet as he was injured last year, so it probably seems crazy to pick him. He makes his debut tomorrow and I have a really good feeling about him. But, I’ve been wrong before.

If anyone hasn’t seen the race yet Steve posted a link to view it in the Classic races in France thread.

This is the replay for anyone who never caught the race live:-

It seems to have been a bit of a rough race with a few other horses getting bumped around so perhaps Buick felt upset at being the only one to pick up a ban. That said, none of the other incidents led to a fall.

Well I was on all the other Sea The Stars colts bar the winner! I guess he does handle the track and what a way to find out.

I’ve gone with Across The Stars – hoping he can improve a lot from his (IMO unlucky) run at Lingfield – and Cloth Of Stars who wouldn’t have been supplemented for no reason. Both each way as I don’t really have a clue what will win.

Cheers BigG, don’t think I got around to posting on here but I liked the way she went at Breakfast with the Stars and hoped it might count for something.

Glad to hear that Diamonds Pour Moi is thought to be OK too.

Congratulations to those who kept the faith with Minding. I took a small chance on Architecture each way so not too disappointed with that result either.

The worst example of a name being allowed is surely Percy’s Lass. She is by Sir Percy, whose dam was also called Percy’s Lass!!

On that note, I had to blink a bit when I saw a report about Tanino Urban Sea, who’s by Sea The Stars, whose dam was… Urban Sea. This filly is running in Japan though so not sure if it counts as a “what were they thinking” moment.

Harzand was outpaced early on in the Ballysax. I thought he did pretty well to get back in contention in the later stages, but who knows how it would have played out on better ground. And it didn’t sound as though they thought he’d be suited by Epsom at all – which would concern me more if I were thinking of backing him.

Maybe they’re wishing they’d gone down the French route given the conditions over there!

Oh and the RP write up has Aidan saying her sinus burst too. Poor old Minding.

Now we have Pivotol as a potential Derby sire, he has already sired stayers and Wings of Love has already proved he can stay 12 furlongs.I always did understand it was more the female line that created the stamina. All very interesting.

Well, Pivotal has already sired an Oaks winner, so it’s not unthinkable that he could add a Derby to the tally, but (perhaps an important factor?) she was from the same female family as Wings of Desire. Given that his dam Gull Wing and granddam Maycocks Bay both won over 14f, I think it’s safe to say there was already plenty of stamina in the mix. Going back a bit further, this is the same female line as Irish St Leger winner Mountain Lodge and the highly influential Selene.

Somehow I don’t think they would have bothered with the test if they really wanted to run him. If anything they seemed relieved it came out as it did, as though it would’ve committed them to a plan they didn’t want.

I see this is in today’s Racing Post with a series of photos for good measure. The jockey says the horse got in close and he lost the reins, which doesn’t entirely explain the acrobatic pose but it would be fair to say he had little chance of recovery at that point no matter how well the horse landed. I think as an amateur he should probably be cut a bit of slack but can understand why the owners weren’t happy.

Yeah, would have expected him to be facing the other way really! Very lucky that none of the horses were injured and also that he wasn’t leaning on the rail enough to lose his balance as it went.
